I've been dying to see US. Even though they are a rock band, their lyrics are very spiritual and sometimes make a political statement. On top of that they sound f$%cking awesome. I hope to go if they come to my area. Unfortunately, tickets are pretty expensive to see them play. Anywhere from $50 (nose bleed section) to $1000 (front row). I'm sure it's totally worth it, though.

This happens to me on occasion. In my case, the cure has been to go to a meeting. When you're there, you remeber why you left and you can see how much your thinking has changed. The talks that were always so full of "spiritual food" seem petty and stupid. That's when I know I can never go back.

Does anyone get scared?
by aud8 indoes anyone who has left the organisation ever get scared at current world events and what they seem to be leading to?
more and more the governments are getting fed up with religion, there is now more than even a call "for" peace rather than "of" peace and security.
bin laden and his extremist religious views would give rise to the thought that governments will in the future be intent on eradicating religion altogether due to the trouble it causes.

Ianao raised a good question. What about the apostates who wouldn't "spit" in Jehovah's face? There are many people here that love god and want to worship him but are no longer Witnesses. What about those ones?

Jehovah's pre-recorded judgments are that this system meet up with it's day of justice. You imagine that God is going to personally kill people he doen't like. One will lead to life and the other to death.Each person will be required to make a choice under the most trying of circumstances. Apostates mock and ridicule the very notion that this system could implode upon itself. On the other hand, I have repeated shown from this world's own sources, that the system is very vulnerable to collapse and that in fact that such a calamitous crash is inevitable. Jehovah offers a place of protection to those who are willing to look to him. What more do you think God should do? / You Know"
So in the great tribulation, this system falls, and we are all left with two alternatives. Do you believe that it is possible for non-JWs to make the right choice? Even if they don't mock the notion that we are in the last days, looking at today's events?

i have been watching the site for a while and thought it could benefit from the opinions of someone who is happily a member of the jw's.
i will not get into any argumets that lead to nothing except name calling, and will not talk with anyone who is just plain mean (plenty of them in here).

How many died in 70 C.E. because they did not pay attention to Jesus' words? More that a million Jews. Who's fault was it? Their own."I think that you are forgetting that the bible is subject to each person/religion's interpretation. I know that all Christian religions know the basic teachings of the bible, ie Thou Shall not kill, Thou shall not steal, etc. That is something that we all can agree on. However, who are you to say that the JW teachings on heaven and hell, etc are the only ones that are correct and that people who don't follow these doctrines are going to perish?
When I first left the "truth", I went to see a pastor about JW teachings versus typical christian teachings. I strutted in there with my reasoning book and bible thinking I was going to show him a thing or to. However, he showed me from my own bible the numerous verses that support Christian theory on heaven, hell, trinity, etc. He actually made alot of sense. Is his religion the only religion accepted by god? No. Nor did he claim is was.
After blowing my argument completely out of the water, he continued to put emphasis on being a good person and helping fellow man. For example, people from his church help the homeless on weekends, travel to third world countries to build homes for the poor. You mean to tell me that because this god fearing, kink man doesn't believe in your exact doctrines, he is going to perish and it will be his own fault? I find that extremely hard to believe.

Welcome, welcome, welcome. You have no idea how refreshing it is to have a Witness who is open minded visiting this forum! The majority that come onto this board can be extremely condescending and downright mean sometimes. It is a pleasure having you here so please stick around.
As a whole, the people in the Jehovah's Witness religion are loving and kind. I've know many in my life that were truly good people. However, I've noticed that this varied from congregation to congregation. Unfortunately, my congregation was nothing like yours. People were rarely loving and caring. They were too busy policing their brothers and sisters to catch them in wrongdoing to ever give each other a helping hand. At one point, I went through a very long depression and wasn't making it to many meetings. Not once did somebody stop by to see me. Just the opposite happened. People stopped associating with me because I wasn't regular. And this didn't just happen to me, several people got this type of treatment. I could go on for hours with stories.
Also, I just can't agree with the idea that there is only one true religion. After leaving the JW religion I met many many wonderful people from all different faiths and walks of life. It is hard for me to believe that god is going to kill those that aren't JWs. You have the Catholic religion, Buddists, Muslims, etc., religions that date back thousands of years and Jehovah's Witnesses say that their religion is the ONLY true religion? A religion that started at the end of the 1800s and was a branch of the seventh day adventists? I find that very hard to believe.
Also, please don't get offended if the people here get snippy on occasion. I think that people here get defensive because they've been emotionally kicked around. Because we have different beliefs than the Witnesses we are treated like leppers. Our families and friends have left us because we are unique individuals, with different ideas than theirs. There is nothing in this world as cruel and manipulative as that.

Once upon a time, there lived a man who had a terrible passion for baked beans. He loved them, but they always had an embarrassing and somewhat lively reaction on him. One day he met a girl and fell in love. When it was apparent that they would marry, he thought to himself "She'll never go for me carrying on like that," so he made the supreme sacrifice and gave up his beloved baked beans, and shortly after, that they got married.
It was his birthday a few months later and, on the way home from work, his car broke down.
Since they lived in the country, the man called his wife and told her he would be late because he had to walk.
On his way home, he passed a small cafe and the wonderful aroma of baked beans overwhelmed him. Since he still had several miles to walk, he figured he could walk off any ill effects before he got home. So he went in and ordered, and before leaving had three extra large helpings of baked beans. All the way home he 'putt-putted'. He 'putted' down one hill and 'putt-putted' up the next.
By the time he arrived home he felt reasonably safe. His wife met him at the door and seemed somewhat excited.
She exclaimed, "Darling, I have the most wonderful surprise for you for dinner tonight!" She put a blindfold on him, and led him to his chair at the head of the table and made him promise not to peek.
At this point he was beginning to feel another one coming on. Just as she was about to remove the blindfold, the telephone rang. She again made him promise not to peek until she returned, and she went to answer the phone. While she was gone, he seized the opportunity. He shifted his weight to one leg and let go. It was not only loud, but ripe as a rotten egg. He had a hard time breathing, so he felt for his napkin and fanned the air about him. He had just started to feel better, when another urge came on. He raised his leg and 'rrriiiipppp!' It sounded like a diesel engine revving, and smelled worse. To keep from gagging, he tried fanning his arms awhile, hoping the smell would dissipate. Things had just about returned to normal when he felt another urge coming. He shifted his weight to his other leg and let go. This was a real blue-ribbon winner; the windows rattled, the dishes on the table shook and, a minute later, the flowers on the table were dead. While keeping an ear tuned in on the conversation in the hallway, and keeping his promise of staying blindfolded, he carried on like this for the next ten minutes, farting and fanning them each time with his napkin. When he heard his wife saying goodbye (indicating the end of his loneliness, and freedom) he neatly laid his napkin on his lap and folded his hands on top of it. Smiling contentedly, he was the picture of innocence when his wife walked in. Apologizing for taking so long, she asked if he had peeked at the dinner. After assuring her he had not, she removed the blindfold and yelled,
"Surprise!!"
To his shock and horror, there were twelve dinner guests seated around the table for his surprise birthday party.

Michael Jackson still a JW!

in it he says he is still a jw and still goes door to door in disguise.
i had heard a rumour recently that he still donated a lot of money to the society but had no clue he still claimed to be one.

Speaking of the infamous Jackson family, a couple of months ago, Janet did an interview with the magazine Redbook in which she discusses her failed second marriage. As you know, Janet was also brought up a JW, which she stated in the article.
She didn't outrightly blame the strict JW policy on dating only for marriage as the reason her marriages failed, but she did state that that was why she married the only two men she had every dated, which did play a role in the failures. She then went on to say that by not dating around, she never really got to know herself and what she liked.
I found her words so true. Growing up, I saw alot of my Witness friends get married at ages 18 & 19 because they wanted to avoid immorality. However, I ended up hearing quite a few of them say at one time or another that they wish they hadn't married so young. A few even said that if they had it to do over again, they may not have married their mate! I find it very sad.

Anyone Remember The Chaperone Thing?
by Englishman inback when i was a lusty young lad of 17, a certain sister caught my eye - i swear that she could make her eyelashes beckon - and i duly decided to pay court to said sister.. however, it was not to be so simple.
round about that time, it would have been mid-60's, the wtbts were having a real downer on anyone who wore a short skirt (not me), danced the twist or grew their hair (me) over their ears.. but, the worse thing was still to come.

The WTS chaperoning policy was still quite active when I left four years ago. However, I think things may have changed or may be different than Simon's hall. Nobody was disfellowshipped for breaking off engagements at my KH.
I was engaged to a good JW boy at the at age 18 and broke off the engagement. I really didn't want to get married yet but was being pressured into doing so by the elders. Nobody said a thing when I broke it off. Of course, I became inactive a few months after then and everybody was saying, "It's a good thing Kevin didn't marry that Mandy girl". Nobody once inquired of how I was doing. Fuckers.
