A good rebuttel to the JWs when they say: "We are not a cult"
by logansrun inthis from a lecture i heard by an anthropologist:.
"the adequacy of a definition is not to be judged by the group to whom it is applied.
marinate on that for a minute.. bradley

Logansrun, That was great! Since I came to this site and others like it, and really found out the truth about the WTS that I grew up in. I realize now why people always refered to it as a cult. Whenever I discuss religion now I start off with this statement. " I grew up in the cult of JW's". PC

Bed wetting?

I wasn't even going to view this post and then said what the heck. I just started to laugh out loud when I read it. I have three older brothers. Growing up as witnesses all three had bed wetting problems. My mom eventually had this thing installed when they wet the bed this loud ringing bell would go off. Did I mention my dad was the PO.I have two boys and never had any problem with them wetting the bed. Must be because I chose to leave the witnesses and give them a normal childhood. Thanks for the laugh PC

Herk, I am a little confused by your statement. If you go to www.ntgreek.org/answers/answer-frame-john1_1.htm ,t shows the correct greek translation. When you read the entire article it appears to me the NWT is the only bible that does not translate is correctly. If that is true why would you suggest using it? PC

I too have been trying to find out what translation is best. In my travels I have found two good sites. One is www.ntgreek.org/ This can help you translate the verses correctly. Another site is about bibles. www.netbible.org/docs/soapbox/versions.htm
Scholar you should check out the NETBIBLE SITE. The only one they say is horribly translated is yours truly, NEW WORLD TRANSLATION!!! A completely unbiased site. I'm surprised Knorr didn't call it "The Bible According To Me"!

How long did it take you?
by jumper ini spent most of my life waiting for the sky to fall, with most aspects of my life dominated by fear.
iam 37 and havent set foot in kh in over 8 years but at times even today when my brain say things like "dont think you have gotten away with anything gods still going to kill you".
the thoughts dont stay very long or come very often but when they do its out of the blue, and not cool at all.

Jumper, I stopped associating 20 years ago. I'd go to a meeting with my parents when I'd visit them with my kids. I always felt the same way as you. Waiting for the end to come. I was so brainwashed that I convinced my "worldly" husband about some of the doctrines. My mom got sick and I started researching the blood issue bcause she had a blood disease. She then died two years ago after years of not accepting blood. I started a journey from that day forward. She died May 2001. I live in CT and was specifically effected on Sept 11th. I then went to listen to a pastor in my town just to go somewhere that following Sunday. My life changed that day. I realized that there are people who are searching without any motive. Just good, nice, sincere people. I've been on my journey since. I found this website sometime around Oct of 2003. I have been amazed at the information I've read here. I now realize, take nothing at face value, and research it yourself(something JW's never do). So basically it took me my whole life(46 years) to see the light, but it's warm and sweet. Better to find out now then never is my saying. God bless you on your journey!!!PC

Dear JT
I'm new around here and just read your post and all the wonderful things people wrote to you. You must be an incredible person. I am one of those who was raised as a Witness. Family was very connected to the early days of Bethel and Gilead School. I have a great life, but am so sad about everyone, and all the different situations weve gone through. I couldn't stop crying about your friend who went to prison for honoring the JW's. I will keep him in my mind everytime I say a pray. I wish you a wonderful 41st birthday. I hope your future journey in life, with your wife and family is filled with love and happiness. PC

I just read this old thread. How many people are at Bethel? How depressing that place must be. Who do they get to go there anymore? If they only get $20.00 a week, how do they buy clothes? Don't they hear of the fact the the WTS makes $950,000.00 a year? How sad for them.

Search for meaning to life?
by Amazing insomething recently occurred to me that many people, whether former jws or others who faced hardships in life, often look for meaning to life ... specifically a special meaning to their own lives ... i have done that at times, before i became a jw, while a jw, and more so since i left the religion.. i was having a conversation recently with my oldest son who is now 29 years old.
we discussed the meaning to life and how he sees himself now - in his ex-jw years - given that he was raised a jw.
he made the following comment i thought some here may find insightful.

I agree with Bebu completely. Life is great! Go out and find your own greatness. That's what I keep telling my staunch JW dad. God gave us this earth to enjoy it. He always trys to show me all the bad stuff and I go right back with all the excellent stuff. Remember how everyone was so "evil". Since losing my guilt and really getting invloved with people, and life, I have found some really remarkable human beings. I'm sure alot of those people are right here on this board. Eveyone have a great fantastic day!!!Bye for now PC
