regardless for how one feels about the situation surrounding terri schiavo, this will be a landmark case in american history, politically, religiously, as well as within the medical profession.
to put this woman to death in the manner for which is being done, is inhumane and ungodly.
criminals on death row are afforded a more deserving death than she has been given.
I disagree with "letting" someone starve to death.
I disagree with JTP's line of reasoning that we wouldn't keep a dog alive by a feeding tube. Why not carry that line of reasoning further and say we wouldn't keep an infant alive by a feeding tube.
We do keep animals and babies and adults alive by feeding tubes and IV's. It is done everyday, whether you are in the room to see it or not.
And nobody is "letting" someone starve to death ! They are removing her ability to eat, thus forcibly killing her ! This could easily be done in prison for those on death row... why don't we ???
Years ago, I lived in the same house with Johnny - a mentally incapable individual with conditions I was too young to understand at the time. His mother would move him, feed him, bath him, change him, and all the rest - day in and day out. He was the equivalent of a 4-6 month old, day after day after day. He was loved and taken care of very well.
Another option --
Is this issue involving the state, since they control the life support? If they are going to stop feeding her, then DISCHARGE HER !!! Her husband will then have the responsibility of taking care of her. Since he does not want to and the parents appear more than willing to accept this burden - Let them.
There is never a clear cut "right" answer when it comes to the preservation of life and/or the lack of preservation. However, there are still choices within these decisions that maintain dignity and honor, not only of the individuals involved, but our society...
I agree that Dr. Kevorkian should be allowed to pursue his beliefs. This too, unfortunately, is a slippery slope. As soon as he is allowed to assist individuals legally, we will have door-to-door con-artists ushering in the latest feel good method to end misery... all the while taking poor souls that happen to be down on their luck, to the financial and emotional cleaners... and eventually to death.
May Terri rest in peace...
and may her last memories be filled with the love that she sought...

i have only been a recent user of this site.
the other night i explained what it was i was spending time reading online some evenings when my boyfriend is out and tried to explain how it is helping me finally let go of the jw beliefs that i have clung to for so long.
i thought he would be pleased, but he got really angry and now is very difficult any time i try to use the internet at home.
Crumpet -
When I first found this site, I was already in the midst of very unsettled times in my marriage. As such, it was looked upon as a threat if I shared my feelings elsewhere.
Unfortunately, my now X was never a JW and stated the opinion that she had gone to a couple meetings so she understood. Unless you have lived it, there is no understanding it.
I wanted desperately to step back and re-evaluate my relationship at the time. However, call it mid-life crisis or what have you, I was unable to pull myself away from atleast reading the many stories and feeling the shared commonality. It brought a sense of sanity and a version of reality to me that was missing for many, many years.
I went so far as to seek counseling for a couple years (still going), as I dug deep into my past to understand the "betrayal" I was feeling and began to cry night after night - not knowing if the tears were because I finally realized I wasn't alone or for the mourning of "who I am" as a result of my upbringing.
It has been a long, very long and difficult process. I still stop in and read all the time, but rarely post - many times due to computer problems, other times due to the inability to express myself. In any case, I can relate to your story and feel for you in your position.
As I look at relationships in the future, it includes getting to know an individuals past and the pain, sorrow, grief, or other unresolved issues in life. If they are willing to talk about them and share, then there is a potential for a relationship. If they simply want to be left alone and "get on with life" and feel I need to follow in the same footsteps, then there is no relationship; only a bonding of some sort other than intimacy; ie insecurities or dependency.
I wish you well with your discussions with your S/O.

(this is tough - my html version of the editor isn't working) .
after reading the recent threads by defd it occurred to me that after 20 years of being out of the borg that i still exhibit some of these traits... someone make it stop - please !!!
1) illusive conversations; not willing to stay on a topic a discuss information.

2) Quick to judge.
Based upon Calamity's picture, you must be married. Well, we all, borg or not, we make judgements upon people when we meet them, talk with them and share. However, there is something unique in the way the borg has taught us to judge people based upon little or no relationship with the individual; prior to any sharing.
2) Only their interpretation of language is accurate.
As in calling Calamity a liar when she said she was a sister. Along the same lines as judging; since Calamity had her interpretation of language that was different, that automatically cast an image of "liar". Again, without some amount of time getting to know someone, the language MUST conform or you are labeled.
3) Just as guilty as they accuse others; yet justifiable and OK.
Unless an individual has a very unique work situation, chatting on a forum through a Fortune 500 internet company is against the company policy. In addition, using that forum for an extended amount of time throughout the day indicates that time charged to building the Saturn that the general public is paying for was actually spent paying for someone to chat on a forum.
4) Socially inept
Lacking the ability to converse about various topics without the feeling of control and/or the need to "play with them". Those clearly lacking in social skills continue bumbling through life without ever getting close to anyone for fear of exposing their deep rooted ineptness.
5) Unwilling to admit wrongdoing; justifiable as an "imperfection"
Individuals that join a forum without reading the guidelines of the forum feel they have some right to claim ignorance of the rules. This doesn't fly in the court of law and typically doesn't fly in real life. If you don't know something, get off your high horse to ask or atleast admit you screwed up, and remedy the situation.
This can only be infered what little information has been provided. It is precisely this reason i would infer this conclusion. Rather than participating in life and feeling the ups and downs, discouraging moments and encouraging friendships, some people would rather hide behind the facade of feeling - allowing an organization to convey to you how you should feel about a topic.
7) No desire or willingness to share themselves or to get close to others
Let's keep this one simple - Tell me one positive attribute, from a personal standpoint, about sensuality... and one negative attribute about who you are as an individual.
As for me... sensuality is the expression of feelings, desires, and needs communicated through the same everyday routines that we normally engage in - yet adds a nuance to the air that fills the spirit of you and your partner... adding laughter from the heart, sadness from the gut, and a look in the eyes of my partner that lets me know that she is happy in life.
I still have a problem with 1-6. This post is just another example of some of these shortcomings. However, I finally realized that if I were perfect and eliminated them all, I would be a chaste, zen monk sitting on a rock watching the world go by... obtaining handouts for food by offering silent, transcedental thoughts... and denying any desire for life...

poor thing, she's had alzheimer's for about 10 years and the last year she's been on hospice care because she's been so close to death.
the past few months she's been slowly filling up with water -- they gave her lasix (not sure of the spelling) to relieve the edema and it worked, sort of.
last weekend she actually looked a little better.
The picture is 7 dolphins... hmmm... took me a while to find them, but they are there.
What do you see in this picture?
after replying earlier today, i realized that i read a few on-line forums for various reasons... besides this one, i also read --.
http://www.seducersworld.com/ :: a very different outlook on social seduction.
reading through this, it shows how individuals are easily persuaded once someone has emotionally engaged you; regardless of their emotional engagement - only the insinuation or inference of such.

http://www.seducersworld.com/ :: A very different outlook on social seduction. Reading through this, it shows how individuals are easily persuaded once someone has emotionally engaged you; regardless of their emotional engagement - only the insinuation or inference of such. It follows how easily these same principles are applied on a grander scale in corporations, religions, and governments.
http://groups.msn.com/NarcissismSupportGroupMoralandSpiritualStruggle/home.msnw and many related links :: During my healing process, I have found that no matter what I say or how I express it ultimately my internal struggle still feels chaotic and unexplainable. This site and related discussions on living with a Narcissist are very insightful and validating concerning these feelings. Although, again, the topics are typically related to social and intimate relationships ( as in marriage or dating ), I have concluded for myself that there is no relationship any more social or intimate than a) the relationship a child is supposed to have with a parent [ I use intimate in the form of emotional closeness and bonding - not sensual or sexual ] and b) our spiritual journey on earth. I was raised by parents that followed the JW line, yet hyporcritically did whatever pleased themselves when nobody (atleast nobody outside the clique) was watching. Thake that relationship and build upon the dynamics of a religion that engages the deepest of emotions (love of our family) in the subtle form of "you shall be shunned if you cross the line"... and you have the makings of being raised, nurtured, and supported in a narcisstic community that only cares about 1 thing -- establishing control.
http://home.earthlink.net/~nlper999/intronlp.html :: No online forums, but a couple of newsletters and lots of sites discussing NLP and Hynosis. This link is an intro for those interested. Again, my search takes me down the slippery slope of "Language"... In contrast, a number of the techniques discussed in these articles are what other people classify as "emotional blackmail"... One of the rare examples of a practitioner in this field whom I don't believe exploited was Milton Erickson, one of the founding fathers of Modern Hypnosis. The research in this area of cognition is extensive and has led to an understanding behind much of the "chinese brainwashing" and other cult style teaching techniques.
http://www.the600club.com/forum.php - A forum for Satanic followers. I find it healthy to maintain contrasting points of views. This site is interesting with respect to unrelated topics such as politics and social phobia. Mostly a younger crowd, but I have met one ExJW on this forum. The language he used when discussing sex hit a nerve, so I emailed and asked... sure enough, he was raised a JW and still struggling with his sexuality. Satanism allows him to combat his demons by swinging the pendulum to the opposite side.
I have also stumbled across a few personal blogs that I enjoy reading -- they seem "real", struggling with career or class decisions, sharing their version of humor, and so on... Someone elses form of self-help and growth.
What forums or online newsletters appeal to you ? and why ?

Hi jgnat... feels good to be here. I signed in the day the server was being moved and just about had a coronary, I thought it was GONE. My 1st thought was Simon moved to Canada -- then I just figured that the big bad WTBTS planted a worm in the core of Simons garden... I knew he would resist all temptations and resurrect this place. Anyway, that will teach me to stay away for too long at a time.
