i lived thru the 1975 fiasco.
many here did too.. on another board there was discussion about the way the congregations were before 1975. some thought that they were like small country churches in some ways.
we did our own work on repairs at the kingdom hall, like a family.
I was only 16 in 1975 and as a clever (cocky) teenager I always thought it would come in 1976!
The change in the generation doctrine affected me most as it started to confirm my suspicions that all was not right
I beleive the generation change was the single change that had the most effect in their history. 5 million people at that time had moulded their lives on that "end time" prophecy and then they moved the goalposts.
The sad thing is in 5 years time witness who are then in their 20s wont even remember this doctrine and the movement will just carry on

I agree. It is the worst experience in your life. I thin i did have a nervous breakdown. I suppose now he at least knows I had valid reasons and didnt just leave on a whim

Strangely he did not seem surprised.
The frightening thing is my dad was one of the first Witnesses in our City and there are now nearly a 1000 in the area yet I know he has massive problems with it.
However if he ever discovered for himself the truth about the truth he would just think he had wasted his entire life

On Monday I went out with him and something he said just set me off. In 15 minuted I told him about raymond Franz, Carl Olof johnson, 607BCE. The facts about 6000 years of mans history not being metnioned for 30 years etc.
I simply told him the truth about the truth. I did not plan to say it. I now feel guilty did I do the right thing? He questions many things himself but still thinks its the truth coz they are united, dont go to war etc.
Is it right to make an 85 year old doubt his faith that he instilled on his family?

my friend who stopped going to meetings just over a year ago and has also split up from his wife sent a letter to the society regarding the un as this was one of the first major points to upset him .he wrote the letter in the vein that this had caused him great trauma to his faith, and that he required an honest explanation.. he has received what he thinks is a standard reply with no mention of his own circumtances or trauma.
can any body give me a thread where there are any other replies from the society so i can see if it is a standard reply.

this is not true he hasnt been to meetings for a couple of years.

My fiend has rang the elder tonight and he has admitted that outside he had a witness in the car and his mobile phone was on and he heard all the conversation . How disgusting is that.
i have just learnt form an ex jw friend of mine that one of our aquaintances who hasnt been to meetings for about 2 years has been announced as voluntarily dissassociating himself.
this is totally untrue an elder on his own went round to enquire about a moral issue with him and no more was heard no judicial or anything.
our aquaintance has rang the elder tonight after finding out about the announcement without ever being told it was going to happen.

The elder has admitted that another brother was sat outside in the car and the elder had his mobile on during a conversation with the inactive brother and was listening to the whole conversation. In that conversation he categorically stated he did not want to dissaciate himself.

even though you have left the faith and after reading crisis if conscience etc and you konw it is not the truth and would never go back do you still misss some of your friends in there.
i was in it for 42 years from birth and it still upsets me that my lifelong fiends have vanished.
we are making new friends, but i actually liked a lot of these people.
Purza. Thats what I want my best friend to do but still to strong to hear or read any serious criticism even though she moans at everything in the 'truth'.
