i knew some that secretly celebrated thanksgiving, the 4th of july, christmas (the day after) new year's eve, and birthdays.
my family always had a turkey on thanksgiving and we might invite only close friends that we knew would not get stumbled.
Oh, I forgt to answer the question..... No, I didn't celebrate them as a witness. I was much to HOLY for that.... I must say that the best christmas present I've had this year is that I've found this site... I still have a lot of healing to do. So many thoughts and feelings I've kept quiet.

I've been df'd for a little over 6 years now....I have to say though the JW's have completely turned me off to all HOLYDAYS.... Sorry ...its just another day to me... my parents sent me some things that I opened last week...nice of them.. As for HOLYDAYS , I don' t really care of there origin, pagan or religous, or whatever.... All I care about now, as far as Christmas and New Years, are concerned, is 4th and 1st quarter earnings....

i have been watching a couple of the movies retelling the life of christ and i was wondering about the words jesus said to the criminal who asked him to remember him.. the king james version reads: and jesus said unto him, "verily i say unto thee, today shalt thou be with me in paradise" luke 23:43. the new world translation reads: and he said to him "truly i tell you today, you will be with me in paradise.
" luke 23:43. the movie i was watching quoted or at least was closer to the king james version.
maybe i am wrong but the same scriptures seem to imply two different things.
where was jesus "today"???? IN HELL

If your into mathematics, physics, and chemistry... you can see math and reocurring numbers throughout creation... constants...ie. pi...natural log...
like Galileo said, math is the language that God used to write the Universe.... the Jews use their alphabet as their number system, and interestingly enough, whether by chance or design, numbers continually reoccur in the writings of the Hebrew scriptures... I found it extremely interesting for a while, so studied it a bit.... Eventually I threw it away just like everything else.

I read an interesting book when years back when I left jw's... I think it was called "A Kabala of Numbers" by Sepherial....It was extremely interesting, and all about this subject. It was used mainly for divination. I think the majority was bunk and not very practical, however. Good tidbits in there though..

do you think that you live your life mostly giving to others-----or, is it all about you?
I see most religous people in the world giving there time or money because it gives them a sense of euphoria, or joy. They can look back at the end of the day and say," damn, I'm a really good person.. I'm righteous and god loves me for it!!" I don't find that a selfless act....they're getting something in return.. They are paying for that joy!
Am I more of a giver than a receiver? I'd still have to say yes.. Now though, I give to my friends out of a sense of obligation when they need my help. Do I give my money or time away to strangers? NO!!!!!
On the receiving end, my friends have helped me on occasion, but I have a lot of pride in myself, and am a very self sufficient person. I never take handouts, and don't expect them.
Lonely...Im stuck at work with the 0200-0700 watch. I'm in the US Navy, so it's not like I get paid more for working tonight. No worries though.. I'm drinkin' beers and hitting the beach tomorrow!
