Witness Speak
by Flash inwhat controlling statements or questions do you remember hearing or using most?
my all time favorite is, "isn't this god's organization?
and shouldn't we obey god's organization??

The one phrase that irks me the most these days is what every Witness seems to say when I tell them I disassociated myself: How do you think Jehovah feels? How can you turn you back on him?
I feel like pimp-slapping them for saying that...how they can be so arrogant as to say that I am turning my back on God just because I don't believe that a book publisher in NYC is his organization is beyond me...

In The End----What Will JWD Be Known For?
by minimus inwhen h2o and a few other boards were around, a few years back, they all became known for something unique.
h2o was where you went to see some great debates and really learn how to disprove the "truth".
randy's site was one of the first places that gave snippets of all the local ex and jw gossip, for the week.

This board is sort of a therapy for me...without it, I actually do think I wouldn't have the will to break away from the WTS. If anything, apart from the other ex-JW sites, I know this as a place where I see real personal experiences of former Witnesses that I can correspond with.

How long did it take you to stop being afraid of the demons?
by doodle-v inwe all know that the wts continous to spew nonsense about "satan and his hordes" and how they are always on the prowl trying to attack loyal dubs and stear them away from the troof.
my parents are hard core dub zealots still very much in the org.my mom will not hesitate to toss an inanimate object in the garbage if she suspects that it is "possesed".
so when you left, how long did it take you to shake the fear of them big bad deeeemunz?

Anyone remember the days when DISCO RECORDS were thought to be demonized??
Nah, but I do remember the 'great' pictures used for Awake magazines to show how Rock & Rap music could lead to being in concert with the demons...anyone have pics of that? Usually it was just a bad picture of a Rock concert....

Jack rabbits who are possessed and raping people...WTF?
I thought I had heard everything when someone told me that someone had gotten a Mickey Mouse bank from a 'worldly' yard sale and soon their bed was levitating and that there were strange voices in the house...

Young People Ask... ANSWERS THAT SUCK.
by shamus inremember that stupid book that they had, "young people ask, answers that work are weird?
minimus just mentioned it in a thread.... they have that young people ask section in the awake!
magazines.

Yea, I think there isn't one former JW kid who wasn't scarred by the 'humble' advice given in that book. And after reading the chapter on masturbation, you would think that you were killing something ever time you even thought of an 'immoral' situation.

Ever Seen The Movie 'Blast From The Past'?
by cypher50 inyou know, the one where brandon fraser grows up in a bomb shelter and finally comes out after so many years to a world totally new to him (like some modern day rip van winkle)?
that is how i feel right now except i simply got out of a religion.... i am not totally clueless; i fortunately was allowed to do most of the normal things that kids do while growing up (play videogames, watch all the tv shows i wanted [including smurfs] & listen to the music i liked) so i am not a total square.
however, i am 24 next month and yet i am out of 'friends' & relatives to hang out with (they ditched when i da'ed) and i have only made two true friends outside of meetings/school/work in my whole life.

However, I am 24 next month and yet I am out of 'friends' & relatives to hang out with (they ditched when I DA'ed) and I have only made two true friends outside of meetings/school/work in my whole life. I hate dancing (something always feels uncomfortable about it) so clubs are out for me...I can definitely drink with the best of them but I can't see what else is fun about the bar scene...so what is there for people like me to do? What is even worse is that I have absolutely no 'social' skills in so far as starting conversations with people I don't know (unless I am supposed to peddle some magazines...then I am a master!)...that isn't something that someone at my age should be going through and it is even more painful because I am aware of that.
Don't get me wrong (to those who are lurking), I wouldn't go back to being a Witness for anything. I have peace of mind now that I have never had...I don't worry about 'worldly' people anymore or about so many dear friends & relatives who aren't Witnesses dying in some horrible 'great tribulation'. Plus, I have so much more freedom exploring my spirituality...it is just that now I feel really deserted right now and I have no idea not only how to find new friends but I have no idea how to have fun. Hell, I am even clueless on how to get a girlfriend...but that can actually wait. Right now, I just see a need to build up a social life and I am so frustrated because I don't know how...anyone here who went through something even close to this? I doubt that someone might be able to relate but you never know.

Reasons for Moving to Wallkill ?
by robhic ini read a while back about selling the brooklyn facility and moving the printing operations to wallkill (???).
i know it's all about money for the wts, but what reasons did they give for actually going through this involved, expensive process when, bottom line, the end is soon and everything is gonna be killed and destroyed?
why not just "wait on jehovah?".

Although Sullivan County (I believe that is the county that the farm lies in....could be Orange though) doesn't love the Society because of its tax-free status, Wallkill offers much more expansion opportunity then Brooklyn and less 'diversions' for the brothers & sisters who
slavework there. Also, like another poster mentioned, the Society has realized that the Brooklyn property is prime real estate that can be sold for quite a pretty sum. -

Are You Still Torn, Wondering Whether You Made The Right Decision To Leave?
by minimus inare you 100% sure you're doing the right thing??
?

I just wish that I had been more diplomatic in telling my mom so I could get her to listen to the things I learned about the Society...otherwise, hell no. In fact, I wished I had done this back in high school before I got caught up & baptized.

Will there be winter in the new system?
by Atilla inso much snow this winter, but it reminds me of the silly conversations we would have out in service about conditions in the new system.
this one guy, who thought he knew everything because he had been to bethel and had been pioneering since the 9th grade, was positive that there would be no winter in the new system.
his reasoning was that since the whole earth would be made into a paradise with perfect conditions, there would be no real cold places like russia or even central pennsylvania.

I hate people who try to 'prove' idiocy like this...he doesn't even take into account that many feel that winter is a beautiful time of year. I for one love watching snow cover everything in site...he probably also thinks that it won't rain in the 'new system'.
Boy, I have only disassociated myself a month & a half ago and I am already laughing at the craziness that I discussed while I was a Witness.
