I remember how I used to feel about people protesting outside conventions. I looked down on them. Now I feel sorry for them. What was done to them by this cult to make them act this way. These people need our kindness. They sure as hell won't get it any where else. -

Brave New W0rld of Education - The Regressive Left
by cofty ini found this to be a thought-provoking film on the trend in higher education.. oubliette drew my attention to a brilliant article recently called "the coddling of the american mind".

I was born dyslexic as well. They wanted to hold me back in kindergarten. My dad refused and sent me to one of those private jw schools. When I came out I was thoroughly brain washed, but my reading skills were 2 years above my grade level.
My son struggles with his reading and writing due to the chemo he is on. I would be appalled and fight any program to lower standards. We have applied for presonal aid which he will be receiving next year and I'm confident he will catch up and surpass his classmates within a year.

REFUSING a blood transfusion because of the fear of being shunned. Any experiences?
by EdenOne ini was wondering if someone here has a personal story, or witnessed one in first hand, when someone refused to take a blood transfusion and what role the threat of disfellowshipment and shunning played in it (versus a more genuine fear of displeasing jehovah).
.
if you do, i would like to know about it.. eden.

I've been thinking of setting up a seminar for the hospital my son is going to that helps doctors and staff know how to potentially help jw parents. Something to counter act hlc. Maybe with some trial and error it could be used at other hospitals nation wide.
I got this idea from Marc and Cora.

I almost lost my son. My wife and I were all in true believers. Thankfully the law stepped in. Leukemia
We also have friends that we tried to warn months ago when we first woke up who did the same thing at the same hospital. They just got out of the icu and will be in the hospital for at least another month. I believe one of the parents may have refused blood due to shunning knowing the law would step in. Not realizing what that meant with social workers visits. I can provide more info later if you like.

Good books to read?
by thedepressedsoul ini read crisis on the conscience and i am about to start, "who wrote the bible?
does anyone have a list or great books to read for anyone searching for the real truth?
i've only ever seen the world through a jw lens and i am excited to see what other view points are out there!

I would not voluntarily vote for Carson or Chomsky. If you put a gun to my head and I had to choose or get my head blown off I'd vote for Carson to. Chomsky would let millions of Americans die and claim we deserved it for our past atrocities. -

To claim that jws are empiricists is utterly ridiculous. That tells me you don't know what empiricism is. Falsifiable evidence.
You quote Nietsche. A premier example of regressive liberalism. The man who equates the accidental killing of innocents with intentional killing of them. If the world listened to that idiot we would be living in an apocalyptic world or one ruled by caliphate.

Panpsychism more interesting than a 800 page book on how the murder rate is down. I can't imagine what type of grades you received on your book reports. Your summary is atrocious.
I know plenty of young adults that prefer reading comic books and mythology as well. Panpsycism strikes me as in the same family as comic books. I would not be voicing this had it not been for your original slam on the authors made by you.
Just make your recommendation and let it be. What a prick.
Are you gonna run away now or do you need some more from several others here. I cant stand arrogant pricks like you. Come on a forum like this and spew their bs and turn and run when it gets to hot.

You don't have to be an a**hole about it. When you are burned as many ex fill in the blank belivers have been by belief without evidence that is the natural place to go.
I require empirical evidence in order to believe. I believe everyone should do the same. To do otherwise in my opinion leads back to the same place we all started at. In a cult that claims to have revealed truth. What makes belief without evidence in any of the found or revealed truths any different than the other. Nothing. Just some man's opinion.
I for one will not waste another moment of my life in that again. I almost lost to much the first time and I'll be dammed if I do it again.

Slimboyfat the OP asked for book recommendations. You came on here slamming recommendations made by others and then made your own. That is an a**hole move. If that's what your about I have no inretest in your recommendations and doubt others will either.
And here I thought it was a good thing you were back. If this is how you comport yourself I wonder if it might be better for you to run off in another tantrum.
Now can we get back to the book recommendations?
