  who has been out the longest?

  who has been out of the cult the longest ?.

  i'll start--i resigned in 1971, but attended occasionally as a non-interested husband to keep the wife sweet, untill my last circuit assembly in autumn 1980. no connection with the cult since then.

  so--its either 47 or 38 years, depending on how you see it.. which begs the question--why am i on this site now ?.

  What really happened around 1918 when WT leaders were imprisoned?

  i had never thought about this until just now when i saw that nathan natas posted some early tract from rutherford, and it made me think back to what little i could remember of the history i was taught.

  i now know that in most cases the dubs will spin stories in their favor.

  so i'm now assuming i was told some fictitious story about what happened when the leaders were thrown in prison and things looked bleak for the cult way back when.

  Td, i certainly dont mean to imply that witnesses were singled out or in anyway persecuted by satans world ;) but it was nonsense. As terry points out, he cant identify specifically why prosecution was dropped... i can. Its easy. They knew they wouldnt win minus wartime feelings. The charges were a huge reach.

  Td, in fairness, the charges were dropped because without the wartime fervor, the case wouldnt have been won. Its not technically an exoneration but it was defacto one.

  The judge in that case was obviously biased. The sentances were extreme to say the least and they were damn near outright railroaded. I hate the org and Rutherford specifically was an ass who deserved prison for his abuses as head of the org, but that particular case was a travesty.

  i remember when that came out, my mother didn't catch it in the original article in the wt.

  it was in one of the review "do you remember" thingies that she caught it.

  she asked me if it means what she thought it meant.

  @lemming- its interesting, otwo has remarked in the past that the 1995 generation change was the one that shook him. I was around for that but i was just back from bethel and on the verge of getting married... life was moving at a fast pace and i really didnt pay a whole lot of attention i suppose. I really think its a matter of being mentally ready to see the truth.

  the woman has been deflecting the orange one's lies for quite sometime now as we all know, but after hearing her doing the same about the staff member who dissed mccain, i say she's an excellent candidate for the governing body, "nothing ever happened, we didn't say that, yes the number of 144,000 is growing every year and we accept that".

  i mean, why look elsewhere, she would fit in perfectly.. btw, that's also what i say with all the drumpf supporters that show up at his rallies he holds whenever his sensitive, deflated ego needs a boost.

  they cheer and rave just like the blind followers do at the circuit assemblies, they would make excellent jws, they have no problem buying into bullshit without putting any thought into anything that's being said..

  Im sorry shirely, i really dont follow, at least not a 100%. You said something about people mindlessly cheering for their leader and instantly obamas inaugurations came to mind as an example. I remember seeing him when he made some grandiose remark about his election being the moment when the rise of the oceans stopped and people lost their minds... all i could do was look around and shake my head at the seals clapping at what they did not know. You and i seemed to be on the same page... maybe i misunderstood.

  a few years ago i attended the kingdom hall during "easter" as my mother in law asked me to come to a service.

  i was hesitant at first, being a christian and a believer in jesus, she told me that jw believe in jesus and to come see for myself.

  i finally agreed to go.
