Happy Birthday again, Nos! (See - now it doesn't even say it's your birthday anymore, and your birthday isn't till tomorrow... )
Hope you have a great party! (And remember it's "Be Kind to Your Liver" Week!)

in light of my birthday tomorrow, i figured i'd tell you all the story of my first birthday party out of the org.
it was a hot, summer day in july.
i had recently come in contact with my half-sister.

jehovah's witnesses must have boundaries to be confined in.
if they want to get out of "the box", they will find themselves out of the organization.
many jws feel that they need such boundaries or else they would be either be in jail or dead.
No, I didn't go wild at all. What I've always admired in decent people, whether JW's or not, is still decency to me. The only behavior I've changed is going to meetings, preparing for meetings, reading JW literature (except to see how wrong it was/is), going in service, associating with JW's.
Other than that, I still feel that immorality is unhealthy and unclean, gambling can be dangerous, smoking and drug use are dangerous, excessive alcohol use is dangerous, dirty jokes are not in any way funny, hurting other people is not funny, seeing others get hurt is not funny, boxing is something to be enjoyed only by vicious demons, astrology and any form of spiritism is dangerous, etc.
But I do continue to view whatever movies I care to, just like before, I read what I want to, just like before. And like many of JW's I still like to cuss at times. I just do it a lot more than they probably do. Never in conversation though. But I'm not particularly proud of that. The words just fit the emotions.
I have finally registered to vote and intend to be more involved in politics now, instead of just holding secret views as in the past as one of JW's.
i knew many people in the congregation that were dealt with terribly.
but most times, people were afraid to talk to the elders or were afraid they might get shunned by the more prominent ones in the congregation.
so they closed their eyes to their own friends being treated poorly and carried on as if nothing really was happening.
I always seem to stick up for someone - but in the congregations, I never knew what was going on; and although I did not have a high opinion of many elders or servants, I actually believed Jesus was the Head of the congregation, and surely He would ultimately see that things were handled correctly. It was very confusing, of course, and discouraging, wondering why Jehovah and Jesus didn't seem to know what they were doing, or care what the brothers and sisters were doing.
But of course, now I get it....
Haunting locales, Celtic. And so now I can't wait to see your Magical Gardens of Trebah in the months to come!
Oh, and you might try to use a little more descriptive language when talking about such beautiful places - why hold back, ya balmpot!
i was raised in 'the truth ' from the age of 9, when my parents came 'into the truth'.
i was the perfect little witness girl, went out in field service - without complaint, gave talks (well the way you do in two's when you are female!
), i was even on the list of people they called on when someone did not turn up to give their talk and would get up with only 30 min prep time!
That is a wonderful account to share as it is so telling about the "real" practices of the Watchtower Organization all over the world. Thanks for sharing it here!
And a very big welcome to the forum!
jeeez, who'd have thought it, you travel for days to the other side of the world, get jetlagged & hang out for a week, then go to do your laundry and... lo an behold i see in the laundrette, my book of bible stories, family happiness, green new world translation, as i recover from the shock and nervous laughter, i ask the african lady working 'who put these books there', she says 'the owner' hmmm, i think, i better not bin them, so i open the my book of bible stories & guess what it says.... "if you like this book please leave your name at the counter.".
ha ha ha.
you can run but you can't hide.. live from africa
Hi dh - glad to see you've landed - hope you enjoy yourself in a perfectly wholesome way, and enjoy the new sights, sounds, activities, and people! Funny what happened in the laundromat - reminds me that my Mom used to kind of complain that "Jehovah's Witnesses were under every rock!"
Mary - what a wonderful eye-opener you related - now that's the kind of balanced experience I'd like to see in one of the JW Yearbooks. A little reality. And it's validating to me too, because I'd always been in poorer congregations, and I was fine (ish) - till I started attending a congregation in a wealthy area. It was like a new religion almost - what a bunch of spoiled brats, and so much more judgmental than the poorer folks I was used to. Stumbled me a little, but I'm sure glad it did!
click on me head you scrumptious balmpots and me head gets bigger.
thought i'd throw caution to the wind and let you all see how beautifully ugly i really am, ruddy friggin hec.
Very nice to see you, Celt!
here is a review of the play "the good faith" and an opportunity to purchase the video.
i highly recommend it.
?new york theatre wire?.
Thanks, Joy, I'll order it for sure - I just got home from work, so just saw your post. I read with fascination Richard Rawe's story on one of the ex-JW sites a month or two ago - thought I'd heard "it all" so to speak, but couldn't believe what was done with this brother!
simply click on any picture to enlarge, it will come up in a separate window.
my apologies, these are not my best, accidentally, in this process i lost some of my best shots from the computer, oh well.
there will be plenty more to follow.
Ahh! Thanks for transporting us to your part of the world! Lovely.
wasn't it funny how many people brought binoculars to these conventions and only used them to check out sister wealthy's new outfit or that really cute guy that you had been eyeing in the corridor during breaktime?.
of course...we told everyone it was to see the "speaker"...(riiiiiiiiiiight!).
