my wife and i met with 3 elders for a "judicial hearing".. our crime: simply put, was talking.
i showed a friend the un website where the wts was listed as an ngo which then led to a 2 hour discussion of various doubts that we both have had.
my wife also showed a friend the un thing but also discussed with her a first hand account of a pedophile cover-up that we knew about in our former congregation.
hey badwillie ! your mention of the inquisition reminded me of watching 'Elizabeth' which starts off with scenes of three protestants being burned alive for heresy - this being the typical fulfilment and the JCs and their cries of 'apostate' being the anti-typical ... the film struck a chord with me and chilled me - reproving and disfellowshipping is a hateful and unchristian crime
anyway, thats not what i was going to say ... sorry for rambling ... my guess is that these 'pure ones' are very much aware of the UN story - probably lurkers and are scared that 'the truth will out'
i understnd your kindness towards them - it's taken me a good six months to get over the guilt of daring to think independantly - and i can primarily thank the good people here - our real brothers and sisters in truth !
cnn reports that the british working with the us in the initial attack.
royal navy submarines have launched a number of cruise missiles to assist with removing the taliban's war fighting capability.. congratulations and a big thank-you to all the sailors of the royal navy.
we in the us thank you and we will remember the help you have given us in the war against the terrorists.
ok well we have a number of demands ... you must immediately bring your american english back into line with the queen's english, for example ...
» color will return to colour
» sneakers will return to trainers
» trunks will return to boots (this is a famous chemist here)
» and any further general referrals to 'you english' will become 'you british' - cos some of us are welsh !
years ago i studied with a couple, that told me of an elder that studied with them years before.. they were having marital discord at the time and this elder was famous for finding demon posessed objects.. so this elder while conducting his study and talking about their marital problems asked them if perhaps they may have inadvertently brought home a demon posessed object, and that this was the cause of their domestic problems.. well they went through their whole apartment with this elder to see if they could find anything, but were unsucessfull.
finally when in the kitchen the elder said he felt strange and that something in the kitchen must be causing it, they looked and looked but nothing.. but when the elder touched the walls of the kitchen, he felt the presents of something there on the walls that could be the causing of their problems.
so they dung into the wall of the kitchen and found that it was painted over a couple layers of old wall paper.. guess what was one of the pictures they found on one of the layers of wall paper?.
are devilled mushrooms bad too ?
several years prior to the release of the first edition of "the watchtower library" in england on cd rom in 1994, the society made an announcement that back-issues of bound volumes of the watchtower and awake would be available (for sale) by ordering through the literature desk.. many in the congregation had wanted a complete library of watchtowers for years and there was a frenzy of orders placed.
i, myself, ordered the complete collection.. however, upon receiving news of the cd rom becoming available, i wondered just why the society had made so many old re-prints available when they must have known about the future release of the cd.. this also coincided with the rules changing in england for the charging / donating for literature and i distictly remember a talk by an elder saying how much we should donate for the cd through the new donation process... something like "a comparible encylopedia on cd rom would cost 30 to 40 in the shops - so how much do you think we should donate for this treasure of god-given knowledge".. it just struck me that the literature sell-off was a last ditch attempt at making money, for fear that the cd rom combined with the new donation programme would spell disaster for the societys income.. any thoughts?.
i need a more recent copy of the cd rom if anyone has one?
hey ballistic - my recollection of events around the vulgarly-fast reissue of bound volumes matches yours perfectly - i remember not being able to afford them and seeing all the 'better-off' brothers collecting stacks of new sets every few weeks ...
as for OhHappyDay and the green-black-reference sequence - YES ! - i came in just after the green phase and thought the green bibles were especially for kids as so many had them ...
you have to hand it to the society though - they are masters of marketing - make the premier league and their three-strips-a-year teams seem like amateurs ...
well, i started today.... christmas shopping!
i have been waiting a long time for this pleasure and i couldn't wait another day!
well, it is only 12 weeks to go!!!
hey IW :)
i am with you here sister ! we've had christmas for the last two years - got loads of green stuff we wrap around the bannisters with twinkling lights hidden amongst it - disappears all the way upstairs and looks soooooo cool - elders can see it through the leaded lights on the front door but what the hell ! ...
what i really really want to do this year is go to a very big cathedral and hear some live choral music - Handel or even better, some music i've recently discovered - Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine ... i hear Chichester Cathedral do some cool gigs ...
thanks for conveying the excitement i am already beginning to feel too ...
browsing through the watchtower of 1st november and i was reading the story of russell kurzen.
on page 23, there's a picture of him with albert schroeder, eduardo keller and fred franz.. your thoughts on this plz - is it a softening of attitude ?
i would have thought it (policy wise) would have been inappropriate for them to, in a sense, acknowledge mr franz as a 'brother'.
sheesh ! .. thought it was a little weird ...

Browsing through the Watchtower of 1st November and I was reading the story of Russell Kurzen. On page 23, there's a picture of him with Albert Schroeder, Eduardo Keller and Fred Franz.
Your thoughts on this plz - is it a softening of attitude ? I would have thought it (policy wise) would have been inappropriate for them to, in a sense, acknowledge Mr Franz as a 'brother'. Am I being cynical in thinking that, with digital technology, the picture could have been revised, as is so with many other aspects of Watchtower history ?
you begin to respect other peoples opinions more...even that fred guy..... .
you begin to appreciate the world more ... and the variety of it all.
you feel special.
hey presto ... n ... this is that new kind of poetry right - the kind that sounds good, doesn't rhyme and nobody understands ? ... ahem ... then how come i understand it ? ... ty ...
hey c'mon - doesn't anyone get the joke here - 'you know' is the 'devils advocate' - he is no more an active jw than any of us .... i have a similar 'alter-ego' on a work-based site i visit - call myself 'stzak' and i am a self righteous overtly religious bigot !
... does this sound familiar ?
- my guess is that 'you know' is an apostate, and is having a fantastic time winding everyone up and ... gulp ... we swallowed it ...
