I live in a very small village about 40 miles north of London. My little village held the country residence of the American ambassador before world war one. John Bunyan also was a local boy. Oh, and the next door village is famous for Satan worship

A very bad start to the year. My football (Soccer) team just lost to their fiercest rivals. I am now going to be depressed all week.

Ozzie, that is just too hot. I like the climate we have here in the U.K. Lots of variety but nothing too hot or too cold.

Your first talk at the Theorcatic Ministry School, do you remember it?
by JH ini do, i had to read ezekiel 9: (1-11)
and he proceeded to call out in my ears with a loud voice, saying: have those giving their attention to the city come near, each one with his weapon in his hand for bringing ruin!
there were six men coming from the direction of the upper gate that faces to the north, each one with his weapon for smashing in his hand; and there was one man in among them clothed with linen, with a secretarys inkhorn at his hips, and they proceeded to come in and stand beside the copper altar.

At what age did you start driving a car?
by JH ini always was fascinated with cars and driving.
when i was a child going to school, often i sat in the front seat, just to look at the bus driver change gears, press on the clutch and just by looking at the way he did it helped me when i drove my first manual transmission car.. here is a picture of my first car.
an old 1974 volks wagen beetle.

I was about 19 when I passed my test, the very same week my best friend and the person who taught me to drive died in a car accident (Going to a district assembly). This had a big effect on me and I hated driving for years, I would finish my journeys just soaked in sweat. I still dislike driving but don’t fear it anymore. I often ponder what the world would be like without cars, I’m sure it would be a much nicer place. It used to be one of my major hopes for the new system

Why would a current JW choose to be rude and offensive?
by AlmostAtheist ini've recently had lengthy pm discussions with a person claiming to be a current jw.
this person has been above the standard level of arrogant for a jw, raising conceit to practically a defining characteristic.
you almost expect that when you're dealing with a member of the "elite".. but he goes beyond it.

Thanks, I dont seem to be able to do that in Firefox.

The Way of All Flesh by Samuel Butler
by Bonnie_Clyde ini remember that this book was a recommended reading list on this forum.
i bought the book and have read about three chapters--just having a hard time getting interested in it.
can anyone tell me if they read it or enjoyed it?
-
Peppermint
I read it a long time ago and enjoyed it. Not sure if there are many parallels with the JW’s though. I remember it as very funny and witty in describing the religious and moral values of the day.
