Jen, I don't know anything about your situation, but I wish you well and hope you have some type of support system. I totally agree with Gary, don't reward them if they do decide to start the shunning. When I first learned about this evil practice of shunning loved one, it disturbed me so much that I couldn't sleep. Agnes

Re: they also said that the Dubs are the "happiest people on earth", which carries more bullshit than a farm in Oklahoma.......
Happiest people on earth...rubbish! So true Mary! The last time we had JW relatives visit I was shocked to see such miserably unhappy looking people! Two of them shared that they were self medicating to deal with stress and assumed I'd be interested in using what they were taking. I'm not a JW and I don't have to medicate to be happy. Agnes

Did you ever have to change phone number because of the JW's?
by JH in.
often, i changed phone number in the past, so that they wouldn't bother me.
i remember being active and going to the meetings, but i still wanted none of them to have my phone number, knowing i would one day be inactive.. how about you, ever change phone number because of them?.

Agnes
Not a JW, but have pesky family members who are. Haven't had to change the phone number, but have changed email address and didn't give them the new one. It has been such a relief to not have to hear all the garbage and some are too cheap to call long distance. Agnes

GIVE A GOOD WITNESS---------------
by vitty in"give a good witness" today i made an effort to wave to my neighbour, not because i particularly wanted to or like him, but had a feeling i needed to "prove how nice i was or to give a good witness" .
habits die hard, this follows on from the guilt thread.
i still feel that *i put on a front, i cant be myself, in case i do or say something that could bring reproach, what the hell on i dont know i havent been to a meeting for over a year no one here knows i was a witness.

What about the notion that going out of your way to be friendly might make the other person feel good. I don't think the effort is always put forth to make ourselves feel good. Agnes

Would you go to a funeral at the Kingdom Hall?
by Dustin inso my brother and i have been having talks about what will happen when our dad passes away eventually.
most of his brothers and sisters have died in their 50's or early 60's.
i flat out refuse to attend any part of the service that would be done at the kingdom hall.
-
Agnes
I would not. I saw a video of a funeral taken at a Kingdom Hall and was so disappointed that the wonderful person that had died had not been eulogized the way this person deserved to be. It was cold, boring, and not about the deceased. I would have a personal memorial service with people that cared about the person and remember them properly. Agnes

What kind of a response would I get if I asked the JW's at my door
by Agnes in.
to explain theocratic warfare?

Thank you all for your responses. Rebel 8, very interesting information. It is pretty clear that the deception is intentional, and I do agree that not all or many JW's would know this information. My family members do know what the term means and use it accordingly. Agnes

Thanks for all of your very interesting responses. This subject just drives me up the wall. It is hard to fathom that a
cultreligion would really encourage it's members to lie or shut down instead of anwering a simple question. Have family members that were once honest people until they became JW's and now find it so easy to lie. I don't intend to offend anyone...just venting. Agnes -

Why would someone who has disassociated allow their child to be taken to KH
by Agnes ini just read the listeners post about baptisms at the district conventions and didn't want to disrupt the thread.
i'm curious, why would someone allow their child to attend the kh or district convention and possibly be pressured into getting baptized?

Agnes
Thank you all for your input. Let me start off by saying this was a question....not a judgement. Secondly, this is not the spouse taking the child, but the young woman's parents. The child is 7 years old and doesn't know what the risks are.
It just seems to me that if a person is dissallusioned enough to disassociate themselves, that they would certainly not want to risk their children becoming involved in a cult that might one day encourage them to shun them. I know that these situations are complex and I certainly don't know all of the details, but it bothers me nonetheless. Agnes
