It seems every time I bring up the subject of my book being published, they start talking about something else, but this might be coincidence.
JW's don't want to hear about you making a success of something they couldn't do themselves.
the fact that women are not allowed to address the congregation directly is something that really bothers me.
is there a bible scripture, indicating that such should be the case?
furthermore, something as simple as passing a mike cannot be done by a woman.

i remember elders giving talks and giving good advice they didn't even keep themselves.. saying, don't listen to this or that kind of music, and when they get in their cars, that's exactly what's playing on the radio, or when they said to obey the law and then they go faster than the speed limit and say it's ok, i'm just following the other cars.. do you have any other examples of "do what i say, not what i do" witnesses?
.
Like the elders who give talks about not gossipping, when their wives do it all the time.
what's everybodys' favorite songs/song lyrics??.
"boulevard of broken dreams" by greenday.
"my shadow's the only one that walks beside me.
'i can't believe it
do dodo do dodo do dodo,
the way you look some times
like a trampled bag on a city street, oh yeah'
so much talk of destruction, adverse judgement and the biga etc.... .
but the bible clearly talks of destruction of "god's" enemies right?
it can't be that many.
Who are "God's" enemies? Really...
Intelligent man to whom he is of no use.
a jw cousin of mine called my jw wife today and asked if i saw my new nephew from my jw sister.
my wife said "no, his family would never allow him to see the baby!
" (i'm da'd).
I think shunning is ridiculous. I think most people lose sight of why they are doing it, and do it just to make the point of 'ha ha, I am a good JW, you are DF'd, I am going to make you feel outcast'... when in fact if a person leaves the 'flock' with no intentions of going back anyway, they are no harm to anyone, and as someone said in a post a few days ago, if it was about love, they would not be forced through such humiliation to go back to their family of 'brothers' just like the prodigal son wasn't... But DF'ing was never about keeping the 'flock' clean, it is about control and fear, just like Armageddon.
pontius pilate asked, and now i'm asking.
i've been reading many topics in here, now i am wondering... what is truth?
i'm both respectful and broadminded enough to allow for any other viewpoint, whether or not i agree.
the truth is that we will never know the answer to that question.
it was my experience when a jw that many focussed their lives around...having good holidays...having nice cars (some with private plates)...having perfect houses etc etc.
it all seemed very materialistic to me.
totally the opposite to what was being preached from the platform.
i always wanted more than my jw lot in life prescribed.
i came to a stark realisation, this week, and it's simply this: i no longer feel any need to use derogatory terms about the wts.. i had closure, from leaving the jws, when i da'ed january 2002. around that time i accepted it as being a "cult", whereas before i used the term "high-control group".
i started using terms such as "borg" and "dub", to describe the wts and jws, and i really do think that helped the process of extracting indoctrinated ideas.. i hate what is being done in the name of that religion, but i see that in other religions, too.
other than the briefest of moments, i've seen fairly clearly that getting angry or obsessive about a corporate entity is a little futile.
I understand where you're coming from LT, I've actually never felt the need to diss them at all, I just do it because it's fun.

as if the ayatollahs weren't paranoid enough?
i don't usually respond to ploitical threads but i thought i would respond to this question.
Is the USA an empire?
no.
.
have any of you held with signs, yelling out at the jws as they enter the convention?.
that used to really scare me!
Most apostates I saw at the conventions resembled homeless people or hippies.
Yep, my perception of 'apostates' at assemblies was that they were freaks, I used to laugh at them with their big boards and signs and all kinds of shit and think 'get a life'... I still think standing outside an assembly and making a noise is not a good way to send a positive message.
