  A question about the contemporary generation teaching following a conversation with a JW apologist

  i would like to ask the ex-jws on this site to put their ‘apologists hat’ back on for a moment, so that i can go through the overlapping generation teaching in an attempt to make sense of it.

  i apologise if these points have already been addressed on this site.a quick background for the reason for my request… having never confronted a jw apologist on the topic, i recently engaged with a jw regarding the official understanding of a ‘generation’ and unfortunately he didn’t have an answer to the points i was making.

  i was left a little confused as to what the official jw response would/should be.so i was hoping that my thoughts below might be considered from an apologist’s perspective.the point in question relates to this section of the watchtower article below from 2008, as well as the jw.org video explanation of the overlapping generation:---:w08 2/15[box on page 25] can we calculate the length of “this generation”?the word “generation” usually refers to people of various ages whose lives overlap during a particular time period or event.

  law makers in the us want to pass laws that apply the first amendment of the us constitution to social media forums such as tiktok and youtube that have banned poster for speech and content violations.. in the us, 1a usually applies unhindered to traditional public forums (such as sidewalks and parks) with restrictions only as to time place and manner..

  I want to add that it could be argued that in social media sites a person needs to apply to be allowed to post, and agree to abide by terms of service, so it cannot actually be classified as a platform; you don’t need a license for example for free speech on the sidewalk.The sidewalk therefore is a platform whereas social media sites are actually publishers in that sense. But also social media sites are open to the public to watch content and listen to public views and interact with the public . So it’s not like a newspaper publishing the views of the owners. The social media sites publish the views of the general public tos or not, that’s the purpose of the service they provide, public views on things, and what the US government is saying is that social media has to be fair, they can’t discriminate when people wish to speak freely about things.

  1914 is only written in the minds of Jehovah's Witnesses

  Given JW 7x interpretation is incorrect —as you see it. But based on 1914, (whether you or anybody believes in 1914 or not) the “generation” not passing away scripture applies to 1914. JW 7x interpretation makes a lot of sense..

  1914 is written in stone. The application of the Olivette to 1914 is written in stone. Therefore, the “this generation” scripture that applies to 1914 must be fulfilled, so that depends on the meaning of generation. It doesn’t matter that everyone alive in 1914 is dead.

  Part of the fight is the question are these outlets platforms or publishers

  That’s a very good point. The tension is that websites such as youtube are cyber places where the public goes to publish their content. It is not like a privately owned store where the public goes with the purpose to purchase and the property owner has authority restrict 1A on his property or a private meeting place such as church where the public is invited and 1A is also restricted, or a newspaper that publishes whatever content it likes. A newspaper is not open to the public although it could choose to publish any content submitted by someone that is not an employee. However, websites such as youtube is where members of the public go to publish views and content and that is why it might be legally classified as both a platform and a publisher. That’s just the nature of it. The website is liable for what it publishes but since it can also be viewed as a public place -that is to say a platform because members of the public go there with the purpose of disseminating speech, in the US, the law may require the site (although privately owned ) not to discriminate or deny service based on 1A standards. The principle is that since all members of the public can go to the site (it’s open to the public) with the purpose to publish their views, the owners of the site may not be legally allowed to discriminate some people because they don’t like them but need to have legal reasons not private ones.

  we've taken a decision similar to revelation 18:4 to get out of the watchtower and not share in its sins.. how many of you still believe that god will one day terminate the world's many systems by means of an armageddon?.

  Yes. Reasoning from the Bible. Armageddon will come from God one day.

  Based on the premise that God doesn’t exist and that the universe just exists on its own, the earth or humanity will come to an end someday caused by anything possible. Could be hit by an asteroid or something else can happen.

  Are you driven by vengeance or Payback?

  “there is nothing more ironic and curious than a trapper being caught in his own trap or a plot backfiring.

  ironic justice is the best revenge.” the inventor of the brazen bull, one if the most heinous torture devices in history was tricked to go inside of it and died of the torture he created.. probably one of the greatest movies ever made features revenge as its theme: once upon a time in the west.

  sadly in this movie the main character doesn’t rely on ironic justice happening by god or chance.

  Probably one of the greatest movies ever made features revenge as its theme: Once Upon a Time in the West. Sadly in this movie the main character doesn’t rely on ironic justice happening by God or chance. Driven by revenge he devotes his life seeking it until he gets it. He lives around his devotion. Everywhere else not in the west faces jail time if caught getting payback. —Unless you work for the government and you can get away with it by acting under the cloth of law.

  One of the themes of the Bible is vengeance and retribution and ironic justice and the peace it will bring to the mind and emotions. Life is not possible without first justice and revenge or punishment by God— is a conclusion after reading the Bible

  ” Future don’t matter to us. Nothing matters now, not the land, not the money, not the woman; I came here to see you. Cause I know that now you’ll tell me what you’re after. “Only at the point of dying.” “I know”

  —Only in the West. Will vengeance come in the form of ironic justice for those who wait?
