JWs MUST Accept The Watchtower Teachings EVEN When They Are Wrong!
by minimus inisn't it unbelievable that a jehovah's witness must accept whatever the organization says or they can be disfellowshipped??
unless they tell you that their understanding has changed, you cannot believe anything unless they say it's ok. .
many years ago i questioned them about their ridiculous view that whenever the word "heart" was mentioned, it was a literal blood filled organ.

Sounds like a lot of misfits end up in Bethel
Actually, a lot of applications are rejected and most of the guys that are accepted are good people with a pure motive like Sparky, Morpheus, Cappy, NewBoy, CoCo and others here. But one has to deal with a lot of people with different personalities and mostly celibate young men with high tetesterone levels and some people get on your nerves after a while. That is one aspect. Then there is the work. That's another's aspect And then there is the indomitable Bethel system. Hence, people are human beings and they have a sense of fairness. And in a competitive environment there are shortcuts but there are no shortcuts in Bethel; only seniority and hard work, unless you happen to have a higher education, then you get a management position or they use your skills versus taking arms against a sea of Smythes and by opposing end them.
I never saw corruption or insidiousness or an immoral environment.
It was hard for housekeeper sisters too but I sincerely respect the bros that worked there. But also just as Sparky says, some of these guys were misfits and maybe that's how they managed to stay long, and got positions of power -and some people were just obnoxious; any sane person would put in their 30days. But it's the same in any environment, work, etc. except that in the WT environment you can't prevail if you get on the negative side of someone holding a powerful position. -And when they hold you back, it affects your life and happiness in the org. and it is human to get angry.

What I remember about Heller's book is that the only way to get out the army was if you were crazy and to be crazy you had to believe and to say that you were sane -that was the catch 22 because if you said you were not crazy, the army was willing to believe you. If you said you were crazy you were bluffing because crazy people don't admit it. -

Another thing about the bindery is that it was about production, producing books and you were taught to get into a production mode. That production mode stays with you for life; and you find yourself getting into that mode when you are working or doing different things.

know you could be a Jew and JW at the same time!
You shouldn't practice Judaism if you are a JW but chinese, black, Mexican, Jew, arabic are descriptions that can be used used to identify ethnicity. So, asking this brother what was his ethnicity, he did not tell me that he was black or Irish or Spanish. He said that he was Jewish but it was axiomatic that he was of JW religion.

Let's talk about Blood again....
by stuckinarut2 ini know we have all talked about this topic before, but for some new ones on the forum, or to refresh ourselves, i wanted to start this thread.. the society likes to go on about the sacredness of blood, and how it should not be transfused etc.. they liken it to a symbol of life itself.
something that should be respected and therefore not transfused.. but, what is more important: real life, or a symbol of life?.
an illustration came to mind.. if we give a bunch of flowers to a loved one as a symbol of our love for them, are those flowers more important than the love itself?

It ain't up to individual JWs to decide for themselves whether or not to accept a blood transfusion as described by WT. WT defines that JW do not accept BT. And that's that. If a JW accepts blood contrary to wt teachings he is commiting a sin and is going against wt doctrine.

On 3/5 they put the slower sewing machines that did free sheet. It was the first place they put generic new boys coming into the factory first time to work. The loud gatherers with the brothers wearing ear protection was just outside the sewing area and walking towards the elevators. Those sewing machines were indomitable. I knew one young Jewish brother that conquered the Smythe. He got a job change to work in dispatch. Weren't you missing breakfast all the time and getting your name called to get your allowance? - Just kidding.

New Boy, there were 2 types of sewing machines: one used for sewing Bibles (free sheet) and the other for the hard back books. I think John Adams was Bindery overseer at the time, and after you left Sydlik was the anointed brother they put in charge. I don't remember his title. You could not have said it better, those Smythe machines were torture devices and would have broken "Cool Hand Luke" himself and time stood still working on them: "break your backs" when fliping those signatures on the saddle or you could get a jam and break needles. And don't forget to -hit that glue bar! The end sheet gluer was engineered inhouse and took a couple of brothers to run it -if I recall. Don't forget card cutters. Did you work on 3/5 or on Building 2? After you left, I remember Smyth machines on 2/7 and bindery lines on 2/8. Long time ago. Hard to remember. I also remember Bibles and Aid Books being sewn on 3/5.
..But those lines on the 5th floor are as you describe; the monotony was hard to endure Just the thought of working there was sobering. -Spaced out but no chance of faking out. But the cream of all jobs in the bindery was bindery maintenance, fixing and servicing the bindery machines because it didn't involve production.

Sparky, I never knew that. Sad story. I don't remember anyone looking at Bill disdainfully. Brothers noded to him and he noded back.
Not everyone that wanted to get married and applied to bring their female in was accepted. A lot were rejected and they got angry when they had to leave if they chose to get married. I remember someone that applied, was rejected, and called off his engagement for about a year. He applied again and was accepted. But after NHK died, such case never happened again. You were not supposed to leave the sister waiting or break off the engagement. Also, I liked and respected NHK a lot. But I am human too and I don't like everybody. I find some people obnoxious and they get on my nerves but I put up.
People in power are unavoidably forced to make decision sometimes that negatively affects someone, it can't be helped. Albeit there is no excuse for not being compassionate.
Funny that Norris and Knorr have words in common. NHK also mostly wore the same green suit. I saw similarities in Bill's facial expressions and NHKs.
Lots of talks to make the service "your career" in that era. Back in the day, it was actually possible to have fun too. Everything changed in time and became strict.
