  Are Seventh-Day Adventists a better Church to belong to than being a JW

  a lot of exjws need an answer to "where else to go?

  " and some people seem to need to belong to an organization.

  doing some research on answers.yahoo.com i noticed that both jws and mormons come in for a lot of criticism for being manipulative cults.

  I guess that rules me out. No steak and beer, life hardly seems worth living

  Well, my Texas county has one of their 'headquarters?' called a "conference" and a college and a hospital. They wield a tremendous amount of power and have been the main mover n' shaker that keeps this county DRY ! All the counties around enjoy the very good tax monies from those sales. There are a lot of good stores, restaurants, etc that won't move here, because of this.

  They do 'good deeds' with their hospital. However, a very poor friend of ours broke their leg and was treated at the hospital. They were turned over to some real nasty bill collectors who harass them twice daily for several months, despite knowing their financial condition. Not very 'Christ-like', imo.

  SDA are related to JW's with their 'end-of-the-world' doctrines which makes me 'throw-up-a-little-in-my-mouth' these days.

  And...

  I like beer, too And Jesus, reportedly liked -- wine. So, what's their problem ?

  Special announcement next week?????

  it was announced at the meeting last night that next week all should be in attendance at the service meeting as a special important letter will be read.

  this is in addition to the letter about the district convention.

  any idea what it's about?

  I think the Special Annoucement will be about how much FUN the Apostates had at the Dallas New Year's parties -- while all the JW's were attending boring meetings.

  And how much they wished they could have been there...! (hmmm...wait...they can't wish, can they ?)

  i needed that.

  i can say for everything you like, there is something in each one of you i am sure i see that i admire back and if not, i have not yet spent any time with you.

  What a kind, sweet thing to do, Sparky. You have wisdom, because you do look for and learn from the differences in others. I think your thoughtfulness comes 1st from your heart and your honesty about your own life experiences. It's good to see you thrive despite having experiences that would crush others spirits.

  I remember that scared, nervous, but at the same time hopeful look on your face at that restaurant where you met your first apostates. When I asked if you were looking for the apostafest...you looked so relieved. And that famous smile first flashed -- for us !

  I am so glad you took another chance that day and showed up. A new adventure !

  you were teens when i had to leave because of a conscience crisis and now you are in your 40s.

  i was too young and / or immature at the time to tell you that i truly loved you despite the fact that i was leaving a faith that i raised you to believe in.

  I was in my late 40's before the WT got way too personal in my life and had to walk away. None of us can ever give up on our kids.

  Len,

  I'm glad you're doing this...it must feel futile at times...to want to reach out to talk to all your sons and grandchildren. As long as they allow the WTS to decide 'who' should be in their lives, hearts & minds...this is the way it will be.

  Like you, me and the rest of us...your sons & my daughters will have to have their own 'crises of conscience' or their JW life will just have to get real 'personal'...something BIG will happen, before they can see a need to change course.

  As Judy and I slowly approached their house I saw a man handling some type of machine on the house’s SW corner. I told Judy to wait in the car and got out, suspecting that could be J, but couldn’t tell for certain even as I got closer. After all, it’s been some 27 years.
  
  The man was beginning to create downspout drainage ditches with a hand-held trencher. “I’m J -- Can I help you?”

  I understand that sad scene. The one grown child I have contact with was showing me some pictures, I couldn't recognise everyone in a photo. And I asked, "Who's that ?" She said, "You...don't know ?"

  The beautiful smile belonged to another of my own children. Just older, prettier. I would not have known her if I'd bumped into her. I was so happy to finally see her again, so why the tears ?

  Self Deceit and Faith.

  this thread is inspired by a comment made on another thread, but i thought it would make an interesting discussion.. self deceit is described as a "misconception that is favorable to the person who holds it".

  my premise is that faith is a form of self-deceit - lying to oneself.. so, i would ask of the "faithful" the following questions and would request that they be read carefully to ensure no that there is no misunderstanding of purpose.. 1) in what way is faith not self-deception?.

  2) is a person who has faith in a god that you do not believe in, say for example siva, practicing a form of self-deception?.

  Self deceit is described as a "misconception that is favorable to the person who holds it". My premise is that faith is a form of self-deceit - lying to oneself.

  1) In what way is faith not self-deception?

  Here's a very simple real life experience that revealed something about faith, misconception or self-deception to me.

  During the break-up of my JW marriage, I was doing all I could to save it. Although I was a WTB&TS doubter, I was still a Bible and God believer. We were both faithful. My then wife was and still is an Uber Dub.

  I went to Jehovah in the most serious prayer session...conversation, if you will, I'd ever had with my All-Knowing God of Love. I was so happy...He was there for my wife and I in this time of need. Jehovah 'told' me that my wife and I should not separate or divorce !

  Excitedly, I related this answer from Jehovah, to my equally faithful JW wife.

  She said, "Hmm...well, I prayed to Jehovah about the very same thing...and I got the opposite answer!"

  Self-deception ? Me or her ? Does it matter that I'm agnostic now and she's still a 'faithful' true believer ?

  Surely we would have gotten the same answer from the same god, whether Zeus or Jehovah, right ? Yet...we both arrived at the same answer that already existed in our own brains.

  My journey from agnostic (I dunno) to JWism (I absolutely know!) to agnostic (I still really don't know) took around 35 years.

  I really wanted to believe that a god cared for humankind. I wanted to believe He was among us, He listened to our prayers and would, in the end, be there to 'save the day.'

  My mind had to be opened to a real life fact -- I had to be honest to myself -- *I* have never seen a god. 'He' hasn't performed any miracles or answered any prayers -- that I have ever seen. Every year, every day of my life has passed by with only 'normal' things happening that have been occurring throughout human history. Tidal waves, earthquakes, childbirths & deaths, sun up, sun down, wars, pestilence, disease...and it happens to everybody. Every country. Every religion.

  If there is a god, he doesn't care or doesn't plan on getting involved. And, I don't care about gods. I care about my wife, my kids, relatives, friends, mankind and *me*. And *I* have done more for those people around me, than any god ever has. Because...I am here !

  Humans, for the most part are doers of good and bad. Godz on the other seem to be promisers.

  please send letters to stephen bates requesting an article on this issue.

  many of you may not see immediately how important this matter is.

  beyond the other legal ramifications, i.e, the wts lying about secular info., intentional deception, etc., the blood issue is a huge one.

  I am BTT this thread because it is important to me.

  I cried a few minutes ago over this 14 year old kid we all watched F*CKING DIE WHILE WE WERE READING ABOUT HIM!!!! My daughter is 14. I would kill someone over killing my child, and everyone in between me and them.They kill people. They kill people. People, children DIE for this organization. THEY DIE OVER MONEY!!!! Damn them to hell and they are going to have fun with what is coming for them.
