Qcmbr Welcome!
I just finished reading "Under the Banner of Heaven", did you read it and what is your take on the information presented? I found it very similar to the Watchtower brainwashing.
hi all, just thought i'd introduce myself before i make any other posts - i'm lds through and through 'nuff said.
why am i here, well i've been reading the posts here for over a year and i initially enjoyed them in a sneaky rival faction way (i.e.
one in the eye for jw's yehaw..)but of late i've been redaing these posts and using them to critique my own approach to my faith.

.
i am pretty sure this is what i am.
i would love to chat with anyone else who might want to sort some stuff out with me.. many thanks!.
I am in agreement with the other posters. I am into Christ and feel awakened. I however, do not go around preaching about it to anyone. I just feel close to God and try to imitate Jesus example for the most part. I obviously always fall short!!! PC
did anyone else hear of this jw urban legend that the sweatshirt company b.u.m.
equipment was owned by witnesses ("in california"), and that b.u.m.
stands for brothers united in the ministry?
I know that was not true. I was a buyer for a huge Jr. sportswear company in NYC and they were one of my vendors. I knew the people well and they certainly were not JWs. I actually never heard that rumour. What is it with witnesses always trying to be part of something hip and cool at the moment and then looking down on it????
hey folks,.
an era in the ex-jw history is over.
kent steinhaug's site http://watchtower.observer.org is being shut down.. it was the first of it's kind, and to this day probably still the largest anti wt site on the net.
I missed alot of this thread, where do you stand for the money. What does it mean if you get the $500. for the site. I will definetly contribute so please let me know. If you want someone can pm me what needs to be done. pc
i always wanted to re-read the bible after i left the org; to be able to read it without having to feel like i had to apply something, or to have to read it out of obedience, etc.... well, i have always liked the new world translation, i know it isn't perfect, but i think it is better than some.
but i have always wanted to get a different modern english translation, and read that.
well, i finally picked up a new international version at wal-mart the other day...under $6, what a bargain.. started last night, and finished genesis today, and am just starting into exodous.
Eyebrow I too am reading the bible. I never did as a witness. I actually do read it with some friends ever so often but not planned. It is an eye opener when you read it as a stand alone book without any other aids. To me now it is very clear that our only commands are to love God alone and others as ourself. Using the bible in that context really makes for a better person in my book. pc
after celebrating an incredible christmas with my family and coming here to read some post i wanted to wish you all a good tidings.
for the most part, people can not imagine what happens to people who are raised in the "truth" or invovled for a long time.
having grown up as a witness my dad the congregation overseer i realize all to well what we go through once realzing the reality of the lies.
Hello to all. Well for all of you truly remarkable people posting here I wish you love, joy, happiness, and peace for the new year. I spent Christmas Eve with my husbands family(catholics) and my brothers(faded jw)family and had a great evening. Christmas Day my family with a few others gave out gifts to a project in Bridgeport CT. and enjoyed every moment of trying to do a little something for those less fortuate( truly not trying to f;oat my boat). Peace to you all........PC

did you pray for health, even if you knew that only in the new system your health would get better.... did you pray for a bible study?.
did you pray not to be tempted by the debil?
That's funny Blondie, (unfortunely true)
just told my jw dad( who only talks about witness stuff ) we will be finishing decorating our christmas tree tonight.
he then started with the old so & so said blah blah blah about christmas being pagan.
i cut him right off and said"i know what they say but for us it's about family".
I know your right.
I just am so tired of working everything around him and his holier(is that spelled right?)than wife.

Funny thing is I really never prayed. Only when I thought a demon was coming for me in the middle of the night!!
Jehovah, Jehovah, Jehovah LOL

He then started with the old so & so said blah blah blah about Christmas being pagan. I cut him right off and said"I know what they say but for us it's about family". We love getting together with my husbands family and now my exjw brother and his family come. The kids love it so I don't care what anyone says. Then I said listen dad everyone can't pick and chose what they want to see as pagan. How about wedding rings thier pagan but you still wear yours and mom's after she died. He just stopped and changed the subject. The funny thing is my other brother who is an Elder came last year to Christmas Eve. We worked it all around him. No gift exchanges till they left and stayed out of the living room so he didn't have to see the tree. I decided this year not to invite him because it really put a damper on everyone else. Funny thing is I spoke to him the other day and he sounded so depressed. I think he was waiting for an invitation but I said nothing. I kinda felt sorry for him.
