Tax-exempt Status of Churches and the Gay Marriage Decision
by lambsbottom init will be interesting to see what will happen with the "beloved" 501c3 tax exempt status which the churches hold so dearly onto.
the first-century christians met in homes.
they did not have exemption from taxes to the governments.

You guys really think they would give a talk in a kingdom hall for a gay couple. I don't know what kh you were going to but here in liberal california that would not fly. I know many a jw that would walk right out the door with that one. -

I believe this will be a big hit to most religious organizations. Especially fundamentalists.
What I wonder is which ones will wheather this storm. I believe JW's are certainly in trouble since they do no good for society at large and are extremely bigoted. Will they move their headquarters overseas. Launder their money through their recent land grab. The Catholic church will get through this since they have their own "country". Though they will be seriously bruised along the way. What about all the ones in between?
Thoughts.

The Bible is NOT Error-Free
by FusionTheism infor many christians, the bible is viewed as the 100% error-free, perfect book straight from god, where every single word was carefully chosen by god for a reason.
but, usually, when you have a discussion on the topic, these christians will end up saying that only the original copies written directly from the hands of the prophets and apostles were error-free, and all manuscript copies since then are subject to copyist mistakes and other errors.. since zero original copies are in existence, how do we know the originals were error-free?
why should we think the originals should be error-free to begin with?

Burden of proof is always on the one making the positive claim. It's not the responsibility of anyone to prove Santa Clause or the tooth fairy exist. Mankind would spend their entire existence on wild goose chases.

There is no reasoning with morons. Fisherman is one. He goes round and round no matter how sound the other argument is. It's like having a conversation with a child that keeps stating no it's not even when they know it is because they just can't handle being wrong.

You have to prove its inspiration. Claiming such does not make it so. -

FT - Truth trumps all. Love and kindness are the works of our social empathy which is truth and demonstrable. From what I have been studying since I left the jw cult I've found the study and application of ethics to be a better guide to morals than the bible by far. I agree with you that there are some good things in the bible.
You appear to be holding on to the notion that belief in god is necessary for morality. That was an area I struggled with initially as well. So I took my research in that direction. Have you, listened to the YouTube channel Evid3nc3, dawkins god delusion or anything about morality without God?
If you haven't, ask yourself why not? Could it be that you are worried that once you do, you know subconsciously what the outcome will be. If so how is that any different from jw's refusing to research their doubts about watchtower. Much is at stake. Once I left I refused to be anyone's slave again. Truth trumps all. I believe in research, research, research, and will never just take someone else's word for it again.

Why are JWs so against debate
by enigma1863 inif the jws follow proverbs 27:17 they should not be afraid of any tension or friction.. in order for iron to sharpen iron you need pressure, tension friction and a bit of heated debate..

Thank you for asking. He is doing well. We have his quarterly spinal chemo treatment on Monday which is always challenging. We do our best to make it a special day for him. Favorite movies, usually Star Wars, Steak, Mac & Cheese, new present, and so on. He only has 4 more of these and then he will hopefully be good to go. We are so looking forward to February 2016 when his treatment is done. Then Make-A-Wish trip for my kids hopefully a Disney Cruise.
