Do you think that you live your life mostly giving to others-----or, is it all about you?
Is It All About YOU???

I think you need to rephrase your question, Oh Great Questioner of JWDB.
I think it should always be a proper give-and-take, win-win as much as possible with human relationships. Of course, there are exceptions when people are ill, etc.
In fact, if there's too much altruistic giving, there are people who take advantage of it frequently. Conversely, you have the CEO types who take and take.

IMHO either way is not good -- too much receiving is not good --too much giving is also not. I like to think I am a reasonably balnaced person but on the whole I am probably more of a giver than a receiver. I always tip my bartender a minimum 20% (unless it is Newark Airport with extravagantly inflated prices) and I always tip the waitresse wel at my local restaurants especially if the prime rib is good. I also used to give a lot of my time when I was an elder -- it is good to both give an receive (bit like a healthy sexual relationship also). SORRY MINIMUS -- do not want to hijack your thread and give it sexual overtones!!!

Some people pretend to care about people---- what they say, how they feel, etc. but in reality couldn't care less about anything or anyone but themselves. You know, the type of person that asks you, "How are YOU doing?" and then uses the opportunity to tell the other person EVERYTHING that is happening in their life.

"How are YOU doing?" and then uses the opportunity to tell the other person EVERYTHING that is happening in their life.
I have also had the opposite where someone will ask the question "How are you doing" and when you reply -- well actually not too good -- they walk away -- how are you doing is just a greeting to them -- they do not really want to know how you are doing. Very prevalent in certain congregations -- not necessarily in all of course.

Stilla---I think that happens to be a typical reaction whether JW or not. REALLY, no one cares to know all the negatives one has when they ask that question. The question's not a serious one. "Hiya. Howyoudoin'?" Nobody wants to hear anything but this in return----"Goodn'you?''

Hey Min................Merry Christmas... ya sick little Bastard!
Some people pretend to care about people---- what they say, how they feel, etc. but in reality couldn't care less about anything or anyone but themselves. You know, the type of person that asks you, "How are YOU doing?" and then uses the opportunity to tell the other person EVERYTHING that is happening in their life.
Yes......there are people like this everywhere.
I don't think this type of person is ALWAYS a barometer of a persons worth though. Some really do care about others that act this way.......it's just that they tune things out of their lives that others do not.
You and an old lady might hear of a story at the same time that's a bit sad about someone. In 5 minutes you are back working and forgot the story, while the little old lady is dwelling on it all day to the point of wanting to send a card to the person the story was about. Are you a hearless bastard and she is not? Not really.....some take things to heart and others sift out what they don't want to think about. However.....if you were to see this person in the story face to face.....your heart might bleed harder than the old lady and your concern for that person might extend further than hers.
And...........then there are the types in life that are just plain selfish, self centered assholes!
Gumby........................and merry Christmas all you bastards!
