What do you think is the source of your consciousness? Can it be copied or transferred?

right now your consciousness, is it the physical part of the brain?

I think it's a mistake to confuse consciousness with identity. Identity is transient. It's always in a state of flux. And what makes me "me" isn't any single conscious state. Rather, it's the sum totality of my aspirations and experiences and how I relate to myself and my environment and my loved ones and my community.

It seems to me that self awareness and consciousness and experience and memory is unique and part of each identity. I think that identity is unchangeable, given, assigned, a constant, a fingerprint. Things are what they are. I do not think that identity has to experience self awareness or conciseness to exist.

There could be some way to have a person experience the illusion of someone else’s consciousness and self awareness and memory but I also think that the framework of reality cannot be changed and transferring or copying the substance that makes up a person's self awareness to someone to experience if it is only some physical substance does not transfer identity, it would be experiencing an unreality because it is the experience of some else not your own. But who knows???

Whether or not there is such a place in the brain or somewhere else that stores a person's identity?? If such information could be copy and pasted, different individuals might be able to experience the same identity and when they interacted with reality the experience should be shared (one example of what should happen, but this is a long topic to consider). Suppose it would not be possible to clone identity because it violated some law of physics sort of speak -same object occupying different spaces at the same time- or because it violated the nature of reality for example colors should not exist, in other words, the dynamics or the mechanism of the nature of reality cannot not be changed, (long topic) but it was possible to transfer the fingerprint of someone to something else, then what?

a lot of guesses... but we cannot put ourselves into someone else's shoes and experience it unless it happened to us personally and then we might be able to know what it feels like and believe that the illusion of the senses that we experience as reality is our identity experiencing it in something else. OR maybe it is something else beleiving. But even if we did believed it was , would it really be us or something else believing it was us?

What kind of person was Nathan H. Knorr?

we have several examples in the forum showing that president knorr was not a loving and caring person; one that impressed me was the one about the elderly bethelite that was put out on the streets until his death due to a disagreement with knorr.

i bring to your attention an incident that happened in the country of honduras back in the 50s, it has to do with immoral conduct by a branch overseer and his subsequent disfellowshiping.

i am not critical of the end result of his conduct but rather the salacious and detailed report of this matter putting in the open the details for the whole world to see.

It is an axiom that Marvin Shilmer is a brilliant person; in-spite, even 12 brilliant angry men just cannot see.

It is unfair to only target the failings of a man.

It is fair to say that Brother Knorr went out in service with the group with everybody else, in the rain, in the snow, in the heat, in the cold, and on foot -even after his cancer treatment. Bethel service comes first, but I cannot recall NHK missing meetings. NHK gave his assigned talks in his KH ministry school that he was enrolled in and served as elder on top of all of his other duties at Bethel and as president of the wt (until brain cancer just made it impossible) -even during his bout with brain cancer.

There was a dignified air about NHK that was proper because he was the president of the watchtower, yet NHK was an extremely humble man, I observed.

It seems to me that the reason why Brother Knorr refused to work with the group or with anyone on that day that you relate about in your post is because he saw that it was not proper for the brethren to give him so much special attention, and being the spiritual man that he was, and perhaps not to give fuel to some wekaness, he walked away rather than risk being tempted to enjoy the feeling of being glorified by the brothers. It is fair to say though, that NHK was human and had failings just as any other man.

Simon, I see your point. But the legislation that you are referring to was not drafted for the purpose of offering any protection to the WT or any other church, it was put in place to protect the freedom of speech of the sinner -not the church. It is a legal guarantee (to the sinner) of freedom of speech and communication without any fear of being turned over to the police by the church.

As for good and bad, Simon, my dad always told me that history is written by those that win the wars. Good and bad does not make any difference to JW movement until Wt and their God are defeated, and if they win, they get to write history. In the meantime, good and bad is only an opinion that is being fought by both sides.

DD either you are not reading or you can't read. The church refuses to go to jail because Caesar does not want her there. There is no efficacy in child abuse reporting laws with jail bars that provide too much of a protective gap between the sinner and the one hearing the confession, like the distance between words and the one trying to use his word processor -if you know what I mean.

dose anyone else remember this?
