FISHERMAN - You are truly a disgusting individual. I wonder if your tone would be the same if your little girl had been treated as some of these little ones have. People like you remind me of the lengths jw minds go to in order to rationalize their beliefs. -

He is now 8. When he has his portocath removed from his chest later this month he will be enrolling in martial arts and baseball. He can't wait. He couldn't do it before because of the potential danger to his port that is right next to his heart. -

It has been a long road. Hopefully he is done with this. 90% remission rate and he has responded very well to his treatment.
Thank you for all your support and well wishes. It means a lot after losing so much of our prior support system.
Now I'm off to hold my kids as we watch a movie together.

We're Ashya Kings parents right?
by The Rebel indo you remember the case?
jehovers witness parents did a runner without telling the medical staff caring for their seriously ill child and took him to receive proton therapy in praque as this treatment was not available in the u.k.. first most importantly the good news, the boy was declared cancer free last march.. anyway i am sure at the time this issue would have created a lot of heated debate on the forum, as it was a case that created a media frenzy, with the parents and their jehovers witness religious beliefs being heavily critizised .
however as i followed the case i couldn't help but admire the parents, as i felt they would have acted indepentedly of both the jehovers witness organisation and the u.k medical advice, having in my opinion seriously thought the matter through, and then doing they thought was the best way for treatment.. so if you remember the case my questions are:-.

I was also driven by the blood transfusion issue. Had someone in the media asked me I probably would have lied about it and rationalized it by convincing myself it was for the best treatment with the least side effects out there.
I don't know what Ashyas parents were thinking but it would not surprise me in the least that he lied about the blood transfusion being a large part of their decision making process. Knowing it knocked there remission chances down to the 50 percentile is evidence of that likelihood.

When my son was diagnosed I was a mess in many ways. I was a died in the wool believer. My JW upbringing developed in me a deep suspicion and distrust of the medical field.
A few weeks prior to my son's diagnosis we saw the "Gerson Miracle" on Netflix. My wife's first call was to their clinic in Mexico. You see they are banned in the U.S. because of their quackery. At the time we believed the conspiracies about the medical field. My wife's ability to cure herself of endometriosis using natural methods when her doctor claimed having children was hopeless didn't help our view.
Had the Gerson clinic told her they would accept him I would have taken him out of the country in a heart beat, and likely lost him and my daughter. Thank goodness they don't accept children into their clinic. I know I would have taken him because I threatened to do so.

Chemotherapy knocks down blood counts. Children undergoing a long term protocol with multiple years of treatment require blood transfusions on occasion. My son just needed one a couple of months ago and this is his third year of treatment. He is in the 90 percentile due to sticking to his protocol.
Part of the Kings mistrust of the doctors likely come from their being jws.
Cofty - my wife and I followed this closely when it broke and we bought it. We were waking up around this time. Had no idea of the other side. Can you point me to where I can find the NHS side.

JWdaughter - great recommendation. I was going to ask my doctor who I should speak to on the subject. I was hoping I could make a brief 10 to 15 minute presentation during work training. Bringing snacks or lunch. -

Orphan crow & Neverknew - thank you. I will incorporate both.
All for show - many doctors and nurses assume the average person knows that the treatments they or their loved ones undergo is confidential. Many jws automatically think the hlc is their for them and once there cannot be dismissed. It would be helpful if doctors and nurses told patients that they can give the transfusion at night and not have anyone else know about it. That is the parents right. Giving them another option.
It is a whirlwind when in that situation. Your world is falling apart. I thought my son was going to die and angry at god and everything. I almost punched a hole through my tile bathroom wall. The last thing someone can face in that state of emergency is the thought of losing your entire support system.
What you are stating about doctors not caring about these types of things has not been my experience with my son's children's hospital. I believe what you are expressing is where things were and have been. Just treat the disease and not the person. Fortunately that has changed over the years though progress is still needed.

All for show - I appreciate what you have to say and how you put it. How do you think they would respond bringing up that many parents do not know or really understand how confidentiality works.
If not them maybe the nursing staff.
