i know there's no such word as "witnessy" but this can be a fun thread.

i was a witness for over forty years and for most of that time the "new world" "paradise" was not a place i ever wanted to live in.. there are many aspects of life in the 21st century that are great and i wouldn't want to give up.
tv, internet, blues/jazz clubs etc etc.. i may be shallow.
but there were other better reasons millions of people would have gone, wiped out by god: this never sat easy with me.. i told my elder father that i wouldn't want to live five minutes in god's new system, knowing that people i loved, had been killed by god because they didn't love him in the way he wanted.. just telling my father that has made me really wake up to how i really feel about my ex religion.. does a paradise earth as jw's depict appeal to you?
the thing I notice about the replies I receive here is the humour, there always seemed to be a great lack of that at JW meetings and I bet there would be too if there ever was a new system JW style.

frankie I agree a nice happy go lucky type of God would be ok ...............yeah but alas the god JW's have is far from that.
Brummie That carrot has been dangled for so long that it has shriveled for me.
Thinking about whether the former things would come to mind.........I was promised that if I left 'the truth' I would be in spiritual darkness, I was looking forward to it actually.
i have seen quite a few posts from many ex-jw women about how unhappy they were about male domination in congregation.
was it really that bad?
when i was still a jw, no one ever told me anything to that effect.
Yes I had to avoid at all costs independent thinking. I was a stepford wife.

Undercover... The God as portrayed by JW's.
Brummie ...what is it that appeals to you (curious)
The JW'S seem to use the new world as some kind of threat............if you dont do this then you wont live to see this............if you dont fail to turn in a report then you wont be in God's new world. Seemed like the whole time the rank and file are viewed like children who wont get to go to the fair if they dont eat their greens.

Just telling my father that has made me really wake up to how I really feel about my EX religion.
Does a paradise earth as JW's depict appeal to you?
hey
forgive me for not knowing the appropriate etiquette on these boards...i've been df'd for 8 years now but still searching for friends who really understand how long it takes to get the whole jw thing out of your skin.... am kinda hoping i can meet some mutual minds on here!
you sound like a friendly bunch .
A warm welcome to Hoofie
i've been thinking recently about how being an ex cult member affects the way i handle current relationships.. it appears to me that sometimes i am still influenced by the old way of thinking (jw way of thinking).
they teach that we should always be "humble".
they told us that we were imperfect.
thanks Sirona !
this strikes a chord with me today. food for thought yet again
i have heard much railing from the wts about the snares of "worldly philosophies".
according to the wts, much of what is evil in the world, including the teachings of "babylon the great" is rooted in philosophy.
this appears to be one of their hotbutton "buzzwords" to promote irrational fear about anything related to philosophy.
A few years back a pioneer was threatened with removal if she started an evening philosophy class.
Interesting that the WTS seems scared of any '...ology' studies.
was thinking about that the other day and wondered if many/any would show at my funeral
jolly thoughts
