i don't know if someone has already posted on this at a previous time and i just didn't see it then, but i saw something for the first time on tv today that totally blew me away.. it happened while i was watching a local television channel's normal afternoon of syndicated shows, during the commercial break.
i'm sure a lot of you have seen the commercials from the mormons and the church of jesus christ of latter day saints.
they're always promoting family and love and togetherness.

I live in North Dakota. Apparently these commercials have been around for a little while, but this is the first time I had seen one, let alone even knew they existed. I guess I should have expected it was only a matter of time before they took advantage of yet another opportunity to "spread the good news".

I'm sure a lot of you have seen the commercials from the Mormons and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They're always promoting family and love and togetherness. Well, this commercial I watched seemed like a carbon copy of every single Latter Day Saint commercial I've ever seen in my entire life, with one detail changed. At the end, instead of the normal tag line "Brought to you by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints", it said "Sponsored by the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses."

Has membership gotten so bad for the org that they're actually following suit from the mormons and running television advertisements trying to get new converts to come in? I just couldn't believe what I had seen. Had anybody else seen these on your local stations?
most of the people that i know of that got married in a kingdom hall never admitted to "loose conduct" or "fornication" until sometime after their consciences bothered them.
some never had a conscience issue , but they did tell their friends , who, in turn, told others that they really weren't "qualified" to get married in the hall.
do you think that most jw couples "fool around" before they get married?
I'm sure more did than didn't.

kind of like the amish do when they have "barn raisings.

Hi, I just wanted to make a quick comment regarding some of the above posters mentioning there being an issue with shorts and them not being allowed. Was this a recent change? When I was part of a QB in 1985, everyone was wearing shorts (myself included) and no one ever mentioned a word. Not as many brothers were in shorts (although some were) but the vast majority of the sisters showed up in t-shirts and shorts.

what happens when they die?
will they then finally admit to being a steaming pile of bs, or will the org just continually cycle other old guys in as the first ones drop off, telling the new ones to just pick up where the others left off?

i was wondering if someone could give me a brief synopsis of what the drama was about, as well as any "new releases" that came out.
i'm asking because i'm sure my mother will be calling soon with her yearly "how did you enjoy the convention, dear" conversation, and since i have no intention of going to the convention (or any meetings for that matter) but i'm not quite ready to tell her that yet, i'd like to be able to at least give her something to create the illusion i was there.
Sure astrid_kittie, if it's not too much trouble. I'm going to end up having to take a trip to visit my parents next weekend, so that'll give me a little less that a week to brush up on all the "spiritual food" I can find.

i firmly believe that if 60 minuites would have done this coverage it would have been better and more directed and clear!!!.
