As a native New Yorker, I am expected to back the home team (according to my hubby at least) but nope...I'm just loving all this Sox drama and excitement! I hope they go all the way! The Yanks (the B-I-G money team) have had their fair share of the glory...let those Sox have their year in the sun!
If they spank the Yanks tonight, I'll be hooting and a-hollerin' for 'em to win it all! GO RED SOX!!!!

Most Witnesses I know are better off staying Witnesses. They don't have the guts to make it in the real world. They don't have the guts to admit they have been wrong. They don't have the guts to face their mortality and their lack of rational living preparation like educations and savings accounts.
I agree with you 100% garybuss and hugs to you. I can't imagine what you've had to endure.
My mom-in-law has been a JW for 50+ years. This is who she is, her identity in her life.
My brother is a moonie (30+ years) and that is who he is, his identity.
Without their so-called religions (their gangs as I like to call them), they are nothing, worthless in their own eyes.
My brother and mom-in-law have a big "problem" with "being wrong" about ANYTHING much less something they devoted their lives to for decades. It's part of their personalities. Their cults give them license to be "right" about everything.
And they'll never stop trying to get us to join their "gangs". They sneak the preaching in any way they can. (So tiresome)
Funny thing is, they both can't be right but they both can be very wrong. (I like to point that out to them from time to time)
My brother is sending my 16 year old niece over to Korea next year for the grand-slam of moonie brain-washing sessions. A full month of non-stop "prayer" and "enlightenment". She'll come back like my brother always does: with glazed-over eyes, a creepy smile and only one thing spinning in her head: how to make more money for that billionaire bastard Sun Myung Moon (oh, pardon me, I mean the new messiah and second coming of Christ...who has more bling bling than j-lo, not to mention the political pull he has bought for himself and why the hell does he need all that real estate? He owns half the world!) I am anxious and sick to my stomach about it. I feel so powerless and sad.
These rotten cults truly destroy families. I tell all my friends (and anyone who'll listen) to warn their kids at an early age about them.

Yes, a bittersweet and fond farewell to Johnny. The Ramones influenced so many bands here in New York and around the world. Glad I was lucky enough to see them whenever they played NYC.

Hahaha! I remember my beloved parakeets. Poor little things. I hated keeping them in their cage. I used to let them get their exercise a few times a week and they would land by grabbing onto the tops of all my cool rock posters and nibble away at the edges. They pooped on David Bowie's head. I named them Bird, Big Bird and Whirly-Bird. I still have their pix somewhere...

No KHalls for Hurricane relief
by SadElder ineldubs in florida (maybe elsewhere too) have been told that the kingdom halls should not be used for relief efforts or for shelters.
liability and insurance issues were stated as the reason.. will try and get a copy of this letter.. of course the kingdom halls are supposed to be the center of true worship and a place of comfort but i guess only in fair weather.

My mom-in-law (50+ years a JW) boasted how her KH was collecting funds for the hurricane victims down south.
So I asked "Is that for ALL the hurricane victims or just the JWs"
She replied "The brothers and sisters, of course"
I said "Not very Christian-like to EXCLUDE other victims, don't ya think?"

My mother-in-law has been a JW for about 50+ years and it seems she is most animated and gleeful when verbally ripping apart others behind their backs. She and her "sisters" just sit around and have a gossip-fest every other day. Listening to them you'd think they were back in the high school lunchroom!
They talk viciously about non-JWs and the JWs in their cong so no one really escapes their nasty comments (I know my husband and I are being discussed as well since we are both "demonized heathens") I often wonder how such "good Christians" can actually think this is acceptable behaviour. What gives them the right to be so arrogant and judgemental?! Do they really have to put others down in order to feel better about themselves?
The thing that irks me the most is that they laugh their heads off at other people's religious (or non-religious) beliefs but yet they demand the utmost respect for their own beliefs. It's absurd! The "truth"....the truth is that they are a bunch of back-stabbing insecure fools!

I've lived in a predominantly black middle-class neighborhood for about 13 years. My husband and I have been married 11 years. I'm white and he's black. We take care of his mom who's in her late 70's.
The one thing we can tell you is that many of kids in this neighborhood act and talk in a totally offensive manner. The screaming, yelling and cursing that comes out of their mouths is really quite disgusting. They call each other n*ggers all the time and are constantly breaking bottles in the same streets their parents drive their cars, chucking their garbage all over and the latest trend in this neighborhood is "lets kick some cars really hard and make some dents".
I'm not trying to paint a one sided picture because I know not all the kids here act like this but there are way too many that do. There are some really smart kids out there who want to live a peaceful life and are brought down by this kind of constant rowdy behaviour. I'm sure it's not an easy road for those kids who have some integrity and refuse to degrade themselves.
We live pretty close to a school and there is a fight on average about every 2-3 weeks during the school year. I'm talking about a swarm of roughly 60-100 kids screaming and egging on whatever 2 morons decided to go at it. The police are called on a regular basis.
My husband told some kids (4 girls) to leave our property the other day. They were standing behind a tree by our living room window trying to smoke a joint. They told him "f*ck off n*gger you can't tell us what to do!" After going back and forth with these mental midgets, they finally relented. Unfortunately, this is the norm here.
I'm glad Cosby had the balls to say what he has said. My husband is too. It definitely needs to be addressed because these kids are really going nowhere. They wind up drug addicts, prostitutes (single teenage moms abound here) criminals etc. It's a pretty sad situation at least where I am.
