Google Ranking sites by trustworthiness
by enigma1863 inhave you heard about this?
in the future google might sort website links by how accurate the information is.
it would definitely put the jw.org website near the bottom of the list.. http://mediamatters.org/embed/static/clips/2015/03/06/38933/fnc-hn-20150306-morano.

They have to rank them somehow. Factoring in trustworthiness will undoubtedly improve the quality of search results. It is not censorship. The only ones with anything to fear are those who promote pages that are inaccurate and untrustworthy. -

The further back you go, the more embarrassing the 'spiritual food'. JWs are scared of their own older literature, with good reason, and would rather it were forgotten. -

I received my acceptance letter into Nursing School.
by adjusted knowledge ini've been actively pursuing a career change for quite a few years.
i've applied for nursing programs at several local public colleges.
the competition is high for this limited access program.

Education, education, education....
by snare&racket inan update on my life post education..... as the governing body continue to denounce higher education, reality continues to prove their words ignorant, ill informed and blatant lies.
i am proud and astonished to say i have just been accepted for a university teaching hospital post.
i have a seriously sought after, senior house officer job in intensive care, endocrinology and clinical pharmacology.

Sam Harris has some interesting comments on extracting the secular goodies from Buddhism while rejecting the religious elements:

Vidiot: Good post, kinda long, all stuff we've gone through before.
Thanks, yes, the intended audience is those who are either just joining or just leaving the JWs - I tried to document the things I would have wanted to know at that point, as it is a very confusing time when you're trying to sort out what's true and what isn't.

@abiather: Gorillas did not become humans - please refer to myth number 3, above. I think I understand what you are saying though - you don't think it is possible for a new species to evolve from an ancestral species by natural means, and some supernatural influence is the only explanation you will accept. I'm also pretty sure that no amount of evidence would convince you otherwise, so I'm not going to argue with you. If you spot anything inaccurate in the above sample chapter though, please feel free to let me know. Thanks for your feedback. -

If we can believe Gorilla made such an impossible leap to human, such a great miracle that happened automatically without an external help would eclipse all the miracles reported in all the scriptures.
Nobody is saying that a Gorilla made a leap to human.

It is true that certain percentage of DNA of gorilla and DNA of humans would be similar. Yet that tiny portion of unshared DNA makes a world of difference: it gives us, for instance, our bipedal stance and all our unique abilities to the extent of planning even space missions!
Agreed!
Nothing except a superstitious faith can vouch for such an impossible leap from gorilla to humans!
I used to agree with that, when I had superstitious faith in an undetectable invisible super-powered being. Now I am impressed by the number of logical fallacies one can fit in a single sentence! False dichotomy (superstitious faith or nothing), personal incredulity (you cannot believe it, therefore it is impossible), straw man (gorilla to human), appeal to the stone / proof by assertion (dismissal of the evidence already presented without grounds).

What's the mechanism?
by Half banana ini am perpetually challenged by the fact that most jws are completely duped by the propaganda pumped out relentlessly by the borg.
even intelligent ones; they unwittingly grovel to the gb decisions and follow the party line.
they do this for a number of reasons..

I am lonely/depressed/unwell/newly retired/having a mid-life crisis/insert vulnerability here. I start studying with JWs, and they tell me I'm not going to die. Life is going to be great. Paradise. They can prove it from the Bible. I like the person who comes and talks to me about these things every week. I go to a meeting. Everyone is so friendly! Suddenly I have more friends than I've ever had before. Everyone is happy and united. I feel so much better than I did before. Whatever question I raise, they have an answer from the Bible. My JW family members are all happy for me. When I make progress I get lots of praise.
I look on the internet and people say bad things about JWs. I know that's not true. My JW teacher tells me there are apostates - former members who don't want to live by Bible rules and who have an axe to grind so they make up lies. Apostates bad. JWs good.
