..and then sought to justify your leaving the organisation/religion by researching websites like this (to salve your conscience, justify continuing in your pleasurable but unscriptural lifestyle), or did you sincerely leave purely because you discovered certain false teachings, scandals, etc, while still living a moral, christian lifestyle?
be honest now, i mean really honest.
(this is not meant to offend anyone but viewed like a survey).
My sin was lying to myself in a desperate attempt to convince myself the organization was true.
When I got honest and accepted the facts, I left.

hi everyone just a question to satisfy my curiosity , and if you are a non believer are you happier for being so
Thank God I'm an atheist.
No, but seriously, I wouldn't say I stopped believing in God so much as I stopped furiously trying to convince myself of something that just wasn't true. You know why fundamentalist Christians struggle with doubt? It's because they know deep down that there are serious problems in their worldview. Doubt is your rational mind saying, "Now, hold on for a second. That doesn't add up." Spending your life trying to wish those problems away is complete vanity.
In my life now, I accept reality as it really is, or as close as I can tell. I don't have to try to wrap my own tiny worldview around the rest of the universe. I can be open and honest with the people and concepts around me. Life is a million billion times better here.

i'm moving on.
i want to express my gratitude to members here who have steered me right when my own compass was stuck.
i know i didn't put much effort into becoming friends with many of you and i'm sure that i'm the loser for it.
PeacefulPete,
Just wanted to say good luck in all your future endeavors. I've enjoyed your posts thoroughly over the years I've read this board. If you ever get out to Seattle, drop me a PM!

for all of you non-religionists out there: do you consider yourself an agnostic or atheist, and why?
it seems many ex-jws that "loose the faith" have a tendency to go straight for atheism.
i myself, would consider myself more of an agnostic, as i believe we have no real way of knowing if there is a god one way or the other, and it tends to seem just as extreme to me, to insist that there is not one.
Atheist here.
I also think there is little meaningful difference between the terms agnostic and atheist, unless you define agnostic as someone who positively believes that God exists and then positively believes that it is impossible to know him/her/them/it. Like various posters have already said in this thread, atheism is simply a-theism. I don't believe in God. If God personally revealed itself to me in some verifiable way, of course that belief would change. But as it stands, I don't believe in God, in the same way that I don't believe in leprechauns. Nothing against leprechauns - I'm just highly skeptical that they are real.
For me, atheism means honesty and openness to diverse explanations of the universe. (That doesn't mean I accept any old explanation, but I am able to evaluate it without filtering it though my preconceived God-view.) It also means I've got to be a good, responsible citizen, because I can't just invoke God to fix things. The way I see it, if God does exist, great! I'd have a lot of questions for him/her/them/it. But until such time as that becomes evident, we need to take care of things ourselves and be decent humans of our own initiative.

the biologist being quoted - michael behe, is typical of a certain type of christian, whose faith appears to be incapable of surviving a challenge that cannot easily be explained away or understood.. he argues about the nonsense of the idea of vestigial organs, using as an example such an organ that has now been found to have a function.. he omits an explanation of certain blind cave fish, with perfectly formed eyes, but no optic nerve, or those where the eye is enclosed inside the skull with no eye sockets to admit light.

some of the pictures are little screwed up because of the scan resolution, but it's all readable.
hope you enjoy.. .
Wowsers. My favorite quote in the article so far is:
In my view it is a failure of nerve to back away from something that is so strongly indicated by the evidence simply because YOU think the conclusion has unwelcome philosophical implications.
LOL. This ought to get a few minds a-thinking.

i just watched the wgn- chicago evening news.
i was so moved by the segment on the gates foundation.
bill and melinda gates have already donated 10 billion dollars to charity.
Gates better start hustling those WTs or he's toast.
LOL. That's a pretty funny image. I can see it now. He'd try to deliver it on a 2-lb handheld device running the full version of Windows XP, and when no one bought it, they'd do market research and conclude that the technology wasn't ready yet, but it would really just be because nobody wanted the stupid literature.
But hey, Microsoft and WTS - it could be great. Their motto could be, "What don't you want to do today?"

i'm not kidding.
it has been less than two weeks since i discussed with an elder some of the problems i had about the wts.
