  WOW! People from Irvington Congregation!!!! I lived in Indy for a few years and went to Irvington Congregation. Then they switched things around I was supposed to go to Christian Park, but I moved up to the North Side briefly....College Park Congregation, but then came back to the East side again (it wasn't Arlington Heights, I don't think, but at that same KH on 21st street....no longer Irvington.....can't remember.....) Then I left Indy for good....that was about 1992. Anyone remember the Kleines, Kevin & Cathy McAtee, Carl Bredensteiner?

  Now it's my DOG too!

  alright, this is getting downright farcical, in a very tragic sort of way.

  i started a thread the other day about my mother, who is in the last stages of alzheimer's and just started hospice care.

  today i found out that our dear old dexter, a basset of almost 13 years, our first child, has a cancerous tumor.

  I'm sorry to hear about Dexter. I am a huge dog lover -- I believe that they are people, too. :-) I love bassets. I have a big, fat beagle and a white german shepard, whom I love dearly, so I can imagine how you feel. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

  ps--you mentioned Dallas....I am going there next weekend with my fiancee for a meeting....it's going to be a looooong drive from Illinois....hope the weather is good!

  Thank you for the link. Wow....I have been thinking of gathering some information for my mom, who has been a JW for abour 54 years....not so much as to pull her out, but to try to give her a better idea of the reason for my leaving/fading several years ago. She still is hanging on to the idea that someday I will come to my senses and return...and that just is not so. So, I've been online collecting various information like this, so thanks again!

  Prince and upcoming Tour song list

  ok, prince is coming to our town on his latest tour.

  the ads all say that this is the last time that he'll play his "old songs".

  well, some of those "old songs" (which i do like) are not very witness-like at all, as you may know.

Well, some of those "old songs" (which I do like) are not very Witness-like at all, as you may know. My friend is a big fan of the old (dirty) Prince songs and wants to go....I warned her that he was now a JW and that he probably wouldn't do those songs. She was shocked. I've tried to find out what songs he plans to do, but can't find much online with those kinds of details. Anyone here have any ideas?

  Are JW"S coerced to refuse blood transfusions?

  jesus showed the intended purpose of god's laws, when he worked on the sabath, avoided answering the tax question, forgave sinners that were commanded to be put to death by god's law, etc.

  what jesus showed when he seemed to be offending god to fanatics was that saving life is more important that obedience to laws.

  whatever god meant when he enjoined "abstinance from blood" to christians as belived by the wt, or when he commanded noah not to eat blood, and whatever the meaning is for people today of the laws that prevent the eating of blood and restricted the use of blood, certainly, based the way that jesus showed how god's laws should be applied, it makes sense that god did not mean that one should obey blood laws when eating or transfusing blood is the only means at hand to survive.

  I remember hearing a very, very informative talk by Peter Gregerson at a past BRCI conference regarding the topic of Blood. I wish that I had the transcript of that talk, because it was so informative. He had discussed this matter and the ancient law with a Jewish rabbi. The basic logic that I received from it, was that even though there was the Jewish law, there were exceptions to these laws, such as when it was a life or death matter. Even Jesus broke the sabbath law in order to heal people. He even gave an example from the rabbi of an exception to the law on these grounds (which I can't remember). It made such sense. yes, the eating of blood may have been forbidden, but in this day and age, it is not for eating, but it is for the saving of a sacred life, so I see where it would not be the same. I just wish I had more definite details from his talk, because it was exceptional.

  Yes, I have heard of this often....sometimes it began with elders giving 'spiritual support' to sisters, and then it turns into something sexual. In my case, my first husband & I were good little virgin JWs...we moved to a bigger congregation where his brother went. His brother was known to hit on any gals, especially non-JW. He was married. Well, he was also in a 'relationship' with an widow who was about 10 years older than us....who had also tried to break apart of couple of elders' marriages. She almost succeeded with his marriage. Instead, they were told to stay away from each other, and we were new in the congregation and didn't know all that had gone on....and he asked us to befriend this sister, as she needed friendship. He took all the blame for their relationship and said she needed us. She became my instant friend and eventually my husband's best friend....too much of a friend. We divorced and they moved in together...until her drinking and blackouts and throwing things at him became too much for him.

  I have the firm belief that many times things like this happen because of the sheltering and being naive about relationships with members of the opposite sex in general. When you are raised as JWs, you truly don't get to experience normal relationships and get all mixed up...sometimes marrying for the wrong reasons to people that you don't really know.....then others come along and you either find them more compatible or they can be like predators and you don't know how to identify them and you can get caught up with them and their schemes.

  One of my best JW friends (who is now DA'd for many years) was not raised as a child as a JW and she was much more keen on seeing people for who they really are and was more balanced in her relationships because she had experienced real life and real people.

  A KH wedding? LOL That made me chuckle. My fiancee is pretty understanding when it comes to the JW 'baggage', but I swear that one of these days he is going to deck an elder if they ever bug me about anything......or try to DA or DF me. Therefore, to get HIM into a KH for that would truly take an "Act of God". (actually, I think I can hear Vegas calling us.....ha ha ha!)
