Or sing from the heart with feeling and praise to him?
I normally did ... and it was ... in the kingdom hall - like the singers at the back of the song-book. Should have seen the faces of the others
i feel like such a dufus sometimes .
i started attending a church a couple of years ago - i really like it but was really puzzled at first because they sang a lot of songs at the beginning of service.......like 6 or 7. i've gotten used to it - but still didn't really get it.
that is...until this sunday.
Or sing from the heart with feeling and praise to him?

things were different when you were active in the org.
meetings, talks, service, assemblies, elders meetings, congrgational duties, busy with the hope of a reward of living forever and serving god with eternity in view.
all of your efforts and goals related to being a jw, your thinking, your views, your life, your future all revolved aroung the org.. with all that aside, what are you doing now?
I would answer with a song:
Monty Python: Meaning Of Life
Why are we here, what is life all about?
Is God really real, or is there some doubt?
Well tonight we're going to sort it all out,
For tonight it's the Meaning of Life.
What's the point of all these hoax?
Is it the chicken and egg time, are we all just yolks?
Or perhaps, we're just one of God's little jokes,
Well ca c'est the Meaning of Life.
Is life just a game where we make up the rules
While we're searching for something to say
Or are we just simple spiralling coils
Of self-replicating DNA?
What is life? What is our fate?
Is there Heaven and Hell? Do we reincarnate?
Is mankind evolving or is it too late?
Well tonight here's the Meaning of Life.
For millions this life is a sad vale of tears
Sitting round with really nothing to say
While scientists say we're just simply spiralling coils
Of self-replicating DNA.
So just why, why are we here?
And just what, what, what, what do we fear?
Well ce soir, for a change, it will all be made clear,
For this is the Meaning of Life - c'est le sens de la vie -
This is the Meaning of Life.
blaming the writting department or the governing body for the watchtower policies and studies makes the blame impersonal.. who are the individuals ?.............the people pulling the strings !!
for example who (as individuals) are the watchtower laywers?...who as an individual wrote the latest study article?
who approved it?.
Who as an Individual wrote the latest study article?
Some wordprocessor rehashing old phrases?
"millions now living may never die"
that is how the september 1,1989, watchtower refers to the 1918 lectures (p.13).
although the society's watchtower publications index: 1930-1985 makes dozens of references to the book and lectures as ..."will never die" i could not find a single reference to millions now living may never die.
Maybe that REALLY WAS the name of the talk when given in Los Angeles, then Rutherford decided to change the title from MAY Never Die to "WILL Never Die" for later lectures and for publication.
That is exactly the point. The talk first had the theme "may never die". This time they didn't rewrite history.
BTW: Rutherford did not mean that millions will become Bible Students and going to heaven. If you read his book Deliverance (page ~380) you would see he meant people at armageddon seeing the sign of christ and turning at that time to him. They would survive on earth. Today it should read "billions now living ..."

now that we're starting to read the bible at the beginning again.........i was wondering if this subject has ever been discussed.. the length of the creative days........used to be considered 7000 years in length.......stated rather dogmatically up until around the mid 1980's.
(aid book says this......insight book does not) of course....this is quite rediculous.......... more recent publications don't stress this .........just periods of time.......... yet there was never anything published to indicate how wrong this old view was.........done very gradually.......i think some still think the creative days were still 7000 years long.. if this topic has come up before.....maybe someone could post a link to it..
The WTS uses this technique and then points back to show, "we always taught that."
IMHO this is not posssible with the teaching of the 7000 years. Too many other doctrines are tied into this. As already stated it begins with the Millenium = 1000 year reign of Christ. This is also called a sabbath hence the 7th day. Now we have a week and that makes 7*1000 = 7000 years. We have the 7th day of creation so as stated before it is 49.000 years.
Several Watchtower officials absolutely refused to give a straight answer, simply dancing around it.
If you drop any time scale you also have to drop the sabbath rest which is mentioned by Paul and is meant (by WTS) to be the millenium reign. I guess that's why nobody gets an official answer to this critical question.

Would this mean the end is 2015?
Ooops ... of course i mean 2005
I found another interesting point regarding the thousands of years
*** ct "Is there a creator who cares?" (1998) chap. 6 p. 93 An Ancient Creation Record? Can You Trust It? ***A person can see this from what the Bible says about the seventh "day." The record of each of the first six "days" ends saying, ?and there came to be evening and morning, a first day,? and so on. Yet, you will not find that comment after the record of the seventh "day." And in the first century C.E., some 4,000 years downstream in history, the Bible referred to the seventh rest "day" as still continuing. (Hebrews 4:4-6) So the seventh "day" was a period spanning thousands of years, and we can logically conclude the same about the first six "days."
And what can we conclude about the time involved? look at this
*** it-1 p. 545 Creation ***The week of days set forth at Genesis 1:3 to 2:3, the last of which is a sabbath, seems to parallel the week into which the Israelites divided their time, observing a sabbath on the seventh day thereof, in keeping with the divine will. (Ex 20:8-11) And, since the seventh day has been continuing for thousands of years, it may reasonably be concluded that each of the six creative periods, or days, was at least thousands of years in length. So if we span the the creation days to - let say - millions of years, the 7th day should be the same length ... hence no harmagedon in sight.

Normally if the WTS doesn't eplicitly change teachings the old one is valid. So i made some research on this topic (sorry but i can't post it - it's in german) and gave it to a friend. The Library still shows the 7000 year period - or if you like (7) thousands of years. This is one point which start me thinking of all the WT doctrines. They also still wait for the fullfilling of 6000 years with the reason that we don't know the time Adam was in Eden - maybe 30 years? Would this mean the end is 2015?
well i have redone the maps.
it was helpful to have them separated before while i was trying to make them all.
but now i think it is easier to have them separated.. ballistic has done an amazing job with the map of the uk you can find it at.
That's a great map! May i join for Germany so GermanJW is not alone anymore?
my husband was baptised right after he turned 11 years old.
this was highly unusual in his congregation (not sure what the average age is) as most people were at least 16 or 17 before they took the fatal plunge.
by the time my husband was 16, he realized what a huge mistake it was as he no longer wanted to have anything to do with it.
I was 25 and now i'm sure i did NOT know what i did.
An elderly sister of my cong (baptised at age of ~60) used to say "If i knew how DF'd are treated i wouldn't have joined"
So IMO it doesn't matter how old you are ... you are just drawn into a cult.
well i did .....all the time.
it always bothered me that i couldn't even stay awake to thank my god.
i found out later many did the same.
Best experience was always when falling asleep while praying ... then awaken ... and then continuing prayer feeling guilty not to remember what i said in the beginning.
