JV Like you I never had anything to say to anyone at the meetings. It's a sign that you just don't belong with these people. I used to dread going to meetings. Used to arrive late and leave early. Finally I saw no point in "meeting" with people I only wanted to avoid. Good luck!

Are you a people person or a loner?
by Strawberryfieldsforever ini've heard that there are people who thrive on being with people.
they gain energy from it.
then there are the loners who gain energy from being alone.

Mostly I am a loner. I do find, though, that I dread attending parties or events beforehand, but really enjoy them once I am there. I wonder whether the solitary tendencies of those who have contributed to this thread kept them from "bonding" with the JW world. I used to be annoyed no end at meetings when people I barely knew asked personal questions.

for more information, see publication 517, social security and other information for members of the clergy and religious workers.

Bethelites and, if I recall correctly, special pioneers (who receive a stipend) are members of "The Order of Full Time Servants." This was told me by a special pioneer some years ago and was in one of the yearbooks in the mid 90s.

i copied and pasted this from watchtower.org.
this just goes to show how they will stop at nothing to maintain the mind control over the poor blind people who still believe.... yoga.

What about the days of the week? They're all named after pagan gods or celestial bodies. They'll have to rename them all! Any suggestions?

Proof You're in a Cult - -----Self-Reference!
by metatron inwhile there are many definitions of what a cult is, one of the more disturbing features of a deceptive religion has.
got to be the habit of "proof" by self-reference.. go to any "public talk" and take note of how the speaker quotes from the watchtower to "prove" a point!
worsening world conditions, growing crime and the 'worse and worse' fallacy can all be "proved" as long as you keep.

Quotes from the WT or other publications used to annoy me no end, even when I was a loyal JW. Of course to criticise a talk for shallow research would not be UPBUILDING.

Fundamentalist Scientist
by Satanus infundamentalist:1. a usually religious movement or point of view characterized by a return to fundamental principles, by rigid adherence to those principles, and often by intolerance of other views and opposition to secularism.
or slightly generalised: .

Definitions are descriptions of the meanings of words, that is, of how people use and understand them. "Fundamentalist" is usually understood to refer to religious belief. I think the point is that the unwavering adherence to "fundamental" principles ascribed to religious "fundamentalists" is a type of adherence found in some active in other mental spheres, such as in the category of thought we call "science." That is, it is possible to espouse stated principle to the exclusion of contrary principle, theory or fact in any mental discipline, not only in religion. Thus "fundamentalist scientist" would describe a scientist who is not seeking scientific truth because he believes he has found that truth. His effort is directed toward promoting and defending his belief.

John and Revelation
by Valis inhmmm...this has been covered before i'm sure, but since we have our own prophets of the apocalypse, i thought we might have a rehash....when john wrote revelation was he hallucinating?
had he gotten into the stash of mountain laurel leaves or what?
it seems to me such a radical departure from the loving kindness espoused by the teachings of jesus, one wonders what he was thinking.
