I would appear the Society is using the ?Priest privilege? to their own benefit, god help them if it was an actual priest though, then it would be bad. I find it hard to understand why the elders were counseled to confront him on the pot, but not on the murder charges and perhaps council him to clear his conscience by turning himself in. That to me would seem a reasonable ?Priest privilege? solution, and show the actual heart condition of the man.
Go figure.

JWS IN HOSPITAL

my mum,while on a hospital ward saw several jws on her ward who refused blood transfusions, and were very white as a result,i personally saw an elderly person, possibly a jw, who looked very white..

When I delivered my first son I had a large amount of bleeding, I believe the doctors wanted to transfuse me, but being a witness I refused. Interestingly they asked in a round about way. After my refusal a surgeon was called in ?stat? and did some major repair work on me, to stem the bleeding. I to this day wonder if this would have been done if I accepted blood. Afterwards I was extremely pale from the loss of blood, and I know my blood count was lower then the lady next to me having a transfusion (which btw one nurse stopped prematurely because of issues with the machinery again making me wonder about the necessity.) I did not stay any longer in the hospital then anyone else, I was sent home and I did my best to build up my iron count. While I was sheet white for several weeks, I am still here.
My grandfather many years ago had cancer surgery and refused blood, the doctors were amazed at the speed of his recovery minus the blood. It was faster and better then those who took the transfusion. The doctors at the time did not want to operate because of his stand, said it was to high a risk.
I honestly believe that blood is used as a cure all, though today, hospitals are taking a second look at the un necessary use of this product. I believe honestly that the Witnesses were part of this second look as they willingly became the guinea pigs.

Hello everyone
I like ?the end is near (just around the corner)? Or, I heard this over lunch this week ?the air is just heavy now, you can just feel the end in the air (something is in the air).? I have heard these same phrases for 30 years now. Verbatim no less.
I recall after 9/11 my father told me they got a report from above that because of ?recent world events? (another buzz phrase) the society was not even going to plan the 2003 District Convention because ?the end was so close?. They just went to the 2004 District Convention, guess it wasn?t that close after all.
Back in the mid 90's my grandmother was so happy to say, ?the end is not years away now, it?s just months? I wonder 1080 months is really, just months.

This really makes you wonder doesn?t it. Not only is the statement the regurgitation of their own literature from another source, it is misleading.
How do we know we know ?our generation lives in a dangerous period of high seismic activity.? In 1977 did we honestly have all of the data for the past thousands of years of history? Do we have any written history from parts of the globe that did not include Asia? Even the death rate is suspect, thousands of years ago we did not have Mexico city and their huge population. Of course the death rate would be higher, there are more concentration of people now in cities.
What we as humanity thought we knew about our history is consistently being challenged as new discoveries are being made, and technology has advanced. Concrete today is out dated and proven wrong tomorrow. If the society honestly has nothing more to use as their ?proof? then their whole theory is highly suspect, isn?t it.
I bet they are beginning to hate the electronic age of research.

I had pretty much left at this time but I thought I would give it another shot. Figured the cold shoulder I always got was the congregation, wasn?t Jehovah?s people all about love?
I went to the Memorial in the United States. Other then feeling terribly guilty for thinking about missing this event, it was a good enough place to start fresh, as you know this event is where everyone jumps on any new face right away, at least that is what I was expecting. I got there, bible and song book in hand, sat down and no one said a word. All I got were strange ?who is that? type stares.
Finally at the end, and me close to tears, one lone sister said hello, are you new? (Catch phrase for ?do you need a bible study?) I said no, I am visiting from Ontario Canada. She said, ?where is that?? ?Know Buffalo NY, go north.? She said that is nice and moved on while mumbling something about hope to see you again. (I wasn?t available for a bible study so I wasn?t worth it.)
Other then me being floored about the lack of general knowledge of North American geography (This was Philly btw) it pretty much confirmed everything. The total lack of any real desire to know anyone not in the in group was alive and well. Brotherly affection, I still am waiting to see it.
It took all I had in me to go, as at this time every time I went near the KH I would burst into tears, this experience didn?t make it any better. This was the last time I went to the Kingdom Hall for any meeting.
My next experience with any witness came when I moved back home to Canada and met up with a sister who used to go to my book study at the bank (she was the teller, I was the client). She took one look at me and snarled. Mean and rude doesn?t begin to describe it. (I am not disfellowshipped) It took all doubts from my mind about what brotherly affection exists. There is no excuse to treat anyone in a business setting this way, disfellowshipped or not.
What amazes me is that for a group who never took the time to know me while I did attend, they sure had enough ?truths? about me afterwards. I only wish I did half of what they say I did. It?s so nice to hear so many ?stories? about your life, and you can not remember any of it.

When I was a child there was a congregation within the congregation of deaf persons. Several people including my aunt translated the public talks for them then they would gather around in the back of the hall to have their own watchtower study. Today there is still a portion of the DC that caters to the deaf population and I have always been impressed by watching how they do all of the translation of the talks, and demonstrations. It also helped time fly by giving me something to see instead of the blur in the middle of auditorium.

In defense of SUV?s and pick up trucks, some people do actually use them with a purpose in mind. Not all people have them as a status symbol. For example my husband does on average 2000-3000 kilometers per week, just driving. Most of it in the rurals of Ontario. Without 4 wheel drive he would often become stuck, or worse. (Several times he came home safely because of the larger vehicle with 4 wheel drive). We also have to have the ability to carry a larger pay load, due to business and family. With three teens, going tenting requires much more then my smaller car can handle.
It is very short sighted to condemn all SUV owners to the dung heap, just because you personally do not like them.
I am all for finding alternative fuel sources, I also know that in my industry I am sure all heavy vehicles are looking for the same, ever thought about those big trucks bringing your groceries to the store and what they have to pay? As it stands now, larger vehicles are limited to what is available and it?s not much. Also hybrids are not cheap to obtain for all of us who don?t have a lot of disposable income and they are not many options yet.
There are many more things to consider before you judge others. Not everyone runs around the city streets of Toronto. Not everyone has two kids, some have more. Not everyone is only thinking about hauling groceries around. Certainly not everyone is you.

if what i've been told is correct, halal meat is meat that has been blessed by a muslim priest (please correct me if i'm wrong).

Greetings
It is not widely known, but many popular foods you may buy in the supermarket have been blessed by a Rabbi, and labeled as kosher. You will find a lot of it around at Passover time, when Jews are particularly kosher. (that is those Jews who would normally not care less any other time).
Products like Coke for example may have on their label Hebrew symbols which indicate that product has been made, and blessed in Jewish tradition, thus deemed kosher.
I am not sure, but I doubt my JW's actually look at the labels to make sure, or even know about this.

Memory Lane
by exjdub inmrs. exjdub and i were talking about the jwd board the other night and, after discussing many of the topics that are on the board, we started reminiscing.
pretty soon we started laughing until we had tears in our eyes remembering the "joy" of conventions in the old days.
mrs. exj remembers camping in scarborough, maine during the convention and waking up in the morning to damp sleeping bags from the moisture in the air, trying to run to the community showers before the session, feeling dirty all of the time because of the dust, sitting in the blazing sun at the racetrack, getting rained on, etc.

Fredericton New Brunswick. If you were lucky, you had a seat with a back on it, if you were not lucky, you sat all day on a bench! No air, the only bonus, it was very small.
I might take that over Skydome Toronto or Copps in Hamilton, where the masses of humanity made you dizzy, hot, and well, pissed off before you got there as you battle traffic and crying kids (before during and after the sessions). Yet, at least it had air conditioning such as it was.
