  Is Watchtower's position on smoking consistent with its position on masturbation?

  watchtower considers masturbation to be a form of uncleanness but not a disfellowshipping offence because the bible says nothing about masturbation.

  a jw who masturbates is likely to face no more than losing privileges in the congregation.. like masturbation, smoking is considered by jws to be a form of uncleannes and like masturbation, the bible says nothing about it.

  but a jw who smokes faces disfellowshipping.. yes, smoking is known to be deleterious to a person's health whereas the jury is still out on the adverse health effects of masturbation.

  2014 increase in Memorial Partakers to 14,121

  i have updated the article at memorial partakers with the figures released for 2014. no surprises here, it has risen yet again, this time by 6% over last year, and is now 14,121.. .

  To make the calcul, we have to make some guess :

  1) Let's begin to count in 1935. The datas from the year before are not really consistent for a model.

  2) Let's say that the youngest of the 52 000 partakers of 1935 was 30 years old and the oldest was 100 years old and that the age distribution follow a classic symetric regular normal distribution.

  3) Let's say the life expectancy of a annointed is 80 years.

  We build an approximative model, who can follow and be adjusted every year with the people lacking or the people added.

  The first thing to notice easily, with this model all the partakers from 1935 are dead now. Then the number of taotal partakers is more than 52 000.

  Now we have to ajust the model years after years. I won't explain all the calculs here, they are very boring, I will make an article more precise soon. But let make us a fast idea

  on the 52 000 partakers in 1935, according to our normal law:2 000 was less than 40 years old, 34 000 was more than 60 years old, and in those 9 000 was more than 80 years old.

  Then, if the annointed never died, on these 52 000 partakers, only 2 000 was less than 80 years old in 1975.

  But they die like another people : With the life expectancy chosen at 80 years, it means than in 1975, it was only 2 000 partakers alive who was partakers in 1935. 1 000  of those was between 70 and 80 years old, 1 000 of those was more than 80 years old. And then in 1975 the nomber of anointed already dead was 50 000

  Let's ajust with the number of 1975. the number of partakers was around 10 500. It means it was 8 500 new partakers who wasn't partakers in 1935.

  Let's assume the distribution was the same than in 1935 for these 8 500 new people. It means : 

  on the 10 500 partakers in 1975 :300 was less than 40 years old, 7 500 was more than 60 years old, and in those 2 500 was more than 80 years old.

  Then, if the annointed never died, on these 10 500 partakers of 1975, only 300 was less than 80 years old in 2014.
  

  But they die like another people : With the life expectancy chosen at 80 years, it means than in 2014, it was only 300 partakers alive who was partakers in 1975. 150  of those was between 70 and 80 years old, 150 of those was more than 80 years old. And then in 2014 the nomber of anointed dead since 1975 was 10 000

  And then the nomber of anointed dead only between 1935 and 2014 was around 60 000!!!

  In 2014, 14 121 partakers, then in those around 14 000 wasn't partakers in 1975.

  We have then since 1935 : 74 000 different partakers.

  
  And in this fast calcul we don't count :

  1) the partakers who enter and die between 1935 and 1975 ( around 5 000)

  2) the partakers who enter and die between 1975 and 2014 (around 1 000)

  3) the partakers who enter and die before 1935. (I don't have a clue : let's say 20 000)

  What would be fascinating if some one wanted to do the research (if it was even possible)   I want to know how many cumulative unique people have partaken over the years.   The over/under would be 144K.     Do think the real number is higher or lower?

  Of course nobody can have the exact information to count exactly every individual. But there are enough datas to approximate it very great with some basic actuarial statistics. I will try to make that.

  OneEyedJoe : Thanks for the answer! I think the charts show two things then :

  1) Some have jumped on this occasion, that's why it increase so much.

  2) The majority continue to note a study, when it's really a formal biblical study with regular one hour study sessions... if not, the number of studies will be 30 times higher...

  yes- everyone has faults and makes mistakes; an organization even more so.. yet, you ignore all the fingers pointing at you.. many here have no faith.

  many here go to churches who lie about everything biblical; look at x-mas!.

  but at least we know god and christ and try to live up to their name!.

  after the general small talk of new cars, exotic vacations and sports we often get into the "why" we are xjubs.

  Many wedding customs have pagan origins from what I understand.

  Yes, let me tell you a funny story :

  It was two young people, very sympatics, french JW's, who wanted to avoid all the pagans thing in the wedding ceremony.

  That's why, they choose to not go at the catholic roman church, pagan place and false religion building. They asked too to the guest to not throw the traditionnal handful of rice .

  Everything went fine. The bride was very pretty under the white veil and the beribonned bouquet of flower she had in hands was sumptuous. And the bridesmaids was very pretty too.

  After they said "Yes", they put tenderly the wedding ring at the left ring finger. The day after they jump in a plane for a great honeymoon.

  Arrived at the hotel, the young husband, very courteous, take his new wife in the arms to enter in the honeymoon suite, where they do what they had to do (it's no more our concern)!

  It sounds very classical, isn'it ?

  
  But they forgot some détails :

  1) The veil : It was, even before the wedding dress was used, designed to mask the face of the bride to the evil spirits, meant to be attrcted by the happiness of the other people

  2) The bouquet : this bouquet is meant to guarantee the marital ecstasy, because the flowers are a symbol of love and fecondity.
  

  3) The ribbon : the ribbon of the bouquet are meant to be a luck symbol.
  

  4) The bridesmaids : They are here to protect the bride from the demons and other surnatural power beast and to empeach his kidnapping.
  

  5) The ring at the left ring finger : It comes from an ancient greek believing, who states that a blood vein, called the "vein of love" comes from this finger to the heart.
  

  6) The honeymoon : It comes from the time of weddings by rapt. The guy was taking the wife very far from her family until the parents cancel the research. And in the same time it was useful to escape from all the evil spirits who wanted to destruct the happiness of the new couple.
  

  7) To carry the wife to enter the honeymoon suite : it's a tradition meant to thwart the misfortune. It empeachs the bride to stumble and to war off bad luck

  Gun control doesn't keep the bad guys from getting guns

  I didn't notice that the free gun policy on the USA keep them from getting them anyway.

  I brought up Switzerland because many here suggest simple gun ownership leads to violence.   Switzerland proves that that is not the case.  As a matter of fact assault weapons and automatic weapons are probably more available there than they are in the states.   Switzerland proves that the problem is culture NOT gun ownership.

  Nothing to see. In switzerland they have one of the more strong social policies in the world. That's the deal. There's almost no poor.

  If you want to decrease singnificantly the criminality, increase all the social policies in USA.... Nobody  will need gun no more ..

  In france, we made a lot of statistical studies and you can check, the increase of criminilaty is totally correlated at the decrease of social policies.

  If you want to fight criminality, fight poverty first.. the rest is unuseful!
