So, the Womens March ... What Is It For?
by Simon init seems like mobilizing after the election, which seems pointless.
i keep hearing demands for equal rights but don't understand what rights they are missing exactly.. normally a march is to show the support (and potential votes) for a cause, but ... votes for what?
... and the election happened already.. is anyone else confused?

I have no problem calling a spade a spade like radical Islamic terrorism. Politics is not a zero sum game. There is much nuance and gray areas. People that see and try to pidgeon hole large swaths of people into a black and white group scare me. I have no doubt that the majority of the people that went to this march have the noblest of intents. I do not believe it is appropriate to insult them with the minority that are highlighted.
Opposition forces must stand up against the other side, and will as it is how the world turns. I like how Haidt speaks to the discord we are seeing as a western religiously initiated manacheistic thinking. Us vs. Them. Rather then the more natural way of the world which is more daoist.

Simon as I've said before this is not a zero sum endeavor. I agree there are serious problems on the left. That doesn't negate the merit of this march. I have also not compared trump to Hitler. Some have and their wrong at this point. To say he is no worse then Reagan is hyperbole as well. Again their has not been a President as dangerous as trump is in the last 100 years if not the entire history of the U.S.
When the center left condemns a large portion of their own as loons they are pushed directly into to extremist hands. That is what I'm worried about with these types of general condemnations.

Nope not all you Simon. I think I listen to and read many of the same things you do, and agree and disagree with some of the things said.
One of the things I disagree with most vehemently is the smug attitude of too many of these intellectuals toward the average citizen participating in events like this one.
This is one of the many things pushing those in the center to the extremes.

Bohm aptly described how you are making a false equivalency.

False equivalencies, Quoting Larry Elder and referring to the left as socialist. I think we have a conservative Republican in the making.

Simon you are applying a false equivalency. Using your logic do you have any right to complain about regressives, when most people in the middle East can't say anything negative about their government.

Bohm because different rules are being applied to women then those with legitimate concerns about regressives. I'm astonished by the lack of consistency. By the logic being expressed by Simon no one should be complaining about there situation since someone else has it worse.
