Kate I'm sure most jihadis have families. Kiss there kids at night, tuck them in, read to them. Enjoy meals with friends and family. Want what they believe is best for those they care about.
Some Muslims believe jihad is an inner struggle. I respect jihadis to much as people to respect their beliefs. A belief system and an individual are 2 different things. There are varying belief systems and they all have consequences. Some of them more severe than others and deserving a response in kind.

i started this topic because i had been thinking recently about a story that i had heard many times in different congregations over the years.
kind of a jw urban legend if you will.
Not when my wife was hit as a teenager by a drunk driver going 60 to 65 mph. Her body not her car that left her permanently disabled. Or when she ended up in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit when our son was a year old to be told she has a chronic condition called perarcarditis (inflammation of the sac surrounding the heart) that gets worse with age. Or when my beautiful 5 year old boy was diagnosed with leukemia. I can go on but why.
Mikey the point im trying to get at is how ridiculous it is of those who think beliefs should be respected just because someone holds them. What one believes matters. It affects actions, and actions affect me and those I care about. No belief should be held sacred and be beyond criticism. People and beliefs are not the same thing
One of my favorite quotes is "I respect you to much as a person to respect your beliefs. "
Kate you are one of the reasons I started these threads. To hopefully get through some of the thick headedness on display here regarding some people's inability to separate beliefs from people.

Outlaw I didn't say you were good with that. I am talking about respecting their beliefs. 2 separate things.
I'm trying to illustrate how ridiculous it is to state that beliefs of any kind merit respect. This example is the extreme result of such a stance. I'm not saying every belief is the same just that knocking people that challenge someone elses belief system is dangerous and needs to be called out as such.
Outlaw so I guess your ok with people that believe we should respect the beliefs of jihadi extremists. There are many out there and it is unfortunately part of our popular culture to just say meh.
Atheist extremists kill with words while religious extremists kill with steel. 2 sides of the same coin I guess. So yes I agree to disagree.
If you don't get it you don't get it. It's not about dumping on people with faith. It's about dumping on people that decry challenging beliefs. Many of these people are atheists.
I'm trying to progressively illustrate the ridiculousness of that stance. People that are non believers complaining about it doesn't help drive home the point. There are more people viewing this site than posting on it. I know, I have windows of time where I can post with a young family and all.

No I'm not trying to stir controversy. I'm trying to drive home a point about how ridiculous the statements are that a belief or any belief system deserves respect. Sorry if reality is to difficult for people to deal with. This is the world we live in and beliefs have real world consequences.
I for one am getting sick of the continuous lecturing that continues to come from too many here how we need to be respectful of others beliefs. People don't like it, so be it.
