When growing up, I didn't tell people I was a JW but I lived in a small community so it was pretty easy to discern with me going to meetings & service all the time. Now, when people get into a religious conversation with me, I do mention it because it gives them a background on my views...I consider it a life experience and although it is painful I still consider it something that is rightfully mine to tell others. Besides, telling other people about it will prevent them from getting wrapped up in it...

Sheesh, I didn't know that a proposal as silly as this would get so much attention...no country in the world would condone this anyway. I wonder if people out there actually believe that the UN would approve that resolution...

"Immortal Soul" - A Watchtower Doctrine!
by Stephanus inin my 25 years or so in "christendom" i've been to many different churches in different denominations and have heard hundreds, perhaps thousands, of sermons.
in all that time i have never heard the term "immortal soul" used, not even once.
yet the jws go on (and on, and on!

As far as I know -- all of Christendom and Islam believe in Hell -- and they believe it to be fiery -- so what you say is not quite true
Not true...from my reading up on different religions such as Catholicism, Hell to them is the same as what JWs believe: eternal death. They explain that Hellfire was just a metaphor for the torment of being seperated from God's grace (even though, if you are dead, you wouldn't know anyway). Some Catholic scholars still teach the classic Hellfire doctrine but most go for the more 'sensible' explanation. I can't speak for Islam though....

CALL TO ACTION: Write the United Nations!
by seattleniceguy inmost of us are familiar with the watchtower bible and tract society's association with the un as an ngo.
this fact has been confirmed via correspondence with the un numerous times, notably in a letter received recently by one of our own members.
for details and photocopies, see here:.

I think that we are handling this in the wrong way...we should be writing the media and not the United Nations. Think about it: why hasn't a news program like 60 Minutes or 20/20 done a segment on this yet? I remember when a program did a segment on the child abuse issue and many Witnesses didn't know about that...imagined if a news magazine did a segment on the UN scandal. I wonder who we would have to write to for that...

``New Things Learned:" Cookie-Cutter Assembly Halls?
by Room 215 injust got a glance at wifey's latest two kingdom ministry letters she left lying around.
i see now that the boys in brooklyn/patterson have now decided ``one size fits all" is the best way to go when erecting future assembly halls; they've standardized the look.
a cost-saving ploy no doubt.

They have been moving towards this for a long time...look at any recent Kingdom Hall and there might be slight differences but most of the major architectural designs are the same. So utilitarian & ugly IMO...plus, not enough windows (what is up with that?).

Not only does he have to live down the stigma of being a pervert in the public's eye but also among the JW's (if he chooses to stay a JW)...it is better to investigate all claims like this of course but it is so saddening when the person could be innocent and has to go through this...

Is Bait and switch the tactic used to recruit converts into the org?
by fearnotruth22 inthe world is commo=ing to an end!
this systenm wont last but a few years!
you can live forever after god destroys the wicked!

We're not here to convert you, we just want to talk about the bible.
Right there is the best answer to this question. For an organization that styles meetings among millions of converts and gears one meeting specifically around how to best conduct studies to convert people, that quote shows how used to lying the organization is.

Did you count them yourself or did you have someone else do it for you? I think you miss counted. You better do a recount just to make sure. So I guess that Jesus was wrong in approving a child getting milk from its mother. But of course you are much smarter than Jesus himself right? Finally we found someone who is smarter than the Son of God.
Well, I don't remember Jesus telling anyone to abstain from blood transfusions. Of course, James latered mentioned abstaining from eating blood but science has established that blood acts like a carrier (it doesn't nourish the body like food and a transfusion is just like an organ transplant). Plus, Paul's comments on conscience at Romans 8 (involving a situation that James also advised Christians to avoid) shows that James' previous warning wasn't actually a commandment (like the WTBTS makes it). So, no one is saying that they are smarter then Jesus...just smarter then the current Governing Body's stance on the matter.

by acsot ini've already exited the jws in mind and heart, and have read many comments from everyone about the book, so didn't really see the need to buy it for myself.

Joker10, why are you trolling the thread if you have no intention of buying the book, looking for it in a library, or accepting a free copy? Would you trust Commentary Press itself with your address? If not, then leave the thread because you can't have a valid opinion on a book without ACTUALLY READING THE BOOK.
