Quality Thinking - Warning: Long Post Ahead

recently, several threads have had some debate about logic, evidence, critical thinking and skepticism.

i wanted to write a post discussing those things, hopefully to clarify what those things are, why they are important and how to use those tools.

first, logic, at its core, is simply a method for how to reason validly, how to draw conclusions based on a premise.

Royal Commission and blood transfusion refusal for children?

i wonder if the royal commission has examined the practice of jws being led to refuse blood transfusion for children when medically necessary to save life or preserve health in relation to the question of child abuse.

i've not heard anything about this brought up.

is the rc concerned solely with life altering abuse only in the form of sexual molestation, or is it looking at how the organization deals with all life altering forms of abuse jw children are exposed to the result of watchtower teaching and society?

I wonder if I should reach out. I almost lost my son due to my backward thinking. I was an elder when he was diagnosed with leukemia. Had it not been for the courts my beautiful son would not be here. It is likely I wouldn't be either.

I just told a jw in front of a donut shop in my new neighborhood that she was committing emotional blackmail. I think that is what we should call it - blackmail. The damage is both ways especially when family is inflicting it. When a parent commits this heinous act I believe the emotional scars become evident in all of the auto immune diseases so common amongst jws.

hi i am delighted to be apart of the community.. having left the witnesses one of my first challenges was my believe in god.

naturally.. i have concluded that i am alive and conscious.

now my intuition tells me god exists, but my analytical thinking tells me god does not exist.

People respond abusively to believers like you Perry. It is because of your asinigne statements like all people believe in God. Believers that are like you are no different than the jws that stick there head in the sand or have their apologetic responses at the ready.

Faith is the antonym of fact. Belief requires one to stop critical thinking and is extremely dangerous.

firstly, thank you to anyone who is in support of this rc.

no one has shown anything but great interest and empathy for those who were abused.. i don't know who this simonsays character is though and i find him to be very rude and ignorant.

it takes all kinds to make the world go round i suppose.. today i was contacted by a staff member of the royal commission.

Thank you for this post. You are one courageous person. Most survivors like yourself are the humblest people I have come across. I know you are not in this for money but for justice. With that said you need every penny you can get as that is the only justice the creeps at the top get. I hope you get compensated as you deserve that and more.

Governing Body member is in Australia right now!

sorry i have to remain completely anonymous about this but you will see why.

i have first hand knowledge that geoffrey jackson of the governing body is staying with his parents in toowoomba, queensland for the next few weeks.

he has already been in australia for a couple of weeks.

The only reason I could think of not sending is if the royal commission has a surprise subpoena. Which I seriously doubt. I imagine these things take months to put together. Even if it jeopardized there subpoena I still think it's worth it. The news coverage of a jw leader dodging the press would be priceless.

I also wonder of Jackson could be the next Ray Franz. I admit that I don't know him well but he seems to be a genuine true believer. Not one that puts on a show like Lett or Morris.

hello to those following what is going in australia with our royal commission.. i want to let all those abused, neglected, shunned and blamed that i understand why you may not front the rc.

the wtbts is hoping you will consider yourself an invalid complainant, because you are not or were not.....baptised.

if you were abused at a young age and you told on your dad or the bad man that did it.......you would have been taken aside by the overseer and read scriptures about lying and being immoral; even if you didn't know what that word meant.

The only consolation I have is that for you apologists to say or defend the things you do means you already live in a special kind of hell. That of your f'd up minds.

Perry the delusional. Yes belief in an imaginary invisible being is delusional. Quantity of the deluded does not make it any less deluded, just more frightening.

The only reason atheists are viewed the way they are in some circles is due to arrogant, prejudiced religious bigots like yourself.

I'm an atheist, a father, husband, son, brother, friend, among many others. My primary fear is that the deluded religious folk will block the progress we have made and devolve society to the religious bigotry of yesteryear.

Why is it even an issue? Only in upside down alice in wonderland world is this even insulting.

Militant religion is death dealing. Militant atheism involves ridicule of ridiculous ideas. Most would have no issue mocking people espousing Poseidon for a safe sea voyage. How is what Dawkins states any different.

If anyone here wants to take issue with something how about we focus on the real atrocious teachings and belief systems. ISIS, and the like. There is no comparison. Religion of any stripe deserves nothing but disdain from all ethical beings. Whether extreme like ISIS or the pacifist Jains. All stunt human development in one way or another.

It's like we are the 40 year old virgin that refuses to grow up and strike out on our own. Fear of the unknown will continue to cloud minds as long as we continue to enable these belief systems.

i have been in correspondence recently with silentambs and a few interesting things have been highlighted.

some of you may know, that bill bowen has twice tried to get the fbi involved in investigating child molestation issues in the jws org.

this is what he said to me, i quote: we have reported to the fbi on two occasions and were rebuffed due to them not wishing to get involved with a religion.
