I doubt if anyone remembers me from years ago. I did not post that much, however I have been lurking well before my membership date. It took me some years, and now can say I am out, and proudly called an apostate. I owe a lot to this site.

You are preaching to the choir smiddy, calling my brother a twit is being kind. This guy owes so many people in his congregation money, and he no intention to pay them back. He has been an elder over 30 years (do they still have the same elder arrangement when I left left 20 years ago???) and is one of the most dishonest persons I ever met. -

Similar thing happened to me recently. My brother who wrote me off years go because i am df'ed recently asked me for a loan, several thousand dollars, stating financial troubles. I told him I would not want to endanger his good relationship with the congregation and Joe Hoover by taking money from eventual bird food. I reminded him Joe can be an angry God. -

Haven't posted in a while. Love Junior's , I live up the block from there. Went to Tavern on the Green about ten years ago, a bit over price and over rated if you ask me. Also they closed about 2 years ago.
I love the Oyster Bar, I'm a regular at the saloon there, I try to catch a quick drink or two be for I catch he train home from work. However, their are a ton of new restaurants in my area in Brooklyn (Clinton Hill/ Fort Green). I love Maggie Brown's, Luz and Chez Lola, good food and reasonable prices.

"Read the bible daily"
by veen incorrect me if i'm wrong, but i used to think that on one of the brooklyn bethel buildings there used to be a big sign saying, "read god's word the bible daily", or something along those lines.
well i went there recently and i saw a big sign saying, "read the watchtower and awake!
" not necessarily daily though, that was not specified.

Yes, "Read God's Word the Bible" sign is still there. I walk over the Brooklyn Bridge into the City everyday and have the (cough) privilge of seeing the sign.

While we are on the topic of elder calling:
I received a letter yesterday from the
I’m still shunned by the member of the congregation even though I’m not disfellowshiped . If they miss me so much they should say something when they see me in the neighborhood. I love to see the expression on there faces when I run into one of them and try to start a conversation, they look like they a ghost and practically run away.
I think I will write them back in a sincere way that I’m confused about a few things; Generation change, blood issue and the U.N. issue among other things. I’m sure it will be another few years before I get an answer.

I have not attended my former congregation in years, but when I did attend in the mid 80's, early nineties we were like a social/religious organization. The various clicks would always have something going on like concerts, plays, and weekend trips to varied places. "Friends" from around the circuit would call us the party animal congregation. The CO eventually discovered we were having too much fun and had the elders present a Local Needs Talk to put a stop to us from making too much merry. At that time our congregations had the highest number of publishers, pioneers, and averaged hours per publisher, magazine placement and meeting attendance in the circuit.
I was talking to my former brother-in-law not too long ago, his wife is still in. He told me that the Sunday meeting averages about 80-90. This is down from about 175- 200 when I was attending.
Now that I think about, the reason we excelled as a congregation was because we enjoyed a life outside of the Kingdom Hall. However, as we all know if you are enjoying life the “Slave” is thinking the elders must be doing something wrong. They much rather see you go around looking miserable.
