I could only find one article from the early 70's about the towers, mainly dealing with its construction, purpose, etc . . . but one thing I have noticed in many of the Armageddon illustrations, (ou know the terrifying ones with people falling into holes in the earth and killing eachother) in the background or dead center. In fact in one of them from years prior to 9-11 depicted a 747 flying infront of it. Weird.

one of the biggest regrets a person might have is that they let their children become involved in the whole jw "thing".
you know---everything from the elders always cornering them to "investigate" something or even having the parents "turn in" their own kids......is there anything that you especially regret?
That I was not "ENCOURAGED" to get an education because "ARMEGEDDON" was always "just around the corner", we were always living on "the threshold of the new system of things", so there is no point to it, right?
Well, shit, here I am 36 years later, and I was never supposed to have turned 18 in this system of things.
I now often "encourage" my kids to get a good education and make the circumstances right for them to attend college. I tell them if they do not get an education, they will have to be broke, ignorant and stupid right up until the end comes in 2034.
I also regret that I was compelled to bring my x-wife into "The Truth". It brainwashed her, she turned it against me and our children and became a stark raving fanatical lunatic who lies 50x more now than she did when she was "worldly".

it seems to me that you hear alot less about satanists having problems, than you do witnesses!
i think most of the elders relied on the "smart ones" to help them out.
my experience was that there was probably 2 or 3 "sharp ones".
the rest were dopey!
As a kid, in the afore mentioned infamous now dissolved due to rampant spiritual sickness WINTER GARDENS CONGREGATION, most of the elders were shallow and unfocussed, paying only surface attention to the needs of the congregation, often being part of the scandals themselves.
It was like: being an elder in that congregation was equivalent to getting to sit at the "cool kids' table".

Yes, I do really like myself.
I have been through major bouts of guilt, depression, doubt and fear caused by a lifetime of shite dumped on me by hyppocritical and fanatical JW friends and family, and I have never had more love and respect, or lovable friends than since I left the org. Wow! What a difference a good spiritual enema makes!
One day, when i was a teen, while succumbing to an emotional melt-down over the crap heeped on me by a lune JW family member, I said to an elder with clentched teeth and tear dimned eyes, just hoping for some kind of encouragement or support, " I am so tired of feeling guilty . . . "
He replied, " Well, stop doing things to feel guilty for . . . "
Well, no matter what I am going through, no matter how I might want to feel, no matter what anyone ever did or said to me, that is the past, and I refuse to let anyone make me feel bad or not like myself, simply because of their f'd up judgements or preferences.

my cousin and his best friend, both named joe, were elders, my cousin was the po and the other joe was a total loser suck up who wanted to be just like my cousin, joe.
what was even funnier, as i get off point a bit, is that "suck up" joe's wife, cathy, did everything she could do to get her pudgy lil self to dress, look, walk, and talk like my cousin joe's wife, clementine.
I just has an after thought . . . and it hurts the first time.

It may be funny because your out and stuff .. but have you spared a thought to how using the word gay in that context makes young gay ppl feel when they are growing up and haven't yet come out ? Hearing all the teens saying "OMG that drink is sooooo GAY, it tastes like shit" blah blah growing up gay you feel worthless enough without everyone comparing shit stuff to the word gay .. it isnt exactly the direction we wanna head in .. not to mention the fact that people like myself and like how many generation gays before us have fought for the level of acceptance we have today. Lets not take it for granted or even take it a few steps bak.
I understand your point monk, however, have you heard the new generation of gays talk? Everything is "biotch" this, or "fag" that. They do sound something like blacks who call eachother "niggah" but take exception to a white boy using the term in any shape form or fashion. And the recent generations preceding them have not done much for the image of gays, what, with the Pride parades featuring drag queens and ripped muscly waxed and bronzed dudes in leather thongs and go-go boots. Jeez, I mean really!
I just wanna make it clear that some things we let ourselves say can and do make an impact on people around us .. somtimes without us even knowing it .. wouldnt it be better to make a positve impact instead of a negative one ?
Pa-leeez, girl! I am not responsible for what other people do, think or feel, which is merely one reason I left the borg. The way has been paved for this generation and the next to be whatever they want to be FREELY, and the fact that gay men meet regular on Blacks Beach to play flippy-flop out on the open public shore proves it. While gays, along with other socalled minorities have gained their liberation, some of them, especially the younger generation, don't know what the hell to do with it. They forget that they still need to be a human being while wearing their mom's fishnets.
I am gay, and I find alot of humor and irony in that, which allows me to love and tolorate all sorts of gay peeps.

i've been out (dfed) since 1995 and have only set foot in a kh for my brother's wedding.
Yes, most of the Witnesses I knew and still know, can't seem to heed the organization's admonition about gossipping. I got ill when my x- wife would sit at the dining room table with other miserable sisters drinking coffee and eating fatening treats while sharing everyone's business. Sometimes I also got sucked into the conversations because there isn't anything more intriguing, in "The Truth", than learning how Brother Elder was found out about his smoking and extra-marital affair for a number of years while serving the congregation in "good standing". (Hey! That brother was one of the elders on the committittie that DF'd me for smoking!)
I still know alot of Witnesses because while I have been DFd for a number of years, my old friends' kids are friends with my kids.
I have a brother who was once a pioneer and MS, but one day just dropped out and came out of the closet. Later he just seemed to drop off the face of the earth and nobody, not even family had heard from him in almost 10 years. One of my kids' friends told my kid recently to tell me that my brother was currently living 45 minutes up north serving as a MS in a local congregation. That kid's dad was good friends with my bro for many years so I viewed the information as reliable.
I spent alot of time calling all the KH's in that area looking for my bro and nobody had heard of him. Hmm . . .
Well, I received a call just two days ago, all out of the blue, from none other than that long lost brother who laughed when I told him the rumor I had heard, saying, "shit, serving as a MS anywhere is the last place you would have found me. I've been living in Colorado for the last 9 years".
My x-wife spread the rumor in her congregation that I was dying from . . . well it doesn't matter, but when I heard about it I laughed and chalked it up to "wishfull thinking" on her part.
