  BBQ Advice

  for many years i have held bbq's in derision.

  i am not one for social norms and have a general fear of succumbing to pleasant suburban society.

  maybe i harbour this dislike because a jw once told me that he imagines the new system as a never ending bbq.

  For many years I have held BBQ's in derision. I am not one for social norms and have a general fear of succumbing to pleasant suburban society. Maybe I harbour this dislike because a JW once told me that he imagines the new system as a never ending BBQ. But despite all that, yesterday I went out and purchased for myself my very first BBQ.

  Now I have some questions because my evenings cooking did not go too well:

  1. What is the best way to ignite these things?What is the best fuel /igniter combination?

  2. Any advice/tips on cleaning up afterwards?

  Other bits of BBQ wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

  By how it was presented on our local radio, it's interesting that in wider coverage that information is omitted. I'm not making too much of this however, you get idiots in all sectors of society and these are just a small number of minor incidents. The problem is they are increasing.

  What is your strangest "supernatural" JW story?

  i had just became a witness and a guy i worked with, who was also a jw, told me a story that actually made me laugh and i think it upset him a bit.

  the storys were almost always in the third person.

  it went as follows.. this brothers wife and him were sitting at the kingdom hall on the end seats of the row next to the back of the room.

  I remember a sister going on about how a car her husband owned was daemonized . It had apparently tried to kill them. She implied that there was more to the story that she couldn't divulge (me thinking, yea like bad driving) and the elders had dealt with it. The car was a Alpha Romeo and she put the problems down to its demonic badge.

  Having lived in a neighbourhood that was predominately Muslim (Bangladeshi & Pakistani)I have mixed feelings. Without doubt these people have strong families and good communities but they are not there for the good of the host country. I have seen their attitudes change with time as they have become more dominant in numbers, in that they have made more and more demands. As a group Muslims are very mobilised and united in their goals and they will take over bit by bit it is in their psyche. Like the Witnesses they have an ability to present an acceptable face while all the time having an inner feeling of superiority knowing that only they are the future.
  
  But things are as they are and there is no turning back, high Muslim birthrates and immigration along with notable indigenous emigration will change this country and probably much of Europe and who's to say that a stable Muslim dominated Europe would not be a better place to live but to get to that point much conflict is on the horizon. The majority of the UK population are apathetic towards religion they have grown up with values that centre on freedom of choice and tolerance towards all, not particularly Christian values but values that have allowed Muslims the opportunity to thrive in our society. An inevitable tipping point will occur when a majority of people begin to realise that their freedom of speech is in turn being eroded because of the tolerance they showed to others. I am convinced there will be trouble ahead!

  Did You Believe That Gambling Was A Sin?

  i never did!

  i thought it was in the long run, dumb to do, but i never felt a person should be expelled from the congregation for "greediness" just because a person buys lottery tickets or raffles.. (by the way, i enjoy moderate gambling.

  keno is a favorite pastime)..

  As a JW I had no issue with not being able to gamble. I think it can cause a lot of problems in society and in general we are better not doing it. That said I do the lottery now which I enjoy and consider harmless.

  That letter is just a formatted response from someone saying what they are expected and conditioned to say. It offers nothing of real love or encouragement - just ignore it. jgnat summed it up for what it is.

  "the next thing that really bugs me is how i am " lost" and " no longer intelligent" because i have decided to leave a religion. ...."

  You know this is my biggest gripe also. I still talk to my Mum and sisters, but I no longer have the authority I had. Not just in connection to spiritual things but regarding life in general. It seams that because I chose to leave the only obvious true religion i.e. Jehovah's Witnesses, I must be stupid in all other spheres of life also - infuriating!!
