Anti-JW billboard in front of assembly hall would be great

my brother and i were talking about how great it would be to put up a billboard on the major highway where our local assembly hall is located.

the billboard would be simple and maybe look like this:.

for the truth about the troof.

Hey Atilla,

That would be cool! If you got 1000 people to sign up and chip in, it wouldn't be too bad. Then whenever a new person came out, they could chip in too, and we could build the network of billboards. Soon, we'd have billboards in every major city in America!

Hey, wait: I've got a great idea. How about we do some Greenpeace-style demonstrations. Like, project a giant "billboard" onto the side of the 124 Columbia Heights building at night! I wonder if there are any laws about that....Of course, that never stops Greenpeace....

My heart is ripped out !!

Hello Puternut,

I really feel for you. I've only recently come out of the organization myself, and I went through a couple months during which I found it difficult to find the desire to do much of anything, even eat. I don't have any real words of wisdom, except that for me, reading and talking to people in the community helped.

I also found it exciting and liberating to do things I wasn't allowed to do before. I went to a yoga class. I went to a "worldly" party. I got involved in politics. In a lot of ways, the ex-JW is trying to figure out who they are and what they like to do. It's like we're newborns in the world. Sometimes it feels like I'm impossibly behind everyone else, but it also means that there are a lot of new experiences out there.

Hang in there. You have a lot of friends here who are wishing you the best. My thoughts are with you.

Mars Spirit rover is communicating again!!!

it's not back 100%... but at least it is transmitting again.

it recently sent 20 minutes worth of data at 120 bits per second... let see here... that comes out to 144,000 bits.

i'm convinced that jehover had something to do with it!

Maybe it's in Safe Mode.

What a relief, though. I hope they can figure it out and get back a higher transmission rate. Or maybe we'll just have to forgo those expensive pictures and concentrate on experiment data. At any rate, hooray for the NASA guys and gals!

what's interesting is that if you view the figures for both, the wts site gets a lot of visits from people (big name) who then view very few pages.

Weird...these stats are calculated based on alexa toolbar users? How many people actually use that?

I was wondering about this too. I'm sure it's something like the Nielson rating system. They get a sampling - hopefully a demographically complete one - to use the toolbars and extrapolate the stats for all web users. SNG

Did You Know Any Particularly Weird Witnesses???

i know some will say all witnesses are weird but i'm thinking of the real weird ones.

you know, the type that you used to run away from when they would approach you to say hello in the kingdom hall.

i know of one strange guy that looked like a pervert/child molester.

In the town where I grew up, there was this old brother, must have been mid-60's or so. He was really weird. Always claimed to be ex-CIA or something. Said he had a blackbelt in like 20 different martial arts. I remember one of his fingernails was curled all up, so it looked like a claw. Kind of a wacky, scary sort of guy.

In the same hall was a 19-year-old sister. Very homely, kind of dull personality. Nice, I suppose, but she just seemed a bit vacant. Well, imagine our surprise when the two eloped one day. Got married at the Justice of the Peace. They were over 40 years apart. Ugh.

What does "Kaze Wo Atsumete" mean?

Is that a line from the movie? It's kind of meaningless without context. It's not a full sentence, but it means "Gather the Wind" either as a polite imperative, or as a sentence fragment (like, "Gathering the wind, she something-something-something."). Sounds like the name of a song or something.

nowisee: I presume you're talking about the scene where the director is talking to Bill Murray's character and the interpreter gives incredibly short translations? I can't remember the exact words, but it's something like this....

Director (in Japanese): Look, this commercial is not about whiskey. It's about the experience you have with it. I want you to sit down as if you're meeting with an old friend, one you've known for years. You slip into your old, comfortable chair, pick up the whiskey, and drink in the experience. I want to feel the familiarity. (He goes on for a few more paragraphs here. His speech is quite impassioned, and it's good stuff, too. I was pretty impressed with what the commercial meant to him. But....)

Interpreter (in accented English): More...energetic!

This happens a couple more times, and every time, the interpreter misses the point with outrageous success. There was certainly a great deal "lost in translation" during that scene.
