Kate you are one of the reasons I started these threads. To hopefully get through some of the thick headedness on display here regarding some people's inability to separate beliefs from people.

Outlaw I didn't say you were good with that. I am talking about respecting their beliefs. 2 separate things.
I'm trying to illustrate how ridiculous it is to state that beliefs of any kind merit respect. This example is the extreme result of such a stance. I'm not saying every belief is the same just that knocking people that challenge someone elses belief system is dangerous and needs to be called out as such.
Outlaw so I guess your ok with people that believe we should respect the beliefs of jihadi extremists. There are many out there and it is unfortunately part of our popular culture to just say meh.
Atheist extremists kill with words while religious extremists kill with steel. 2 sides of the same coin I guess. So yes I agree to disagree.
If you don't get it you don't get it. It's not about dumping on people with faith. It's about dumping on people that decry challenging beliefs. Many of these people are atheists.
I'm trying to progressively illustrate the ridiculousness of that stance. People that are non believers complaining about it doesn't help drive home the point. There are more people viewing this site than posting on it. I know, I have windows of time where I can post with a young family and all.

No I'm not trying to stir controversy. I'm trying to drive home a point about how ridiculous the statements are that a belief or any belief system deserves respect. Sorry if reality is to difficult for people to deal with. This is the world we live in and beliefs have real world consequences.
I for one am getting sick of the continuous lecturing that continues to come from too many here how we need to be respectful of others beliefs. People don't like it, so be it.

Just fine. You are right you are under no obligation to try and save others. However each of us are not an island. What one believes matters as it affects each and every one of us. If you prefer not to be part of the conversation that's your prerogative. I choose to be part of the conversation. For my sake, my children's sake, their children's sake, and others children's sake. It's the least I can do.
Konceptual99. My entire family shuns me as well with the exception of my mom, wife, and young children. Even in the midst of my 8 year old sons chemo treatments they shun us, and yet I do not sneer at them. I do have tremendous disrespect for their beliefs and I try to drop notes with the hope they will get through.
I'm continually baffled by the inability of so many to separate beliefs and people. I do think that one on one conversation works best with tact. That being said it appears that ridicule on a broad scale has proven to have tremendous results as well. Many of the debaters that I have heard have stated they are not trying to win the debate but rather help people see how ridiculous their beliefs are. When not directing the challenges to an individual it has tremendous results as is becoming more and more evident of the fastest growing group in the U.S. non-believers.
Yes Kairos I have looked into it giving it was a joke. It wasn't and I was shocked. The stupidity on display by these flat earthers is simply astonishing. So many holes in their case. Almost every point beyond the surface falls apart.
