since the j-dubs have home bible studies that can be considered religious gatherings , i was wondering if anyone knew if the jw can claim their property under the tax exempt status of a church .

...the congregation book study sounds like something that needs to take place at the KH.
I agree, the 'ever ready' stance of always being prepared for when the Trib. shuts down the KH's, I always thought was extreme.

The Tax write-off sounds like it might be partialy right, but knowing the IRS you would have a tough sell on your hands.

our service overseer came to our bookstudy and did his routine talk on, "you're not doing enough", "what you are doing isn't quality", "do more, more, more" in the field service.
No, but I'm not surprised. I noticed an absence of standards developing before I left.
As for reporting Field Service time, shortly before I left I called the Elder (who was expecting me to report my hours), and told him I was not going to report my time anymore because my Field Service contributions were the same as my Monetary contributions - PRIVATE.

This is the same elder who later stated during a public talk, "When armageddon comes, all I can say is God help those of us who are not putting in at least 10 hours per month".

I am also of the opinion that big things will be happening soon concerning the UN and the War On Terror. I suspect stongly that, one way or another, the U.S. will turn the war over to the UN who will then decide that the problem is religion.

It would be interesting to talk to some of the "writers" at Bethel and see what they personally believe.
This has been a point of contention for me for a long time. The WTS is sure interested to know who the human authors of the bible were, but when it comes time to accredit their own publications authorship is deemed un-important under the guise of humility!!
