the last church i attended is probably one of the largest in the so-called bible belt in the southern united states.

i enjoyed attending there for a number of reasons: relaxed attitude, no dress code, the music was superb, and i always felt uplifted after i went.

one of the classes you take prior to membership is about tithing where they tell you it is expected you will give 10 percent of your gross income.

OMGG - that converts to nearly 3/4 million NZ$ - what on earth warrants that kind of salary for a clergyman?

I bought a bible

this is freaky for me, i have no belief that there is god but i wanted to have a bible for refrence so i picked up the kjv.

i think it is a good version to have as some jw's like to quote from it and is good for solving arguments and answering questions.. i have not had a bible since i was 15 and don't even know where my green book went after i quit.

funny thing is when i open it up i really have no idea what to look at or look for because i really have no interest in any of it's content.

If you could live forever, would you and why?

this questions was asked to miss alabama in the 1994 miss u.s.a. contest.

her response was: "i would not live forever, because we should not live forever, because if we were supposed to live forever, then we would live forever, but we cannot live forever, which is why i would not live forever.".

my view.

Yup, provided I could be eternally youthful and have an eternally youthful Brad Pitt as my husband - I quite possibly would never get bored :)

Did You Dedicate Your Life to Serving Jehovah?

i remember at the age of 14, i was studying with a very well respected elder in the congregation.

me, him, and my dad studied together.

every once in a while during the study, he would turn to me and ask me "have you dedicated your life to jehovah?".

Yeah I did, and then fell away about a year later, I was in my early twenties.

I had no idea they would baptise children as young as 8 years old. That's rediculous, surely it's something that should be discouraged until early adulthood? Perhaps they are too desparate for converts and the boost in figures to consider the ability of a child to make a lifelong decision such as baptism is supposed to be. Just my opinion.

clearly, anyone reading this watchtower society response to a "frequently asked question" on their jw-media site would conclude that jehovah's witnesses fully accept that god will spare non-jws through armageddon and grant them salvation.

all that one has to do is take a "stand for truth and righteousness" before god's time of judgment.

therefore, as former-jws, hence also non-jws, we have absolutely taken a stand for "truth and righteousness" such as exposing the criminal behavour of the watchtower leadership and their policies, such as their program that acts to protect jw child molesters.

Britcoms & Sitcoms Questionaire.

some of these sit-coms do actually exist, btw.

how do you rate the one's that are real?.

I miss the Britcoms since I moved away. We do get some here but not many.

Oh yeah - Benny Hill Makes me want to gag. The man is disgusting.

Give me Red Dwarf anyday :)

Infidelity amongst JWs

does there seem to be a higher incidence of infidelity amongst the jws?.

my brother, who is an active jw and ministerial servant, has an elder friend who was recently disfellowshipped for having an affair with another sister in the hall.

it turns out this sister was divorced a few years earlier from a "worldly" man who had an affair on her.

When I was a JW one of the Elders 'fell in love' with me. I did nothing to encourage him (he was 60+ and I was 22 lol). In the end his wife complained to the other Elders that he was spending too much time digging my bloody garden (lol) and he had to admit to having 'feelings' for me (gag) and was asked to step down, which he did.

FAT PEOPLE = BAD ASSOCIATION

i carry a few extra pounds but i generally don't overeat.

however, i enjoy a good meal.

but, the organization that says, "let us not judge others" is giving it's members free reign to judge those who are overweight (in the judger's eyes).
