unbuttoning the watchman
by czarofmischief inin my current campaign against "e-watchman" i am going to copy tactics i learned from my favorite watchtower studies - posted weekly by blondie.
my urge to do this is caused by what i view as a real danger to those who are escaping the intense mind control of the borg.
e-watchman uses guilt and condemnatory statements in a big way, which could strike those who are feeling guilty about leaving the watchtower anyway.

What do you anticipate would happen to this person if their identity was revealed?

Do you think the governing body sincerely believe what they teach?
by AJN ini haven't had a chance to read crisis of conscience yet, it's a 2 month wait here unfortunately for delivery and i feel it will probably answer some of my questions regarding the gb but it occurs to me - i wonder if they *really* believe what they teach, if they *really* believe it's the truth or are they really manipulating money makers operating a dysfunctional mlm scheme that ruins people's lives.
or perhaps somewhere in the middle lol.. oh yeah, and if anyone knows how the 'new light' is supposedly delivered i'd love to hear about it.. what do you think?
if anyone has read coc and has any quotes that might be useful please post :)

Thanks again :) Yup I've got my KJ version here. All's cool - I'm keeping my boundaries up.
It's quite amusing actually, as I'm reading the magazines I am thinking "yeah right - and I used to take all this stuff and believe it", no questions asked. *sigh* Fairy tales...

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply and give me all that info, advice and links - I really appreciate it :) I've checked them all out and I'm a bit mindblown by it all but it'll sink in slowly :)
I did something really stupid or brave today - I contacted an Elder and went round to buy some literature - didn't give him my address of course and because I'm disfellowshipped he didn't push for a Bible study (thank heavens for small mercy's). I got some mags, the NWT and the knowledge book and draw close to Jehovah book. All good stuff for research :)
Thanks again everyone :) You're awesome ppl :)

Hmm, not sure how to write this - here goes:
I left the JW's about 15 years ago however my 18 year old son is a Witness. We haven't seen each other for many years and the only contact we have is via the telephone occasionally (all this is cool btw). Just recently I've been thinking about the religion and wondering about spiritual things in general. I also feel I have some responsiblity regarding my son being in the "Truth" so in order to find a way to approach this responsibility I have recently been reading here and other Ex-JW sites hoping to basically 'deprogram' myself as much as eventually my son. There was a lot of stuff undealt with regarding scripture and beliefs etc which I just basically ignored until recently.
OK - this might sound wierd but I've been feeling the 'draw' into it again. There is a need for an emotional connection which is sorely missing from my life as it is at present. It's something I think I might need to address as if I don't I might get pulled back into the "Truth" again. I don't know if this is anything to do with my doubt that there is a God and the need for a connection there which might possibly heal a lot of troubles in my life.
From what I remember and have read lately there were some *good* things about being in the "Truth" - I thought the people in my old congregation were genuine and believed what they taught because it was taken out of the Bible. I'm sure the turnabout that the WTBTS made regarding the 1914 date has however shaken some, and probably greatly dissapointed them too. It's had an impact on me and my unresolved issues regarding my time in the "Truth".
It seems there is a part of me that still believes there is a lot of 'Truth' in the 'Truth' and that's a bit scary as I need to resolve my feelings around this before I can be strong enough to really talk to my son about it all.
I don't know if this is the right question to ask but don't any of you feel there might be genuine 'Truth' in the 'Truth'? Some of you seem so sure that there isn't - how can you be so sure?
Hmm, don't worry - I'm not trying to infiltrate the board lol - these are genuine questions. I'd love to hear your opinions on it so be straight with me k?

Hi all
by AJN ini was a jw about 15 years ago and have been reading these forums for a while.
it took a long time to get over the fear of armageddon for sure.
my 18 year old is still a jw (we live at opposit ends of the world) and i have found your information really useful as i am preparing some kind of telephone 'presentation', as it were, regarding jw beliefs and the difference between jw and the other christian churches and what the message of jesus was.

Hello :)
I was a JW about 15 years ago and have been reading these forums for a while. In particular this verse 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
“Now brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the twelve.” So, John, Paul said that the gospel which saves us is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Tad different from the standard JW version of the Good News eh?
Another thing that has struck me is the use of dates that the JW's use to prophesi - didn't Jesus say that no one could know the time or date of the Great Tribulation? It just occurred to me - they've been using dates for years when the Bible says that no one can know the dates. Quite funny really :)
AND - the strangest thing of all - the 'New Light' concerning the 1914 date - that's hillarious - it was the major theme at one time wasn't it? I can imagine how the JW's felt when it was no longer a 'generation' as they had previously known it. Would be similar to the ppl in 1975 I would think. Betrayal - it *surely* made some of them question their faith.
Anyway, I'm waffling - hello to every one again and thanks for the message boards :)
