Well, my own experience with the JWs I know points to, yes. The JWs I know borrow from everyone and yet won't acknowledge our existence otherwise. When our JW relatives visit, they seem to have a real sense of entitlement, in that they never offer to pay for anything. And, to make matters worse is their air of superiority. I don't mind helping out a relative, friend or neighbor, but the buck stops as soon as I feel taken advantage of. Agnes

Dinner guest- When you bring wine shouldn't they offer you some?
by Witness 007 ini've gone to many a witness dinner where i would bring one or two nice wines, hoping we would have some with dinner.
{to numb the boring conversations} only, to find the couple say "thanks" put it in the cabnet....and serve up lemonade..... and it's not an alcohol thing....two different brothers brought out there own "home made" vino instead, which taste like a mixture of fruit punch and vineger!

Anne has it right. The wine is a gift and the host/hostess shouldn't feel pressured to serve it. They have gone through the effort of planning the occasion, menu and beverages of choice. They may have intentionally chosen not to serve alcoholic beverages and that should choice should be respected. Agnes P.S. very nice of you to bring a gift.

Loss of privileges when family member is disfellowshipped
by Agnes inif a family member is disfellowshipped (for example a son or a daughter) what sort of "privileges" would a family lose?
would they still be permitted to have bible studies in their home, go out in field service and would they be marked as bad association?

I'm not a witness, but my relatives are. The daughter is an adult, lives in the home and has been disfellowshipped for her involvement with worldly men. We were wondering what changes might be in store for the rest of the family. Thank you for all your feedback. Agnes

Questions about the rules of marriage
by Agnes ini have a couple of questions for you.
1. can a witness (in good standing) remarry if his or her spouse (also in good standing) dies ?
2. can a witness who is married to a non-witness, divorce and re-marry, if he/she for example is an abusive alcoholic?
-
Agnes
Thank you all for your responses and clearing that up for me. It's hard to imagine that a good person would be denied the opportunity to be happy, once they've extricated themselves from an abusive relationship. Agnes

Don't waste your pity on those of us who are choosing to live an intentional and fulfilled life, instead of following a script that was written for us. If you are really part of "the true religion" did you ever ask yourself why you are so angry?

Letter To My Parents - Please Offer Critique! Thanks!
by deaconbluez indear mom & dad,.
heres the stuff that i said i would send concerning the 587/607bce issue, as well as some other stuff that you requested dad.
the archeological/astronomical stuff is probably going to come across as very boring, but it is truly a help in settling the 587/607bce issue.

Would you help JW family members?
by greendawn inif your jw family members were hurt by someone physically, or financially (ripped off), emotionally or otherwise would you feel sympathy for them and help them?
-
Agnes
I would help a stranger who had been hurt physically which is more than I can say for my JW neigbors who did nothing when one of my family members was recently hurt and an ambulance came to our home. They were home, but didn't peek out their doors, call, or ever mention it!
I would have to give some careful consideration to helping any of them financially. Agnes
