I'm quite sure that the Society's original motive in joining itself to the UN was to get a regular library card, as opposed to having to use a library pass, which is more restrictive. The library pass, as I understand it, required people to first exhaust other library resources, and then jump through some small hoops to get access to the regular UN library. The regular library card, on the other hand, allowed full and free access. The requirements for a pass were simple, whereas to get a card, a non-governmental organization needed to join itself to the UN as an "Associated NGO". So getting Associated NGO status was simply a convenience.
I still find this excuse a bunch of crap. Tell me this, what is in the UN library that you can't get anywhere else?
I am not ripping on you Alan, I have nothing but the upmost respect for you and your posts. It is the WT excuse I am ripping on.

a friend in need Re: Tell Me----Why Do Those Critical Of This Site, Post Here??? Post 222 of 239
since 31-Mar-04You cute little red dot ... I knew if I suggested this thread, you wouldn't be able to resist. Actually, I am technically a lurker, so you had to change to Critical ones ... it's ok ... I understand ... lol IP: /OTxbfpmFxtTsAa6 Actualy you quit being a "lurker" the second you started posting. And at 239 posts I find it very funny you consider yourself a lurker.

Have any of you experienced a spiritual 'dead end'?
by truth_about_the_truth inlet's face it...most of us were or still are a part of this org.
because we felt a need to bring some meaning or purpose into our lives.. at the beginning there are lot of things that catch our attention, seem to make sense and feel ourselves progressing as individuals.. upon studying, meditating, pioneering, reaching out for privileges, etc.
(doing everything the society pushes).

Long time apostate, first time poster.
by mtbatoon in.
just found this site today and as well as being amused, concerned and shocked at some of the stuff i?ve found here, reading the bios and posts of other ex jw?s has in a way made me feel a little bit less alone in the world.
don?t get me wrong, i?m not an emotionally scared loner, it?s like i?ve finally found someone else to stand outside morning assemble with.

Nope, didn't get any of those things. And the Jw saying, "but we give gifts all year round." Total bullshit in my family. Never got anything giftwrapped or considered a gift unless it was from a nonJW family member (rare occasions). As a matter of fact anything that was in the house that my parents payed for was my parents (my toys ect. ect.). Luckily I started working when I was 15 so by the time I moved out at 18 I had something to take with me other that the clothes on my back.

Post 51 of 51
since 14-Dec-04While not a JW apologist, I doubt that the letter was written by a Witness in "good standing", my bet judging by the style and phraseology in the content of the letter , is that it has been purposefully written with a particular agenda in mind... If my suspicions are correct then the person who has written the letter does his/her cause a great diservice...
Is it just me? Does anybody else take this post to mean that Bill faked the letter ?

I think LittleToe's last meeting is the best.
Hell I can't even remember my last meeting. I was so brain dead at the meetings. I have huge chunks of my life missing in my memory and 99.99% of the meetings I can't even remember. It is like 22 years of my life mostly gone. The bad part is I remember ALL the crappy teachings and doctrine.
