Then companies in turn pay taxes on what the purchase.
As you say, maybe. Also, in the USA nothing is 100 percent legal which means that gov can get you one way or another for something, and taxes is something that they can nail anybody for no matter how much someone tries to be honest.

Spain was one of those countries that was more Catholic than the pope. And back in medieval times people had no choice but to go to mass and confession and be good Catholics –or else. Anyway, back in them days, in Spain, when someone went to confess their sins to a priest, it was face to face. The problem was that those Spanish priests were hot-blooded and lost their temper when they heard some of the sins people committed and the priest would sometimes hit or assault the person that was confessing his sins after hearing such a thing, or the sin was so bad that after the confession the sinner would get a beating from the priest -all was not lost, they worked it out.
And so they invented the confession booth with the partition so that in the event that the priest wanted to hit the penitent, the partition would prevent him from doing so –but there was a catch. On the sinner’s side of the confessional, the church installed a box with a slot to put money in. (In them days there were no hail marys or our father for penance, a sinner had to pay for his sins and that was what that box with the slot was about.
Anyway, getting back to the story, a certain man went to
the church to confess his sins and goes inside the penitent side of the
confession booth with the money box, to confess his sins to the Catholic priest,
and after the preliminary mumbo jumbo, he starts to confess to the priest that
he tried to have immoral sex with some woman and he tells the priest that was not able to – but the
priest interrupts and tells him: “Yes my son, but you intended to and it is the thought that
counts.” Hence, the priest fined the man a monetary sum that he had to insert
into the box. But the box was designed for small Spanish gold coins that could
fit through the small slot and this soon to be absolved sinner was of another
race and country and the coins he had were silver and much larger than the slot and after
several attempts to force the coin into the box, he was not able to. The priest
waiting for the payment to fall through to his side of the kiosk asks him: What
is the matter?” The man replied:” I am sorry, I tried, but it is the thought
that counts, and the man walked away without sin.

Most religions give dick squat back to the Governments which grant them such benefits.
There is no free lunch -they say. It can be observed when a particular religion is reaping fat, one of its members holds public office or sometimes a religion influences members to vote or take a political position or someone that wants to get elected slants towards a particular religious majority. Religion serves a political purpose and although it does not pay taxes their followers do and buy products and services.
Take for example the WT, they are non-political so they do not get any favors. What they have, they fought for. But they buy paper and services and other goods and employ companies and law firms -and that is big business. Take paper for example that they buy or bought a lot of in the past.. Those companies that sell to WT do pay a lot of taxes and employ people who the gov extract taxes from etc. So although WT does not pay taxes directly in a way they do so derivatively. But notwithstanding the taxes, WT is a big customer and those wt suppliers are enemies with WT enemies not because WT has secret deals with them but because WT is their bread and butter. WT doesn't print much as they used to but they are still a major customer to their suppliers Other religions too that do not pay taxes do benefit the government -until they are not needed or are more of a problem than an asset. Just my guess on this. I do not know.

You think sometimes that Corporations just using Religion as a scheme to hide under a tax-free bracket. It seems.
That is not the case with the WTS. The" Society" is a religion. -At least that is what the US gov determines to be the case.
In good faith, the US gov views religion and other entities claiming to be religions as NPO and that entitles them to tax exempt status -but a corp does not have to be a religion to be a NPO and benefit from tax exemption and neither does a religion have to be a corporation to get the same tax exemption. Funny though that even jesus was nailed for taxes so Caesar should have no problem with any religion when it is time to pay the bill.

Same people holding their breath for WT to donate money to the Borough of Brooklyn so that the Borough can donate money to jewish causes in borough park (and other religions too) so they can buy and build buildings and religious schools and get tax exempt status on the buildings and funds for the schools and millions and millions and millions each year for schools for the religious mentally challenged and religious charities, etc. will also want bulldozers for catholic churches (that are empty anyway except for some ethnic people that still go but don't donate much if anything at all to the church) so they can build affordable housing. WT gets greenbacks from the sheep not from Caesar. And these "Brooklyn partnership guys" (NPO) want to take the sheep's hard earned money donated to WT so the borough can give it to other religions and NPOs?!!!!!! Go take a flying leap!
But when the Holy place gets taxed, all religions will also get the ax. -WT is taking the money and running for the hills. Watchtower sees what is coming.

... the religious organization to donate $50 million to the borough as it sells off at great profit the remainder of its Brooklyn property and moves upstate.
“This is the last chance to do it,
I cannot stop laughing.
court denies summary judgement for laurel jehovah's witnesses congregation.
a motion for summary judgement is denied in a case against the laurel congregation of jehovah's witnesses and some individuals over child abuse reporting issues.a lawyer for the congregation maintained that elders were exempted from reporting requirements under a state law because of clergy privilege and confidentiality.the case resulted from allegations that elders did not report an unlawful sexual relationship between a woman and a 14-year-old boy, both of whom were members of the jehovah's witnesses congregation.. download the court opinion here.

The word you are looking for
The substance of this case is the guarantee of freedom of communication and speech without fear (of prosecution) between priest and penitent. That guarantee means immunity for the sinner when he confesses a crime to the church and immunity for the church for not reporting the crime. Anything less than a guarantee is not freedom.
I chose the term immunity to describe the laws that apply to church sinner communications and to highlight the words fear and freedom and guarantee and prosecution in church sinner communications. I can choose any term I want (same as Delaware Assembly chose the terms it did in 909) without you telling me what word I should be looking for.
The rest of your post is a bunch of assertive hogwash same as your other posts.

You are a very funny dude ( I do not mean it sarcastically ) I enjoy your posts. I took no offense at your post directed at me. But you are not thinking, chum.
Just try to take off your wt bigotry eyeglasses that you view the world with and look at this case just a little differently.
Any religious term such as clergy, penitence, priest, absolution, etc. that legislation chooses to use must fit into a generic equation that applies to all religions or the law is unconstitutional.
For example, although the JW do not use the term clergy or churches same as Christendom, they still benefit from laws that use the term clergy and church and confession and penance, etc. same as Jews and Moslems or any other religion does.
The JW have their own version or understating of how confession and Penance and Absolution should be applied, and to JW confidentiality does not mean privacy in a confession booth between 2 people, more is involved for them. My opinion is that it is unconstitutional if the JW cannot enjoy the immunity from reporting to the police laws solely because JW do not have a Catholic Church style confession privacy setting between 2 people only. I think that the immunity laws do apply to JW in their style of confession. The purpose of church immunity laws is not to establish that church confessions must be in a private setting between 2 people, but to guarantee the freedom of speech and communication to those seeking spiritual help (whatever that help should be and however the church handles the sinner religiously) from their church without fear of having to be turned over to the secular authorities by the church.
