I always wondered what people who were my age and into the same stuff (geeks in other words) thought about JWs and that whole thread of comments is an awesome synopsis I what I always thought. I will continue to read the whole thing because I find that the less serious I take my past JW life means the easier I find dealing with my immediate JW family now.

JW is caught swearing on PEOPLE'S COURT
by carefully faded ini'm watching people's court right now while i'm surfing the net.
and perked up when i heard the words "kingdom hall".
turns out the plaintiff, an elderly woman, is a jw and mentioned during her testimony that she was on the way to kingdom hall when her car started knocking and making noises.

Even if I was a JW I wouldn't think this would be a big deal...I mean, it is human nature to be pissed if something on your car is ****ing up . Then again, from what I read here, not every JW would think the same way I do...

You know you're from New Jersey when..........
by Soledad inyou've been seriously injured at action park.
you know that the only people who call it "joisey" are from new york (usually the bronx) or texas.
you don't think of citrus when people mention "the oranges.

I grew up in the NY/PA/NJ Tri-State area (Orange County) and picked up on most of those. The Action Park one is especially poignant since I had a couple of friends who got severe "road rash" from going down the Alpine Slide without a shirt...

who remembers their first day at school
by tijkmo ini remember mine...it was in the days when all pupils gathered daily for a service to start the day even though it was not a religious school...anyway my sister had started the same school the previous year and my parents had informed the school that she would not be attending the daily service..not a problem..except for some reason they assumed that because i was the same surname the school would make the connection that i wasnt to go into service...but they didnt and so i found myself right at the front of the hall on my first day not even 5 years old in my new blazer and short trousers with all the other pupils behind me knowing i shouldnt be there..so i started crying..and first my teacher came to see what was wrong but quickly got frustrated because i couldnt explain myself..so she smacked me for crying and kept smacking me to get me to stop crying and then got the headmistress to smack me to get me to stop crying until eventually time was up and they had to cancel the service.....result...still loved school though...tijkmo

Actually, I grew up in a very understanding school system (partly because their were so many JWs in Orange County, NY...wonder why...LOL) so my first day was good. I only had to deal with the flag issue but that was no big deal...I do remember saying "I HAVE TO GO AGAIN?!" when my mom told me that it wasn't just a one day thing.

JW's are not Christians
by Witch Hunter ini've noticed on this forum that a fair few ex-jw's still refer to the members of the non-christain cult known as the jehovah's witneses as christians.
im aware that current members may wrongly believe they are in fact christians because the organisation leads them to believe they are serving god.
but for ex-members who are awake to the false teachings of this non-christain organisation, i thought they may be more prudent in their choice of words, and not refer to them as christians.

I think you are missing the difference between using the term "Christian" and someone's beliefs. By dictionary definition, a Christian is just someone who professes a belief in Jesus Christ being the Son of God...whether you believe in the Trinity or the JW version, if you still believe that Jesus is the Son Of God then you are a Christian. That is why there are so many different teachings & sects of Christianity and yet they are all still called "Christians"...
BTW, the Trinity isn't an "essential" teaching of Christianity but rather an essential teaching of certain sects (like Catholicism)...there are certain Protestant sects who do not teach the Trinity.

Believe in 607 BCE or you are not one of Jehovah's Witnesses
by VM44 inif a jw states that 607 bce is incorrect, how long will it take before the elders announce from the platform to the congregation that the person is "no longer one of jehovah's witnesses"?

What if you were kicked out for not accepting a teaching that they later admitted was wrong. Do you get to come back?
Only if you show that you are repentant about not accepting the false teachings that were accepted at the time...you see, it doesn't matter that your perspective was right because you dared to go against the organization itself.
...
This s**t would be funny if it wasn't true.

A comment I heard tonight
by Generic Man intonight i heard one of the most cruel and twisted comments i've ever heard at the platform.
the topic was the apocalypse and whether or not children will be slaughtered.
through one side of his mouth, the po stated that the bible is not clear on the matter, while out the other side he pointed to all those old testament accounts where children were killed.

Schizm, weren't you just chastising Pwned for being immature? Nice comeback though, I see you like to deal with a situation in a firm but subtle manner.

What they paint is true to the picture. Armageddon isn't gonna be a pretty thing. So what's your beef?
You say that the organization doesn't condone its members finding glee in those dying at Armeggedon but the WTS has so many images of people dying in Armeggedon and they are some of the most elaborate pictures the organization has produced...in fact, most of the Tribulation pictures look much more detailed then the ones they make for Paradise. If the organization doesn't condone its members looking forward to the "goats" dying during Armeggedon then why make such grand images? To scare people into repenting (which is not the way to find true believers)?

that just killed me when the loving brothers would make comments such as 'cant you just wait until armageddon so god will destroy (insert random person)', or if someone was rude on service they come back to the group and laugh about they will get theirs when god destroys them, pretty sadisitic
Yea, I've heard the same thing before from some brothers and I probably even said something like that in jest before...it wasn't until I was in my late teens that I gained pity for those who yelled at me in service & such. BTW, Schizm, Pwned didn't mention the WTS but I will say one thing: for an organization that doesn't condone the attitude displayed in that post by Pwned, the WTS sure likes to be very colorful & dramatic in its images of when Armeggedon is happening.
I hate when people say that it is for God to judge or that the bible isn't clear on something and then they give their opinion on the matter as if it is fact...

If the WT were to "reform" would you stay or go back?
by confusedjw inthis thought has sprung from recent threads and speculation over the new book.
i know many who post here are still active jw's or ones who were df'd, but may have not totally left the belief system.
many have trouble with the methods and policies of the wt concerning dfing, restrictions, blood, local elders etc.

No, since leaving I have had peace in being able to admit that I might not have all the answers about how this universe was made & where it is going. I feel sadness in that the way my life as a JW ended also purged from me the ability to look at any religion without cynical eyes....
