... towards the end when the bad guys opened the ark and Indiana and his lady were tied to the pole, the spiritual unleashing that came out and killed, no, MELTED all the bad guys?
I was probably 9 or 10 when that movie came out and it literally scared the cheese out of me in the theater. I was so glad to be a JW at the time because I felt like I just witnessed the power of God and saw what was going to happen to opposers when judgment day came.
I don't know what triggered that memory just now, but I think I just had a breakthrough about one of the biggest stitches in the fabric of childhood-embedded fear.
Please tell me that I'm not the only one this movie influenced/reinforced JW fear-based thinking. Let the unraveling begin...

Tyrone van leyen,
Not flirting here either, but what you wrote in your first post resonated deeply and echoed many things swirling around in my own mind. Thank you for not erasing your posts and fading into oblivion.
My answer to the OP is no. Ever since exiting the KH I've found life to be a huge banquet of "well-oiled dishes" and I intend to explore anything and everything that brings me joy. I even bought an egg of Silly Putty.

I wouldn't do a corn maze even in daylight on account of the SPIDERS that love to make webs between corn rows and then sit there in the middle right at your face level, staring you in the eye, daring you to take one step further.

Well, I was going to follow that up with something like "...and then go find the biggest Halloween Haunted House in the area!" SOOO, looks like I get 'em both covered in the 'children of the cornfields.'

Everyone's experience is different.
If find yourself swallowed up in a black hole of loss, regrets, anger, thoughts of suicide, etc. it is possible to come through the other side.
This is your life.
You are responsible for your own choices.
You can choose something else (inside or out). -

The Way To Love
by JamesThomas inone of my favorite little books is: the way to love: the last meditations of anthony de mello.. following is from the chapter: be awake.
it may be too direct, ruthlessly honest and straight-forward for many; we are not normally exposed to such hard-hitting guidance.
yet some of you it will touch in a significant way; enough to purchase this rare little gem that you may gleem from its pages much wisdom.. .

Looks like a worthwhile book. Thanks for sharing that, JamesThomas.

We are free to love
by purplesofa inwhat i have noticed since pulling away from group thinking, mindsets, rules and superstitions, that i am open to a broader range of loving people.. i am not sure i can blame all this on the jw expericance.
as children we are taught from our tribe, (family and enviroment, church, school, extended family, neighborhood..........who to love and who not to love.
i used to believe as the witnesses taught, you have to "beat" the evil out of children.. have you ever watched a group of small children unattended?

purps,
Your post is beautiful and reflects my unfolding, "loving" experience with others outside the KH walls. Growing up a JW and fully entrenched with the "us" vs. "them" mentality for a quarter century, it took me many years of fading to stop being "afraid" (based on JW scripts) of ordinary people.
My closest friends today have never been JWs, are deeply spiritual, loving, accepting, and authentic. They have taught me more about love than I ever learned being in the JW culture.
