I was raised as a JW and was very active (pioneered, Bethel, MS, etc) and started realizing that I had a lot of questions when I was about 26. After a few years of Bible study, I realized that the WT wasn't as "right" as they claimed they were. I also came to the conclusion that the God of the Old Testament was nothing like the God of the NT or Jesus Christ, which casts a shadow of doubt on the whole darn thing. So I am now quite agnostic and have no desire or need for a religion to tell me how to act or to believe in a book that is faulty to begin with. I still pray with a hope that there is a God who listens, but don't count on it. I don't feel I need any group to help me try to communicate with God.

Choosing another religion?
by asleif_dufansdottir ina discussion on another thread made me wonder about what happens when we finally come to the conclusion that the society is full of sh*t.
did you take some time to 'get your religious bearings' before contemplating joining another religion?
or, was it a strong religious belief that brought you out of the jws?

double talk from the socity what a shock
by kilroy2 inthis quoat if from the dubs web site, they act like they are the peacfull people just trying to live and let live, any one who has been a dubber knows that this is crap.
according to them if they had the power all other religions would be converted or killed.
i can still remember an overseer holding a skull on stage in holt michigan saying that when you associate with people who are not dubbers remember that this is the condtion that they would be in if it was after the big a. they say they want religous freedom but as usual they mean for dubbers only.

I understand your point Kilroy, but the JWs have done quite a bit to further religous freedom throughout the world. Although it was for selfish motives, it has resulted in nothing but good for the religous community (of which I am not part of, but believe in their rights.)

washington george w. bush and hillary rodham clinton are finally on the same ticket the most admired man and woman in america, according to a poll released monday.. the republican president and the democratic senator from new york and former first lady wont be found on the same sides of many political issues.

The incumbent president is almost always the most admired man in such polls, but it's not uncommon for the first lady not to be the most admired woman.
Interesting...
The poll of 1,004 adults was taken December 5-7 and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
I wonder what the margin of error on deciding the margin of error is?

What do the polls say on the "tastes great" vs "less filling" debate?

Idiot work mates
by Descender ini don't really understand why some people can be such idiots.
how can people dismiss every other person's religion or belief as illogical while holding strong to their own illogical beliefs.
i work with a few bush worshiping ultra conservatives.

That is so scary that people have the capacity to be that stupid and ignorant and dangerous to the well being of others! I feel sorry for you having to deal with that. Try just punching them in the nose whenever they talk stupid talk. And then tell them you are only doing your part to squash ignorance.

I find it hard to pat ourselves on the back for removing a dictator when our history is riddled with US supporting and installing dictators to protect US money interests in other countries. It seems that nearly every South American country, dictator and banana republic had US involvement. With the horrible track record our government has, I'd be hard pressed to think they've done a 180 degree turn and removed Sadam for noble reasons.

What if Jesus never come ?
by gentlesoul in"i'm dreaming of a white christmas!
" not really--- although i'd love to have lightly falling snow on christmas mourning.
i do dream of mysteriously finding a million dollars in my bank account and reading a scale that say's i'm 160 lbs.

Oh, I know mine came from a desire to follow Jesus' example. But what if I didn't have that? Would I still have morals or be good? I don't know. But mainly I was referring to those who get their ethos from other gods or religious icons. Such as buddhists, hindus, jews, muslims, pagans, tribal religions, ancestor worship, etc. What of the good that they do? Whether or not Jesus came is probably immaterial to them.

For the believers
by gentlesoul infor those who still believe in jesus and his purpose and in a god who is creator.
do you feel it is appropriate to hang in place as such when the scriptures teaches us "not to cast pearls before swine?
" please tell me your feelings on this subject as i feel that i should not be here but for some reason keep returning....do we believers feel that we can make some good here and is that why we continue to come here?

well where was the respect when I used a scripture from something I believe in
You can't control the actions of others, and you certainly shouldn't base your actions on what others do. Didn't Jesus teach that?
talk about God to them they give me the respect of hearing what I say without caustic replies.
Your friends probably know you much better than people on a discussion board. I was simply trying to explain why people you first meet might take offense at the words you use. Take it or leave it, act as you will, it doesn't bother me. I did notice that you did not respond to anything in my post though. I'd be interested to know if you agree or disagree and why.
This is not a one sided issue here and your certainly not talking with a kid here by far either. I have been around the block a few times more than you.
I never assumed I was talking to a kid. You could be 100 years old for all I know. But that is quite the assumption you are making of me. Are you absolutely sure that you've been around the block a few more times than me?
So I guess what I am getting at is this " you get what you give" if you want respect then you have to give it also......peace
I'm sorry if you think I disrespected you. Please point out how I did it so I can refrain from similar actions in the future. Besides this, I'm not sure if that is the way that Christ taught..."you get what you give."
