I'm open. When traveling I usually like local favorites/specialities. As long as they serve beer and scotch I'm good. I'm really looking forward to it.

New movie by Mel Gibson 'Hacksaw ridge'
by barry ini just went to a pre screening of this movie about an adventist guy who didn't want to kill but joined the army as a medic on the front line.
desmond doss saved 75 men in one operation singlehanded on the island of okinawa where desmond worked lowering men down a 400ft cliff to safety.. i thought this may be of interest to jws because of the pacifist stand they also have.. the movie comes out on the 4 th november..

Schnell I agree with you. Simon I differ with you on this one. The reason he had the stand he did was due to his cult indoctrination. I admire anyone who puts there life at risk to save others. Soldiers, emergency responders and the like.
A soldier who refuses to carry a weapon is not admirable.

I am personally getting tired of the adulation poured upon pacifists as though they stand on a higher moral ground. It is immature at least and deadly at its worst.
SDA is a cult and it should come as no surprise to anyone who has escaped one that this man acted the way he did. Cults have an amazing ability to get people to do crazy things.
Saving people's lives is admirable. His stance as a soldier unwilling to carry a gun because of his crazy belief system is not.
All diplomatic options should be fully exhausted before any type of force is considered. However believing and practicing that force is never acceptable is fool hardy.

Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR)
by Simon ini stumbled across something the other day that made me sit up because it seemed to perfectly describe a feeling i experience from time to time that apparently isn't uncommon.. it's called autonomous sensory meridian response or "asmr" and is a kind of tingly feeling on/in your head.

I've had this experience from time to time since my teens early 20's. When I first noticed it I went to the doctor and they had no idea what it was. It used to freak me out.
Sleep paralysis used to do the same thing to me. I never thought it was anything other than physiological. When I finally understood what it was I felt much better.

How can anyone who is truly spiritual-minded attend Bethel and not realize it's all a scam
by sosoconfused innot that i was any better(lol - but as i sat back and thought about the time i spent there, and the things i saw i feel disgusted.. i could literally write a thousand stories about the discrimination, favortism and all out dishonest that took place but i doubt anyone would actually care.
the one thing however that really sticks out in my mind is when i was in a nice room with my roommate that he kind of inherited after his previous roommate left.
it actually had a bathroom and we both had space for real beds(not those dang trundle beds like we had in standish).. .

At A Loss

she had it removed around 1am friday morning.

Again thank you all for your loving and kind words. She was released Friday and home recovering. Having family now would be not only helpful but really needed.
I think back to when I was in and reflect on the extremely limited assistance I received from them. With the exception of my Mom. Who has challenges of her own as a single woman in her 70's. I only ask for her help when I have no other choices. The rest of the family is too busy with their crapcratic duties. Most of my family came by one or twice in the 3 years that my son was going through treatment. They all live within driving distance in southern California.
When my wife was in the hospital this week her sister came by a couple of times. Her sister doesn't know we're out. I was trying to arrange to drop her off at home on a Tuesday due to her having car troubles. Since my office is over an hour from the hospital and I would get back to the hospital around 6 she tells me she can't miss her meeting. This was when my wife her sister had fluid building up in her lungs and was in constant pain. I looked at her and said "you see your sister there in a hospital bed and your worried about making your meeting, really." She didn't go that day. So my wife was alone all day.
I wanted to say so much more. I hate this dann cult.

because it was aimed at young people and it said something along the lines, "if you believe in god you have a purpose, but if you don't believe in god your life has no purpose or meaning".
i think that is a faulty analysis of the situation.

John Man I don't need a totalitarian dictator in the sky telling me how I should act. In fact the most effective method I have found with my children is the principle of empathy. Not hard. No god needed. It also has a clear evolutionary explanation unrelated to Cofty. If he is your reference point you really haven't done your research.
Look to see how many people have died of AIDS in Africa due to the Catholic position. It's disgusting. But it fits within the narrative of the cult of human sacrifice that all theists believe in. Truly disgusting.

John Mann life is more meaningful and precious now that I'm almost certain there is no afterlife. Are you catholic? You went from a modern day abusive cult to one of the originals that is responsible for hundreds of thousands of child abuse victims and millions dying too young in Africa due to the condom use ban.
See this is what a theist morality gets you. A human sacrifice cult that thinks it's merciful that a billion people go to purgatory just because they were born on the wrong continent. And you theists wonder why you are derided here and ever more so in the public square.
